Chapter 2 - Unique Skill

Mitch physically reeled back at the sheer absurdity of that statement. He shook his head, refusing to accept that this was the reason his life had to end.

"Fuck that, I don't want to become a creator. I want my life back. I was just thinking of finding someone to settle down with! I just wanted to live a quiet life after making sure no one important to me would leave ever again!"

"Khad Mitch, the world you knew was nothing but a simulation. Think back, to any memory you might still have. How many people had names?"

"You will notice that in general, only in the later years did people actually introduce themselves. That's the simulation slowly starting to give you the final piece necessary for creating new living beings—an identity."

Mitch became stunned, shocked by this revelation. He soon noticed that the voice was right. No matter how far back he went, whether it be to the orphanage he grew up in, or the school he attended.

The only people that had names were the headmaster responsible for raising him, the researchers he worked with to find the cure for cancer, and some celebrities. Any other instance of someone introducing themselves was filled with white noise and gaps in his memory.

"Bu- but still. That could be your doing! You could be manipulating my memories to make me forget everyone's names! Why should I trust you? For all I know, I'm here because of you! SEND ME BACK!"

Head tilted backwards, he shouted the last few words towards the white sky as if asking it for answers, instead of the voice.

"Sorry, but I myself have only existed for a few minutes. Everything I am telling you is based on the information I had when I became conscious. Regardless, you are now in this situation and you will have to create a world, whether you like it or not."

"But that still doesn't make any sense. Why do I have to create new worlds? If I'm a God or Khad or whatever, what's stopping me from living forever while doing nothing?"

"Theoretically you could do that. However, Khads constantly consume something called Mynt. Think of it as the currency of the Khads. Know that there are several ways to generate Mynt, but the main ones all revolve around a Khad's followers."

The situation kept devolving into a more and more convoluted explanation, making Mitch feel dizzy just trying to organize everything in his mind.

Feelings of helplessness about his current predicament mixed with his grief of knowing that everything he had ever known was nothing more than an elaborate screenplay.

They fueling his rage and unwillingness to accept his circumstances, eventually bursting like a funeral pyre doused in gasoline.

"Then, why should I even care anymore? My entire life was a lie! I spent 37 YEARS in that world, making friends, playing games, doing research, and now you're telling me that NOTHING mattered?"

His lungs started to hurt from all the screaming, but he ignored that sensation; he needed answers. But more importantly, he needed to vent.

"Does it mean that the results would be the same, no matter what? I would wake up to 'REALITY' to fulfill some bullshit obligation of creating a new world with new species? Is there ANY reason for me to not just kill myself right here, right now?"

"Although the world as you knew it was a simulation, it did achieve its purpose of molding you into a real individual. I know from our connection that you had goals you wanted to achieve in there. The KAT comes with tools to help Khads adjust to reality."

"And how, pray tell, would you be able to help me live my life after taking everything away from me?" Mitch was pacing back and forth, trying to walk off some of the stress he was feeling from his conversation with the KAT.

"Again, I am not to blame for your issues. As for how I can help you fulfill your dreams, I have been created in a way that makes it easier for you to familiarize yourself with all the functions available. Cheer up, there is a lot to live for. Let's find the answers to life together!"

The brief clarity gained by that absurd explanation was soon followed by more confusion, and even more fury.

At this point Mitch was livid, barely able to keep it together. His hands were clenched hard and the previously charming face had become a ghastly scowl, tears and snot covering his cheeks and chin.

"That still doesn't explain why I should stay alive, why I should keep living and do my IMPOSED duty as a Khad!"

"Because as a Khad, you can achieve your goal of creating the genetically perfect being."
