Chapter 5 - Who Said I Want To Be The Good Guy?

Silas dashed forward, waving his hands to the side and scattering all of the blades into his side, dashing forward and using the opportunity to close in on his target— the masked man.

Just as he was moments away from grabbing the man, a thick block of concrete was formed between them. Silas smashed his fist through the concrete, but by then, he'd lost his target.

"I will make sure you can't steal anything," the man announced, pointing his finger to Ice, then turning back to Silas, "You don't have to listen to her. You have the power to do good!"

"What makes you think I want to do any good?" Silas scoffed, shaking the dust off both his arms then cracking his neck. He stepped forward, "What good had this world done for us?"

"So, you just want to do be the bad guy for the sake of being bad?" The masked man's aura changed as those words left his lips, and he sighed, clenching both fists, "then, I apologise."

He dashed forward, snapping his fingers. Two blocks of metal formed by Silas' sides, and in an instant slammed into each other. Silas grabbed them before he got pulverised in between.

Ice groaned, sweeping her hand to the side. Icicles shot out of the ground, shooting up into the air at the man. He snapped his fingers, after sighting them out of the corner of his eyes.

A massive shield formed by his side, shattering all the icicles on impact. As the pieces fell to the ground, Silas dashed out and the two block of metal slammed into one with a loud bang.

"Man, this guy is pretty strong." Silas praised, wondering what rank the masked man could be classed at. He narrowed his eyes, and exhaled, 'I wonder where the limit of his power is.'

"My Lord, are you worried for our safety?" Luke shouted at the top of his lungs, already an entire mile away from Silas. Waving his hand to reveal his position, "You can go wild, lord!"

"What does he mean by that?" The masked man asked, hunched over and drenched in his sweat. He turned to the side, only to see Ice charging at him with a ice spear in her hands.

He snapped his finger, and a wall of concrete formed between them. Ice slid past the wall, leaping into the air with the spear, then hurling it at the panting masked man, who sighed.

"You are already tired," Silas pointed out, seeing the masked man stumble back after he'd blocked the spear of ice with another concrete wall. He stepped forward, "Just surrender."

"If there is one thing I have as a hero, then it's dignity." The masked man heaved, then he threw his head back and burst into a round of maniacal laughter, "I will never surrender."

A massive axe swept across the ground in an arc, splitting thorough the earth in a fierce curve, scattering the earth about. Silas turned to face the axe as it flew towards his face.

He stepped back, allowing it to pass him by, then caught it at the handle. Dust blew past, and the axe grew still— vibrating in his grasp and unable to move an inch —as Silas smiled.

"I respect that, really," Silas turned the axe in the direction of the masked man, then with a cold gleam in his eyes, he released the axe on the man, watching it fly at a terrifying speed.

The axe vanished midair, leaving the masked man trembling in front of the split earth with Silas glaring right at him. He dropped to his knees, then he weakly collapsed to the ground.

"Oh, I thought it would have killed him." Silas said, turning to Ice who dropped down soon after the masked man, grasping at the ground and panting for air, "I understand it a little."

The higher your rank, the longer you'd be able to maintain your skills. Even though the guy had a strong super power, without the energy, he was unable to bring it to its full potential.

'So that's why she wants that item so bad. It must be able to enhance her power output in a way or two.' Silas marched forward, glaring at the masked man, "Somewhere safe my ass."

He lifted his leg, about to crush the head of the man under his feet — rather kill one hero than have a cult chasing him for the rest of his time here — but Luke's shout stopped him.

 "Don't kill him!"

Silas raised a brow, turning around to give Luke a confused stare. He was new to this area and didn't know all the rules and stuff, but he wondered why Luke shouted for him to stop.

Were they being monitored? Silas sighed, facepalming. How could he have been so careless in this world. Of course, they were being monitored— They were in a world of superpowers.

"Leave it, we're leaving." Silas said as he helped Ice to her feet, throwing her arm over his shoulder. She groaned weakly, grabbing her face as Silas turned to ask her, "Can you walk?"

Ice shook her head, and Silas nodded. He turned to Luke who slowly approached them with a bowed head, and scoffed, "Take the lead, we are getting of this place. Take us to the clan."

——

Arriving at Luke's "clan" took more than a couple of hours. Silas frowned, staring at the mess of buildings in his view, then gave Luke a questioning look, "Is this where you live?"

The buildings looked like something out of some post-apocalyptic fiction, nothing like the others he'd seen, and he was stunned. Luke sighed, "Well, what did you expect from this?"

"Without a superhuman to defend us, we're basically sitting at the bottom of this society," Luke continued, stepping past Silas, "The clan became the stool for other clans to shit on."

Ice raised her head, looking from left to right, "This place is being managed by some guys from the Persian Clan. Anyone is allowed to mess with any member of a clan they oversee."

Silas' face darkened hearing that. Suddenly a sharp scream pierced through the night sky, and their heads snapped to the side where a young girl was being dragged by two tall men.
