When Wen Ran came downstairs, Mo Xiuchen was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper. Seeing her, he instructed Aunt Zhang to serve breakfast.
Today's breakfast was slightly different from the past few days. As soon as Wen Ran entered the dining room, she noticed the change—her portion was based on the special meal plan her mother used to prepare for her every month during those particular days.
Her gaze swept over the man sitting beside her, and a warmth spread through her heart.
This was the first time, since their marriage over a week ago, that they sat together for breakfast—just the two of them. The table was quiet, almost serene.
Mo Xiuchen finished his meal first. After wiping his mouth with a napkin, he gave Wen Ran a brief instruction before heading out to start the car, telling her to come out once she was done eating.
When Wen Ran stepped outside, the luxurious Aston Martin was already waiting at the villa's entrance. Through the half-lowered car window, Mo Xiuchen's handsome side profile was visible. The morning sunlight cast a golden glow over his features, making him look even more captivating.
"Get in."
Leaning over from the driver's seat, he opened the passenger door for her, his voice gentle yet firm.
Wen Ran nodded, a faint smile playing on her lips. As she bent down to sit inside, she didn't need him to explain—she already knew. It was because of her period that he had switched roles today, taking the initiative to be the driver.
Throughout the drive, Mo Xiuchen focused on the road while Wen Ran sat quietly in the passenger seat. She occasionally looked out the window and occasionally glanced at him. Though they didn't talk, the atmosphere was surprisingly warm and peaceful.
"I'll pick you up for lunch," Mo Xiuchen said as they arrived at the factory.
Wen Ran smiled and nodded. Opening the car door, she stepped out and waved at him. "Drive safely."
Mo Xiuchen let out a soft "Mhm," watching as she walked into the pharmaceutical plant before starting the car and driving away.
As soon as Wen Ran entered her office, her secretary, Sister Li, followed behind her with a stack of documents, reporting the day's schedule. While waiting for Wen Ran to sign, she suddenly said, "Ranran, I saw A'Mu last night. He told me that Mo Xiuchen transferred a female employee from an MS Group hotel to work by his side."
Wen Ran looked up at Sister Li and replied calmly, "Yes, her name is Cheng Jia. I heard she once saved him when they were children. He should repay that kindness."
Sister Li frowned, clearly having heard something else from Qin Mu. She hesitated for a moment before cautiously reminding her, "Ranran, even though there are rumors that Mo Xiuchen has… issues in that area, he is still incredibly handsome and the heir to MS Group. There's no shortage of women who admire him. I've heard that Cheng Jia has strong feelings for him."
Wen Ran finished signing the document, closed the folder, and smiled. "Sister Li, if Mo Xiuchen were a flirtatious man, he wouldn't have gone all these years without a woman by his side. He transferred Cheng Jia simply out of gratitude."
Taking the signed documents, Sister Li still looked uneasy. "Ranran, you're naturally pure-hearted and don't understand much about relationships between men and women. Mo Xiuchen may not be a playboy, but Cheng Jia is his benefactor. His feelings for her carry a special gratitude. And since you two don't have a deep emotional foundation yet, you should still be cautious."
Wen Ran nodded. "I understand. Oh, and Sister Li, when you head out later, please call Zhou Mingfu to my office."
"Alright."
With that, Sister Li left with the signed documents.
As Wen Ran watched her disappear through the doorway, a contemplative look flashed across her clear, water-like eyes. She recalled yesterday's scene at Yi Pin Xuan, where Mo Xiuchen had deliberately put on an act for Cheng Jia. Shaking her head, she pushed aside certain thoughts from her mind.
