I made it to Charleston. The city seemed to change, but the people here looked no different. Everyone still had that greed in them, well at lease it seemed like it. It felt more vibrant with color, like life had healed after that incident…you know the one. What happened to Ryoth's body anyway? All I remember is people shipping its body into a large truck to a facility. Even then I remember Callith works for the government, I am sure he knows. I just hope people don't mess with things they don't understand, whether it's bringing Ryoth back to life or testing his body composition for research.
I looked at a small field near the town square. Why was that old church still not torn down? I mean, I wasn't complaining, but I must be some kind of monument to the people. If so, then why was there no maintenance to keep the place going? I walked through the door, and the memories died, just like I did. I felt my left eye, the day I lost it. The Callum took half my sight from me. Why did he think we had to fight? What made Callith change his mind? I bet it was the Earth, even though it was cruel. Humanity still has a chance to change, even if it seems like we will die in many ways: nuclear war, plague, world hunger, or even if some other being decides he has to destroy it all. But as I exist…that's not going to happen.
I head to where Callith is soon. I heard some information about him on the internet, even though I didn't know much about it. People say he a a hero, and so was his brother Leon. I didn't much care for attention. He lives in a house just a bit south of the city. I wasn't too far. I arrive at the door and knock.
Someone comes out. It was a woman, she looked around 20 or older. "Hello, can I help you?".
Did I enter the wrong house? "...Is Callith there? I hear he lives here".
Hase-. "He…isn't here right now? Who are you? You look sort of like him. Are you…Leon?".
I was recognized… that's the first. "Yes, I am Leon, I can to s-"
Hase-. "Get out. You left him alone for years. He thinks about his brother every day. He missed you".
She was right…I just left him. "I just want to see him…when he arrives".
Callith arrives in a car. "Leon? …What are you doing here? Where the hell have you been these past years!?".
As expected, he was indeed upset. "Uh… surprise.
Callith-. "Answer me, Leon. Where were you…all this time? I looked for weeks until I thought you died somehow. Explain to me why to broke the rules. You told the commander you would work for them, we would work for them to make things right in the world".
I made a mistake. How was I going to explain that a guardian of a void called to me? "I had to do something…After we kil-".
Callith-. "Not in front of her, we can't tell no one remember, we can't tell no one about what we are. And I don't want to hear, your bulls shit either".
???. "Calith, just listen, please. I had to-".
Callith-. "I said no, Leon…go away. I don't want you here, at least not now. You abandoned me. You are my brother Leon, we finally overcame our differences, and you blew it…you blew it".
Maybe he was right, I abandoned him. I am a terrible brother. "Ok, Callith. I'll go".
I walked away, heading into a place with a long table. It was quiet and almost empty. On the other side of the table was a guy in an apron holding a cup of beer. I sat down on the tall chair in front of it. It creaked and bent slightly. I guess I was too heavy for it. After all, I was what…270 pounds?
The guy walked up to me with a mug in his hand. "Hey, you gonna order somethin'?".
I wasn't a drinker, especially if I felt depressed. "Get away from me, I don't want to talk".
Bartender-. "Ok man, you don't have to bite about it. Everyone goes to a bar when they are depressed. Then they talk about what the problem is. We're like therapists-sort of".
I noticed a camera turning. The light was red, and the lenses looked like they zoomed in on me. It felt like I was being watched by the person on the other end.
Hacker-. "He feels like he's being watched by the person on the other side, doesn't he? We found him, Cameron. He's in a bar downtown".
Cameron-. "All right then, send over units. I want him alive. He needs to feel as much suffering as possible before he dies. He killed my wife, Agatha Lammy. He will pay with his brother's blood before he goes out with him".
A whole SWAT team was ordered to retrieve Leon rushed to where he was. They brought guns with bullets coated in Modified Specimine-42. Cameron knows they will break his skin.
As Leon walked out to head back out, he wanted to speak to Callith again. Maybe he thought he could apologize. Well, until a large SWAT truck arrived. They came out with guns surrounding him while holding special reinforced shields. "You are under arrest for the murder of Agatha Lammy".
Do they mean Dr. Lammy? That cursed lady who talked to me years ago when I was in prison. I didn't kill her, she crawled away. For all they could know, she might have bled out or died from the burning car fumes. "I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't kill her; she died herself".
They coked their guns and looked ready to fire. I don't think they will ask twice. "Get ready, fire. Copy".
I had to defend myself. So I revealed my armor and weapons after they came from under my skin. They fired and bullets shoot at my chest and face from all direction. I felt a sharp pain in my throat. I was shot, and the bullet broke through my skin. I pulled out both axes and swung all around me. The shield was sliced in half. They threw a few grenades. They did not affect me.
I ran to cover near an alley. I thought they would have trouble looking for me, at least for a while. I pulled the bullet out of my throat. I was agonizing. I hadn't felt physical pain since I got this ability. What was so special about the bullet that the grenade hadn't? I couldn't tell that a black substance at the end of it looked like my blood, but thinner and not as dark. From what I could tell. That stuff burned and let my wound bleed a dark, heavy vapor. When I bled, my blood rushed out into a toxic form. I destroyed organic material along with the bullet seemed to corrode quickly.
I don't know what they had against me. But I need to find a place to stay safe before they catch up with me again.
