Chapter 8 - Questing for slimes.

Fell didn't really expect to go on a raid two days after she arrived at this world but it was a dangerous opportunity to get stronger and maybe try to find out her exact origins.

She sighed and looked at her pouch, currently she had 2 gold coins,19 silver coins and 69 bronze coins, it's not a lot but for a bronze rank adventurer and a level 1 character it was just enough.

She needed to buy supplies, potions and maybe a dagger to protect herself as a second defense.

Currently she has already seen all of her card types.

There was one debuff card Mana drain and one buff card called passive shield she hasn't used the buff card yet and she only used two attack cards.

Card shuffle was good but it is mana dependent and even though she feels no exhaustion when she uses it nor feel any mana being deducted from her she felt she shouldn't lean in towards it.

Then there was Mana sense which was a skill card and then there was her new slime body card which was passive and thankfully she didn't need to draw for.

The second attack card was called Trap card

It was unique compared to her other offensive abilities—rather than directly attacking, it created a glowing, ethereal card that embedded itself into the ground or any surface. If an enemy triggered it by stepping within range, it would activate and unleash a burst of razor-sharp card shards.

Fell hadn't had the chance to test it properly, but the idea of setting traps appealed to her. It gave her the chance to control the battlefield and catch enemies off guard. The drawback was that it took a few seconds to arm and could only remain active for about a minute before dissipating.

As she organized her thoughts and made sure her cards were securely tucked into her Deck, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of anxiety. So far, most of her abilities seemed to lean toward utility and strategy rather than raw power. If things went wrong in the dungeon, she would have to be quick on her feet and think creatively.

She was now in front of a shop that had potions and weapons. She opened the door and went towards the counter where she saw a woman with an antenna and and moth like wings. A moth-Kin?, it wasn't surprising Vel'Draeth had a lot of strange races despite it being an old game in her old life.

The moth-kin woman glanced up from organizing a shelf behind the counter, her large, luminescent eyes catching the light like polished gems. She offered a polite, fluttery smile. "Welcome to Silken Remedies and Arms. Looking for something specific, dear?"

Fell hesitated for a moment before responding. "Uh, yeah. I need some basic potions and a dagger. Something light and easy to handle."

The shopkeeper nodded, her wings twitching softly as she moved behind the counter. "For potions, we've got basic healing, stamina, and a few mana recovery vials. As for daggers..." She bent down and pulled out a small wooden case, unlocking it with a delicate touch. Inside were a variety of daggers, each with its own unique craftsmanship.

"This one's iron—durable, but a bit heavy for some. This one's steel, balanced and sharp. And this one here is mithril—light as a feather but pricey."

Fell picked up the steel dagger, testing its weight. It was surprisingly comfortable in her grip. "How much for this one?"

"Three silver coins," the moth-kin replied, her wings flickering in rhythm with her words. "And the potions—one silver for each basic healing and stamina, and two silver for mana recovery."

Fell considered her pouch. If she bought the dagger and a few potions, it would cost around seven silver coins. Not too bad, but she needed to be cautious with her spending. "I'll take the steel dagger and two healing potions."

The woman nodded and wrapped the dagger in a simple leather sheath, then packed the potions in a padded cloth pouch. "That'll be five silver coins, then."

Fell counted out the coins and handed them over. The woman gave her a gentle smile, antennae bobbing slightly. "Going somewhere dangerous, I take it?"

"Yeah," Fell replied, trying not to sound too anxious. "A raid. Just want to be prepared."

The moth-kin gave her a knowing look. "Stay safe out there. Remember—sometimes it's better to run than to fight. You can always find another day to be brave."

Fell nodded, giving a small smile in return. "Thanks."

Fell walked out of the store and placed her items into the bag of holding. Soon she was out on her way to the adventurers guild to pick up a quest.

Unknown to Fell someone watched all her moves with mild curiousity.

The Midnight demon of Plaedes stood up on the tallest peak of her tower and glanced at the stars above, her midnight blue eyes glowed with a cold embrace.

Honestly, the midnight demon does not have a name, it was just a mere personality of the girl, a demon beyond the stars.

She sat the down at the tower and slowly swinged her legs, she was worried about Fell she could always take over her body whenever but she would do that only if she was in danger and she would ask.

If she took control of her body it might cause permanent side effects to her body and soul but the soul of an otherworldly being is strong but this otherworldly beings soul is being overwritten every second into something more feminine and.. slightly demonic.

And it would mean more of her kind being unsealed and she has already felt the seal placed on the Crimson rust or the Red Mist being lifted a little, though it was not concerning to her as it was on the same level with her and she could suppress her anytime but fighting in the soul of another being especially their Vessel isn't something they would want.

She sighed, maybe she should sleep for a while instead of staying here, she glanced at the deck strapped on her hip, it was where her powers were contained in simple looking cards.

It was a core part of Fell and every demon sealed within her, some spells require huge amounts of mana but to someone who has the mana pool of six ancient demons, it wasn't a hassle to use. She pouted. "That's really unfair, Fell is slowly being infuse by our Mana, I hope her personality doesn't change that much"

She didn't like the idea of Fell becoming something unrecognizable. After all, it wasn't just Fell's soul that was changing—their own essence was blending into her, merging bit by bit. It wasn't inherently bad, but it felt like erasing parts of Fell's humanity.

And what would happen when the other demons started leaking through the seals? Red Mist was already stirring, and there were four more to worry about. Each of them had a distinct nature, and not all of them were as passive as her. If one of the more chaotic ones awakened... it would be a problem.

The Midnight Demon glanced back at the stars. They glimmered like distant lanterns, cold and indifferent. She found some comfort in that, knowing that no matter what changed, the stars remained the same—unreachable and eternal.

"Maybe I should train her... teach her to handle at least a portion of the power without losing herself," she murmured. "But would she even trust me?"

She had spent countless centuries as a sealed entity, watching as the Vessel before Fell tried to wield the deck and ultimately failed—consumed by the demons sealed within. Fell was different, though. The girl's soul was surprisingly resilient, despite being young and inexperienced.

The Midnight Demon closed her eyes and let herself drift into a light sleep, deciding to watch over Fell from the dreamscape for now.

Meanwhile, at the Adventurers' Guild, Fell was busy poring over the quest board. The place was lively, with adventurers coming and going, sharing stories of their recent conquests and failures. The board was packed with parchments, most of which were too high-ranked for her current level.

A few other Bronze-ranked adventurers were gathered around the lower-tier quests, debating which one to take. One caught her eye—a request to clear out a slime nest, it offered 12 silver coins and five merits.

"Looks doable," Fell muttered, reaching out to take the quest notice.

She went towards Lynn wo smiled at her. "You look much more cute today, you should visit me sometime so I can give you a new hairstyle."

Fell hesitated, brushing a hand over her pigtails. "Maybe... I'll think about it," she replied with a small, uncertain smile.

Lynn grinned brightly, her hands on her hips. "I'm telling you, you'd look adorable with a braid or maybe a short bob! Something a bit more adventurous to match that spirit of yours."

Fell couldn't help but chuckle softly. "I'll keep it in mind. Maybe after the raid."

Lynn's expression shifted to one of mild concern. "So you are joining the raid, I can't stop you from going but I advice you too watch while the higher level adventurers fight, you might learn a thing or two."

"Mmm~, Ok Lynn" She handed the quest letter and Lynn immediately stamped it.

She sighed. "This particular nest has a slime egg, you just need to destroy it so the slimes won't spawn anymore."

Fell nodded her head. "Ok Lynn see you later, if you see Asts tell him I said hi to him and his cute Black horned wolf."

As she left, somewhere above the city a man with purple hair played with a single card in his hand. "You know, if she goes on this raid, there might be a chance one of the demons will be unsealed and would posses her for a short moment when she is in a death situation."

The man's eyes twitched, he used his finger to pick his ears. "Damn, you know, the princess might hate you once she finds out you made me do this."

The man continued with his action and then sighed. "She might be a daddy's girl but she has a lot off rebellious energy so she might get upset and not even talk to you for months once the day she returns has been scheduled and if she found out I drugged her and put her in that forest so she won't have to suffer three days of walking to Silick without food and water."

The man smirked as he heard the reply. "Eh whatever, I'll continue to monitor her, Tell the mistress her daughter is making friends and she genuinely seems happy"

The man let out a low chuckle, twirling the card between his fingers before slipping it back into his deck holster. "Honestly, your plan is full of holes. But hey, it's not my problem if the kid ends up unsealing one of those demons. If she survives, she'll be stronger for it. If not... well, that's fate for you."

He stood up from his perch on the rooftop and stretched lazily, his long coat fluttering in the wind. A faint hum escaped his lips as he glanced down at the bustling town below.

"She's not bad, though," he mused to himself. "Gutsy for a level one. Maybe she's got more of her mother's blood than I thought."

With a snap of his fingers, a faint purple mist enveloped him, and he vanished from sight, leaving nothing behind but a few drifting violet petals.
