Welcome to Kyto.
There's an ancient king called the Hollow King. He controls everyone in Kyto. And some reason, It has no effect on me.
Who am I? No one important. Just some random ass street rat that doesn't have parents.
I was walking through the streets taking down my wanted posters.
Lira Crimson Wanted Dead or Alive
In the poster I had brown wavy straight till shoulders. Since when could they afford the posters to be colored? Neutral skin and barely visible freckles on my cheeks. My muscles on my arms were visible. They drew my eyes as if they're were a foxes. The color of my eyes in the poster was blue. They just can't get it right. My eyes are amber. In another wanted poster, my eyes were gray.
Why am I wanted? The Hollow King found out that I do not succumb to his command and wants me dead. He probably thinks that I would start a rebellion or something. The thing is, I'm way too lazy to even get up in the morning. Starting a rebellion? Pass. Someone else who doesn't follow his control can do so.
They say life's a story. If my life's a story, can I not be the main character who thinks life is sunshine and rainbows?
Kyto isn't what it used to be. It used to thrive. It used to be full of life and cheer. At least that's what the books in the library says. Right now, Kyto looks terrible. Ruins everywhere. People injured, everywhere.
I overheard a commotion. Someone trying to punish a child for bumping into them. I swear I try to be nice. I hate getting in trouble, but someone or another is testing me. I tie my hair up and wrap a cloth around the lower part of my face. Right now I probably look like an assassin.
Why am I trying to disguise myself? Because the reward for catching me is 100 gold. Even though I took down all of the posters, there's definitely a chance that someone saw them.
Let the child be. The Hollow King was trying to control me.
I got in the way of the child and the man.
"Sorry, this is my sister. Is causes a lot of trouble. It won't happen again."
The man looked skeptical. Well obviously if a stranger comes in the way with half her face covered, one would be.
"I don't believe you." The man crossed his arms.
"And I don't believe that chain you're wearing is made out of real gold." I shrugged. "Now, if you excuse us, we're going."
The man looked furious. As I turned he grabbed my hair, and the pony came undone. The cloth around my face became loose and fell.
Shit.
"I know you. You're that women in the wanted poster." the man grinned.
Creepy guy.
"I will use the reward money to buy a real gold chain!" He laughed hysterically. He needed to go to a mental asylum.
"So it was fake." I raised an eyebrow and smirked.
He gritted his teeth. I stuck out my tongue.
He was about to slap me, at the same time guards appeared.I don't know whether to be thankful or annoyed.
I ran, tying the cloth around my face.
"AFTER HER!" The guards yelled.
How the hell did they recognize me? They couldn't even get my eye color right. I was running on the streets. Why was it so busy?
Luckily I was fast and quick. Or probably the heavy metal armour is slowing them down.
Slow down. Let them catch you. It's for your own good. You'll be safer this way.
That damn voice was in my head. The Hollow King. Why do people worship him? Why do they surrender to his voice? Why do they see him as a God? Once he used to bring our people and kingdom to prosperity. Not anymore.
Not today old man. And shut up.
I almost ran into a carriage. I checked behind where the guards were. How are they running in that armour in this heat?
I needed another way to lose them. I turned and ran inside a dark alleyway.
"Where did she go?" One of the guards said right in front of the alleyway I was in.
If they entered here, I was doomed.
One was entering the alleyway. I was backed into a corner of the wall. I held my breath.
A hand grabbed me out of nowhere and pulled me inside the wall????
Their hand was over my mouth.
"I'm going to remove my hand. Don't scream." the hand was slowly removed my mouth. It was a women. I couldn't see her well. It was dark.
"Who the hell are you? Why am I pulled inside a wall? How am I pulled inside a wall?" Why should I trust her?
"You're Lira Crimson, are you not?"
"How do you know that?" Then again there were wanted posters.
She grabbed my hand and pulled me, taking me somewhere.
"Hey! Lady! Where are you taking me? Answer my damn questions." I don't know why I was walking with her. I could've just pulled away when I wanted.
There was light. An entire city. Lights and everything. People. Grass, fresh vegetables, water and children laughing. Everything Kyto didn't have. And it was inside a wall?
"Welcome to Uhar, the ancient city in Kyto." The women said.
I could see her properly. She had long blonde hair till her thighs. She was around 5'2. Short. Her skin was tanned and it shone in the sun's light. She looked young. Around her early 20s. Her eyes. She was blind.
"Follow me." She lead the way. I don't know how. Maybe she got used to the blindness?
The people here are happy. Unlike the people out there who give in to the Hollow Kings control.
"My name is Seraphine." The lady introduced herself.
"Lira."
"I know. I know a lot of things about you Lira. You're 19, an orphan since birth, a street rat. But you're also very smart. Both street and book."
Not creepy at all.
"I also know how you look like." She turned around and smiled at me.
How was that possible? "Yeah right. Don't even start describing me, because you probably heard someone describe me in the wanted poster." I crossed my arms.
"You have amber eyes. And you're 5'9. I don't think they told that in the posters."
Women how the fu-
"Who are you?"
"Seraphine. I just told you. We're taking to long by chit chatting."
She grabbed my arm and suddenly we shifted places. We were now indoors.
I felt like puking.
Seraphine handed me a bucket.
"It's an effect of teleporting."
HUH?
There's magic here? Other people besides the Hollow King can use it? What exactly was this place?
Seraphine lead me to a room. A lot of people were there gathering around a table that had to be at least 12 feet long.
My eyes met with this one dude at the end of the table. He was tall and muscular. He had a neutral skin tone like mine and piercing blue eyes. His hair was short, some of it covering a part of his left eye. He looked very pissed to see me.
Why was I here?
"Lira Crimson. Today you will join The Unchained." Seraphine announced.
"The Unchained? This isn't some type of cult, is it?" I scoffed.
"It's a rebellion. Against the Hollow King." The guy at the end of the table said.
"Yeah, no. I'm not doing that." I turned around to leave.
"Turn away, and you die by the hands of the guards outside."
"I'd rather do that."
"It is from the Oracle's prophecy that Lira Crimson is part of this rebellion." Seraphine stopped me in my tracks.
"Maybe the Oracle confused me with someone else." I crossed my arms.
In greek times, the Oracle was always right about predictions. If you tried to avoid them, they would somehow find a way to become true. It is inevitable to avoid.
"I'm the Oracle."
Well shit.
