Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"Y = mx + c represents the general equation of a straight line. You need it to-"

Yada yada yada.

My mind completely tuned out whatever the teacher was saying. I already know the topic from head to toe and more importantly...

I did not give a flying crap about it.

What my mind really wanted to pick up though was the nice Digim- oops Homumon, episode that had just come out. I had been saving up a bunch of episodes to binge all of them now.

Only one problem.

"Zzzzzzzzzz"

The stupid white haired girl slumped on the desk next to me.

Her snores were screwing with my enjoyment of the series.

Imagine if you just turned off the lights in your room, got a nice blanket with some snacks in hand, ready to watch Arcane...

Then some $&*#(&$ started drilling outside your home.

That's exactly how I felt.

Why the heck did the teacher have to place her next to me...

I just don't get how someone could come for their first day of school and drop dead asleep as soon as the teacher said "Open your textbooks."

Seriously, how does someone even pass out that fast?

Letting out a sigh, I snuck a glance at her.

Oh my days...

I'm getting out of here.

Any thoughts that she was some cool and strong jade beauty from a modern day xianxia were immediately deleted from my brain.

When I was sure that the teacher wasn't looking, and that she wouldn't look back for quite some time(copying notes on the whiteboard that we had to copy as well. The classic), I got down and started making my way to the exit.

Duck walk style.

Just as I thought that I was about to make it out of class scot-free, a strong grip clasped on my shoulder.

"Hey... what are you doing?"

I stiffened.

Slowly... painstakingly slowly... I turned my head around.

I was met with Ms. Kiana Kaslana's half awake, messy-haired face.

My focus wasn't on that though.

No, my attention was locked onto the hand resting on my shoulder.

It... shouldn't be that hand right?

The one that she was just lying on a moment ago?

Please no...

Did I feel something? Was it wet? I really can't tell. My brain seemed to be unable to piece the pieces together correctly...

"Are you... skipping class?" Kiana's sleepy eyes blinked in curiosity, completely unaware of the torment she was subjecting me through.

With a scrunched up face, I gave her a slow painful nod, praying that she'd take her hand away.

It would be too hard to remove it myself without causing a ruckus. Thus, I was subjected to this torment.

Kiana's sleepy face immediately turned into one of joy as she dropped down to my level, deciding that she wanted to duck walk with me. "Alright! I'm coming along! I can't stand this place anymore. It's sooo... boorring..."

With that, the hand was gone. Kiana didn't seem to care about what expression I had on my face as she duck walked out even faster than I did.

I trailed slowly behind her as my eyes were still locked onto that spot on my shoulder.

Sigh...

Wheel... Give me an adaptation...

I need to get some drool off my shoulder.

------------------------------------------------

"Hahahaha! I'm free from that hell hole!" An exuberant laugh filled the air as Kiana landed outside the school compound.

I landed after her already having cleaned up the mess on my shoulder. "If you didn't want to come to school then why are you here anyways? Weren't you doing that pizza gig or something?"

"Eh he... about that..." Kiana's expression turned sheepish. "Well, after we fought that day... I... may or may not have gotten the cops called on me when I appeared in a blood-stained uniform..."

?

???

"And then... the cops may have then forced me to go to school after they saw my student pass?"

What in the...

"You... you didn't even bother changing your uniform before doing more deliveries?"

Kiana immediately turned defensive. "Hey, every minute I wasted was more money down the drain! I couldn't damage my 5-star rating any more than that you know!"

"You definitely forgot didn't you."

"..."

This girl...

I... I just can't believe it.

Is this the real her?

She's more of like... a single-celled organism than a human...

A paramecium.

Kiana, still looking off to the side, suddenly spoke.

"Hey."

"Huh?"

She shifted slightly, like she was debating something internally.

"Can you... um come with me for a bit? I need to ask you something,"

I raised an eyebrow. "Are you... hitting on me?"

"What do you mean by that?!!" she scowled. "You'd have a higher chance winning the lottery than that happening."

"Mm hmm" I hummed, unconvinced.

"Arrgghh!!" Kiana threw her hands up in frustration. For a moment, I actually thought that she might tackle me.

No regrets though. Messing with her was pretty funny.

With a laugh, I finally gave in. "Alright, alright. I'll follow you. Let's go to a nice coffee shop close by."

Kiana's cheeks were puffed up as she stared at me. It was clear she was still somewhat miffed, but she was waiting for me to show the way.

Still smirking, I gestured for her to follow.

However, as I turned, my smirk faded a little.

Something was off.

When I think about it, there were many coincidences that ended with us here right now.

She "coincidentally" forgot to clean up her uniform before delivering pizza?

Then she, "coincidentally" went to the same school and class as I did?

And "coincidentally" was placed next to me as well?

There was just no way right?

In that case, could she have been placed here by her organisation or family to spy on me or something? After all, I did display superhuman physical abilities, marginal as it was.

If she was acting here... then she was a damn great at it. It's hard to blend such an... interesting personality together.

With a newfound perspective on things, my view of Kiana changed.

I might have to be more careful with how I use my strength now.

At this moment, it might be prudent to just leave her sight. Staying with her for too long might be dangerous.

However...

I had some things to test out as well.

The groan of metal only audible to me entered my ears.

This wasn't a part of the original plan. But that's ok.

Plans change.

As humans, we just need to... adapt.

Hehe, pun intended.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"So um...." An embarrassed expression appeared on Kiana's face. She seemed to be unsure of how to continue.

"Gojo. Just call me Gojo."

Yes. I was given the surname Gojo by the orphanage. And y'know what's the kicker?

My given name was Satoru too.

I honestly didn't know this until like I was 1 or 2 years old. Reasoning was that I couldn't understand a spec of Japanese back then, making me interpret everything they said as gibberish.

So yeah, full chicken meal with drinks(body and name).

Though... it seemed like my fries (Limitless) got partially replaced with cheese wedges(adaptation)?

I knew people were supposed to call me Satoru, but... I liked being called Gojo. It just felt... right y'know?

Kiana didn't let me muse on my name for too long though as she decided to open her mouth.

"So... are we like... related somehow?"

...

I may have overestimated her intelligence.
