"You're a stupid fool, and you still want to go home?"
"What are you going home for? To embarrass your brother?"
"I'll tell you, now is a critical period for your brother to compete for the position of the head of the Wellington family in the capital. We can't let others know that he has a foolish younger brother."
"If you dare to tell anyone about your relationship with the Wellington family in the capital city and your brother, and it affects your brother's future and reputation, your dad and I will break your legs!"
"You're an embarrassment, don't contact us in the future!"
...
As Halloween approached, Charles Wellington who had planned to go home for a reunion, clenched his hand unconsciously when he saw these lines in the family letter.
His delicate face was filled with a touch of sadness.
It is estimated that no one would believe that these words in the letter came from his own mother's mouth.
"How come, still not letting you go home?" An old man with a white beard frowned as he looked at his apprentice in front of the old house in the countryside.
"Home? It's a very strange thing to me."
Truly it's sounds strange, because it was about almost twenty years since he left home.
Even if it's blood relatives, after twenty years of not seeing each other, it shouldn't be this worse, should it?
Charles chuckled, and then threw the letter into the trash can.
It is said that a letter from home is worth a thousand pieces of gold, but for Charles it was not even worth a pile of shit.
"Why don't you go home and see? It's also good to let them know that you are no longer the same weakling as you were twenty years ago." The old man persuaded.
Charles shook his head
"Why bother? They don't even let me acknowledge that I am a member of the Wellington family, for fear of embarrassing my elder brother and affecting his future."
"In their eyes, it was always only my brother, and never me, the embarrassing and worthless shameful son" Charles said recalling his childhood memories. His brother was showered with love and had always accompanied their parents to various occasions, meeting all sorts of important people. Meanwhile, he was locked up like a dog in a dark room, not allowed to see anyone. All because he was a low-functioning child, or rather... a fool.
"Never mind, old man, from now on I'll take your Wallace Wellington name," Charles said with a sigh.
The old man burst out laughing,
"What's the point? I also have the same surname."
"Perfect, I'll take your surname. From now on, I'll be a member of the Wellington family in Brownfield Village."
"Suit yourself" the old man replied, too lazy to bother with his apprentice's nonsense.
"You've learned everything you need to learn from me after all these years. It's time for you to leave the village and see the world. Since you don't plan on going home, there are some things you can do for me. Just give me a minute." The old man said returning back into the house.
Nog too long after the old man left, the sound of a car could be heard outside the small courtyard.
Then, a group of people in military uniforms walked in, led by a woman. Her features were delicate, and there was a strong sense of heroism between her brows. She was indeed a high ranking military officer. She was actually a female general.
"Are you Charles Wellington?" Her cold gaze fell directly on Charles.
"Who are you?" Charles frowned, clearly displeased.
"I am Melissa Quinton, the eldest daughter of the Quinton family in the capital. I am also your brother's betrothed. I mean, Maxwell Wellington. But from now, I am your girlfriend. From now on, you will follow me day and night and serve me. Don't thank me, I'm not doing this for you" Melissa said.
Her tone was condescending, as if bestowing a favor.
Chales's eye twitched.
His brother's fiancée was coming to be his girlfriend?
Wow! This was a lot of information to take in.
"My engagement with your brother was arranged long ago. But that bastard brother of yours, despite being engaged, still plays around with other women, thinking that I'm easy to bully. If your brother can find women, then I can find men. And now I even found that idiot brother of his to be my boyfriend, to piss off that bastard!" Melissa Quinton was completely open and direct.
When she mentioned Maxwell Wellington's name, she even gritted her teeth in anger!
But calling him, Charles Wellington an idiot was something he couldn't take at all.
"Sorry, but you'll have to find someone else. I'm not interested." Charles said calmly, his facial expression unreasonable.
Melissa Quinton was slightly taken aback and frowned.
"Are you saying that you're rejecting me?"
As a wealthy heiress and a military hero, she had taken the initiative to become someone's girlfriend, only to be rejected?
It seemed that Maxwell's little brother was indeed a fool.
"Charles Wellington, don't you want to get revenge on your brother? As far as I know, you were born just two years after your brother. But your brother enjoys wealth and prestige, and stands at the pinnacle of power and influence, while you, at the age of four, couldn't walk, and at the age of five, couldn't talk. You were treated like a mentally handicapped person since childhood and were kept like a dog, not allowed to see anyone. Later, your parents were afraid that you would tarnish the family's reputation and hinder your brother's bright future, so they sent you to be raised by others. For twenty years, you lived in a remote and impoverished area, and were even forbidden from returning home. Now your brother even claims to be the only son of the family, with no younger brother."
"Born from the same mother, only a few minutes apart, but living vastly different lives."
"Chu Lin, aren't you jealous? Don't you want to get revenge on your brother. Now is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! So don't dwaddle and jump in. As long as you become my boyfriend, it's like stealing your brother's fiancée, which will definitely make your brother furious. At least you get some benefits from it"
Melissa Quinton coaxed like she was talking to a fool.
Charles looked up at Melissa. In his eyes, there was only calmness.
"Firstly, I don't like you, so I won't date you. Secondly, I don't like being used as a tool for revenge. Thirdly, Maxwell, and even the entire Wellington family in Washington DC, are strangers to me. Since they are strangers, why would I be jealous? Like I said before, I can't help you with your so called love, so please leave." Charles spoke politely and respectfully.
These words were not something a fool could say.
Melissa Quinton was stunned in place.
"You...you're not a fool?"
"Twenty years have passed, and no one stays in the same place, right?" Charles Wellington chuckled and turned to leave.
But Melissa Quinton was not willing to give up.
She vowed to win over Charles Wellington. She wanted to take revenge on her fiancee, Maxwell Wellington, and vent her anger.
As for Charles Wellington, he was just an insignificant abandoned son of the Wellington family. Melissa didn't care about his dignity or preferences.
What she cared about was his brother, Maxwell Wellington.
"Charles Wellington, have you thought it through? This is your only chance!"
"Miss Melissa is the daughter of a wealthy family and a female General in the military. How many people dream of being her boyfriend?"
Melissa's subordinates called out to Charles Wellington.
"Even though you're not an idiot, you're still just a poor country bumpkin with no money or house. If you reject me, not only will you never get married, but you probably won't even have a girlfriend. You can just wait to be a bachelor for the rest of your life!"
As the stubborn man refused to budge, Melissa angrily spoke up.
Bam!
At that moment, the old man came out of the house and threw a huge pile of letters in front of Charles Wellington.
"You small brat, I have sixteen marriage proposals here, all good girls that your good have master selected for you back in the days. You can take the marriage proposals and go explore. If you like any of them, you can get married. Return the rest of the proposals and don't delay these girls from finding other good men."
The old man picked his nose and said leisurely.
Melissa Quinton, standing not too far from him, was dumbfounded.
"What...what?"
"Sixteen marriage proposals? Is this some kind of joke or something?" Melissa couldn't believe it.
How could a poor country bumpkin like Charles Wellington be so sought after?
"Hmm? "Who is this girl? She's quite pretty. Does she want to be my disciple's wife too? But you'll have to wait in line, there are eighteen others in front of you," the old man said kinda studying Melissa Quinton.
Melissa's eye twitched, and she couldn't even say a word.
