Chapter 9 - Slimes are hateful

Fell hummed as she walked on her way towards the forest, she decided to take her time to enjoy the view and the route she was taking was told to be devoid of any wolf monsters.

She is steadily adjusting to her new lifestyle and has already gotten a hang of being a girl, the downside is her hunger returning every once in a while. "Should I buy a snack while I am adventuring."

That would be a good idea since her body required a lot of food at the moment and also a lot of care since she found her body being more... delicate.

After walking for approximately thirty minutes she has finally arrived at her location, in a small field covered with blue goo that were sticking onto trees a single egg was at the middle protected by a legion of blue 20 slimes.

Fell crouched behind a cluster of bushes, her eyes scanning the field carefully. The slimes moved sluggishly, their gelatinous bodies quivering as they oozed around the egg. The blue goo sticking to the trees gave off a faint, eerie glow, and she could see some of the slime trails leading further into the forest.

[Mana Sense]

Fell's orange eyes glowed, the slimes body was made from water that was molded by mana from their cores, she could probably attack them all with Card Shuffle but she was not sure her mana would be enough.

And she was afraid to get close too, she has seen...things in her old world and knows what would happen if a cute and innocent girl like her were to get close to fight an entourage of slimes.

Fell shuddered at the thought, her cheeks flushing with a mix of embarrassment and disgust. She wasn't about to risk that fate, no matter how harmless the slimes looked.

"Absolutely not," she muttered, tightening her grip on her dagger. She'd stick to ranged attacks and avoid any direct contact. Better safe than... slimed.

[Mana Drain]

A sigil appeared under three of the slimes, they could not move when the spell was activated and could only stay still as the mana in their cores slowly drained. Soon their cores cracked and they immediately crumbled.

From one of the slimes a blue orb came out and went straight into Fell's chest. Fell blinked and then placed her hand there. "Is this how the Slime Body skill consumes other slimes?."

Fell didn't really get how it worked but she darted towards a nearby tree when she saw a few of the slimes coming her way. She pursed her lips and drew a card, it was card shuffle and she shot it at the two slimes that reached her bush, hitting them straight in their cores.

This time two orbs of light entered her chest.

Fell felt it would not take long to clear this nest now and since she is testing her skills she might as well use this as training for tomorrow.

[Card Shuffle]

[Mana Sense]

"Okay, Card Combination" The two orange cards in her hands fused into a single card with a faint glow, forming a new skill card with a swirling pattern etched into it.

[Card Fusion: Mana Shuffling Blades]

Fell smirked, satisfied with the result. The fused card crackled with energy, and she could feel the enhanced power coursing through it. Holding it up, she whispered, "Let's see how this works."

With a flick of her wrist, the card shattered into a flurry of spinning blades made of pure mana, each blade leaving a faint, shimmering trail as they shot forward. The blades arced through the air, weaving between the remaining slimes with precise accuracy. One by one, the gelatinous monsters burst apart, their mana cores shattered by the relentless assault.

Several more glowing orbs flowed into Fell's chest, and she couldn't help but feel a slight rush from the power they carried. Her mana reserves felt fuller, and there was a faint tingling sensation spreading through her limbs.

A few straggling slimes seemed to hesitate, as if processing the sudden loss of their companions. Fell took advantage of their confusion and swiftly drew another card.

[Card Combination-Mana Drain Field]

A glowing sigil expanded beneath the remaining slimes, forming a shimmering blue circle that pulsed with mana. Tiny runic patterns etched themselves along the perimeter as the slimes quivered, unable to move as their mana cores were sapped. One by one, they crumbled to mush, their essence flowing toward Fell and merging into her chest.

She let out a breath, feeling her mana reserves fill to the brim. A hint of satisfaction played on her lips as she glanced at the last few orbs floating into her body.

"That should be all of them," she whispered, cautiously stepping into the clearing. The blue goo covering the ground seemed to be losing its glow, slowly drying up and flaking away.

Just as she thought it was over, the ground beneath the egg began to tremble. Fell's eyes widened as the dried goo suddenly condensed, forming a massive slime twice the size of the previous slimes she fought. This one was translucent and gleamed like polished crystal, with hints of blue and silver swirling inside.

"Huh, this looks bad." Fell blankly looked at the slime, maybe she should have hid in the tree's more, yeah that was a good idea but now she was in trouble.

She awkwardly waved her hand at the slime. "So...how was your day."

The Crystal Slime didn't respond, of course. Instead, it let out a deep, resonant gurgle that sent vibrations through the ground. Fell took a cautious step back, forcing a nervous smile.

"Yeah... I didn't think so," she muttered.

The massive slime suddenly lurched forward, its gelatinous body stretching like a tidal wave aimed straight at her. Fell yelped and dove to the side, narrowly avoiding getting engulfed. She hit the ground in a roll and immediately drew a card.

[Card Combination:Mana drain+ Passive Shield]

A translucent barrier flickered to life around Fell, shimmering with blue and silver hues. The Crystal Slime crashed into it, but the shield held firm, absorbing the impact and siphoning mana from the creature into the protective barrier.

Fell wiped sweat from her brow. "Okay... that's buying me some time," she muttered.

The Crystal Slime reared back, its semi-transparent body pulsing with energy as it prepared another attack. Fell took a quick breath and focused, drawing two more cards from her deck.

[Card Shuffle]

Fell glanced at the two cards in her hands and smirked. "Alright... Let's try something again."

[Card Combination: Mana Drain + Card Shuffle]

The cards fused into one, creating a vibrant, shimmering card with a chaotic swirl of energy at its center.

[Card Fusion: Mana Disruption Shuffle]

Fell tossed the card into the air, and it shattered into dozens of mana-infused blades that spiraled around the Crystal Slime. Each blade hummed with a draining force, siphoning mana from the slime as they sliced through its body. The Crystal Slime quivered violently, its core flickering as its energy was pulled away and dispersed.

The massive creature screeched, its form distorting and collapsing as cracks spread across its crystal-clear surface. Despite the damage, it wasn't finished yet. The Crystal Slime contracted, pulling itself together and forming several crystalline spikes along its surface, preparing to launch them.

Fell blinked and then quickly hid behind a tree

as the spikes launched in rapid succession, piercing through the air with a sharp, crystalline sound. The tree trunk splintered, and shards of crystal embedded themselves into the bark. Fell winced, realizing how close that had been.

"Okay... definitely not getting hit by that," she muttered, peeking out to assess the slime's next move.

The Crystal Slime was visibly weakened, its core flickering more erratically than before. Fell knew she couldn't let up the pressure now. Taking a deep breath, she pulled another card from her deck.

[Card Combination-Mana Drain Field]

The ground beneath the Crystal Slime began to glow with swirling runes and sigils, forming an intricate circle that pulsed with chaotic energy. The slime quivered, its core flickering even more violently as its mana reserves were sapped.

Fell tightened her grip on her dagger, watching the massive creature struggle to maintain its shape. The draining field was working, but the Crystal Slime was resilient, its core refusing to shatter despite the overwhelming pressure.

"Come on... break already," she whispered, sweat dripping down her brow.

With a sudden burst of energy, the Crystal Slime surged forward, breaking free from the field and slamming into the ground where Fell had been standing moments earlier. She barely managed to leap out of the way, landing in a crouch a few feet back.

Fell's eyes twitched, the slime was resilient and it was intimidating too, she pulled out another skill card to do another combination.

[Card Combination:Mana sense+Mana Drain]

[Card Fusion: Mana Pulse Disruption]

A surge of chaotic mana crackled around the new card, glowing with a turbulent light. Fell could feel the raw energy vibrating through her fingertips. With a determined glare, she raised the card high and snapped it in half.

The shattered fragments disintegrated into a pulsating wave of energy that spread outward, converging directly onto the Crystal Slime. The creature trembled as the pulse hit, its form distorting as the mana within it was forcefully scrambled and drained. The spikes on its surface flickered, losing their sharpness and collapsing back into its body.

"Almost there," Fell whispered, trying to steady her breathing. The Crystal Slime's core was now dim, struggling to maintain its form.

The slime let out a distorted, almost mournful gurgle, its massive body collapsing into a more compact, amorphous shape. Seizing the opportunity, Fell drew one final card.
