Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: You still have a chance to change your mind.

"Aunt Linda, I've finished mopping the floor. Is there anything else I can do? Let me help." Charles, who had just finished cleaning the kitchen floor, asked Mrs Logan.

"Charles, you should take a break. I will just go quickly prepare dinner. Let me handle the kitchen." smiled and said.

"Aunt Linda, you don't have to be polite to me. I came down from my village to repay your kindness. You and Uncle James can ask me for anything you need, whether it's at home or at work. I will willingly do it"

"No Charles, for now just go rest, I can handle the cooking. Besides you're our guest and shouldn't be doing such tedious work" replied Mrs Logan.

"If you keep being polite to me, I'll leave and not stay here anymore." Charles said.

"Hahaha, okay do as you pls" Mrs Logan laughed uncontrollably as she continued her cooking with Charles assisting her.

After a brief interaction, she liked her future son-in-law more and more.

...

Soon, it was dinner time.

However, Yvonne had already fallen asleep, so they didn't call her.

At the dinner table, only Charles and Logan couple were present.

"Charles, I haven't asked you yet. What do your parents do? Do you have any siblings?" James Logan asked Charles Wellington, curious about Charles's background.

"My parents..." Charles was silent for a moment as long memories from the Wellington family came through his mind and said calmly after some time,

"My parents, They passed away a long time ago, and I don't have any siblings. Am the only child"

James and his wife were surprised at this revelation.

"We're sorry, Charles. We didn't mean to..." James said sympathizing with him.

"It's okay. It's all in the past." Charles smiled faintly and changed the subject.

"By the way, Uncle James, I just told Aunt Linda that if you need anything from me, just ask. For example, if the company has any difficult positions that no one is willing to take, as long as I am capable, I am willing to do it for free. I just want to help Uncle Logan. Besides, I don't have much to do usually," Charles said, sincerely offering to help.

However, when James Logan heard this, he misunderstood Chu Lin's intention. He thought Chu Lin was indirectly asking for a job. He felt that Charles was too greedy, not only did he want to marry his daughter, but he also wanted a job.

James didn't say anything, but he felt unhappy.

However, Linda Logan smiled and said,

"Charles, don't worry. Not only did you save Yvonne, but we are also family now. Your uncle will definitely arrange a good position for you, and you can't work for free. We can't let you work for nothing. James darling, don't you think so?" Linda Logan asked her husband.

James Logan nodded and said with a smile,

"Yes, we can't let Charles work for free. As my future son-in-law, he should have a high salary. At least 700,000 Dollar per year."

"Wow that's wonderful!" Mrs Logan said, obviously happy with her husband's last statement.

"Okay, Charles come to the company tomorrow. I will arrange a good position for you. Yvonne will help you" James Logan said warmly, eager to actually end the topic.

Charles Wellington at the other hand wanted to decline the offer, but Linda Logan persuaded him to accept the offer.

In the end, Charles had no choice but to accept it. He thought he could leave the money to the Logan family when he left. He came to repay the favor, not to make money.

....

After dinner, Charles went back to his room to rest.

Meanwhile, in the middle of the night, Yvonne Logan woke up, and her mother heated up her food for her.

While her daughter was eating her meal she told her about the issue about Charles working in their family company.

Yvonne wasn't pleased and she decided to confront her dad after her meal.

"What? Dad, are you crazy? Why did you let that wild boy into our company? And give him an annual salary of 700,000 dollars? I'm a CEO with a PhD and overseas education, and my annual salary is only around 500,000 dollar. Does he deserve it, that useless wild boy from the countryside?" Yvonne was furious with her dad after hearing this news from her mother.

"You, lower your voice!" James Logan scolded his daughter.

"Like I told you earlier, this is a temporary solution."

"But 700,000 is not worth it..." Yvonne was a businesswoman and so this didn't go well with her.

"Silly daughter, 700,000 is only on the surface. When he gets to the company, we can deduct this and that from him. In the end, how much he gets is up to us." James Logan smirked.

Yvonne calmed down a little bit after hearing this, but she still felt uncomfortable.

Letting a wild boy from the countryside into the company was something that bothered her seriously.

"Okay, quickly go back to your room and sleep. There's an important board meeting in the company tomorrow, and you have to attend. Can you handle it?" James Logan asked with concern.

Yvonne nodded, "Yes, Dad, I'm much better now."

After this, both father and daughter retired to their various rooms to rest.

The next day, James Logan received a phone call and hurriedly went to the company without eating.

"Yvonne, your dad wants you to drive to the company after finishing your meal and arrive before nine. It's already half past eight, so watch your time and quickly prepare"

"Okay mum, heard you"

"Let's I forget Charles, since you're starting today, go to the company with Yvonne. When you get there, Yvonne will arrange your specific position."

At the dining table, Mrs Linda instructed Yvonne and Charles.

Upon hearing that she had to go the company with Charles, Yvonne frowned but didn't say anything.

"No trouble at all," Charles expressed his gratitude.

And so a few minutes later, a white BMW 530 series was driven out of the garage by Yvonne.

"Be careful on the road!" Linda Logan reminded them at the doorstep.

Charles Wellington sitting in the passengers seat, waved his hand and then drove off to the company with Yvonne.

"Nice car. This car must be worth tens of thousands, right?"

Looking at the luxurious interior and leather seats in the car, Charles Wellington couldn't help but sigh. The best car he had ever ridden in before was a pickup truck in the village.

Yvonne Logan didn't even bother to talk to Charles Wellington. She thought to herself that he was indeed a country bumpkin. He probably thought that even buying a plane would only cost a little over ten thousand.

After leaving the villa area, Yvonne suddenly stopped at a corner, and coldly commanded Charles

"Get out of the car!"

"Are we here? It's so close?" Charles was surprised.

They had only been driving for less than three minutes, and they had already arrived at the company.

Yvonne was so angry that she gritted her teeth.

"I'm asking you, do you really not understand or are you pretending not to understand? Don't you see that I really don't want to be seen with you? Also, regarding our marriage, I don't care how my parents plan it, but for me, there are only four words: absolutely not possible! We are not from the same world!" Yvonne said angrily.

"Take care of yourself and don't indulge in unrealistic fantasies," she added.

"Also, I remind you that the company starts work at nine o'clock sharp. If you're even a minute late, you'll be fined ten thousand dollars."

Zrommmm!

After kicking Charles Wellington out of the car, Yvonne Logan stepped on the gas pedal and the engine roared as she quickly drove away, leaving Charles Wellington alone in the wind.

"She looks innocent and lovely on the outside, but I didn't expect her to be such a spicy pepper," Charles shook his head and chuckled.

However, on the contrary he was not angry. He knew that Yvonne Logan didn't like him, and he didn't care. After all, he still had fifteen more engagement contracts, and the next one would be better. As for the Logan family, he wouldn't stay long. After the debts were paid off, he would leave. By then, they would be far apart and would never meet again.

But, putting aside everything else, Charles really admired Yvonne's straightforwardness and bold personality. At least she was much better than those hypocritical set of people who put on a show in public but acted differently behind closed doors.

Screech!!!!

Shortly after Charles Wellington was thrown to the side of the road, a customized Rolls-Royce phantom stopped in front of him. The car window opened, revealing a woman's side face full of heroic spirit.

"I told you, no one except this general will ever look at you," she said. "Now, if you follow me, there's still time!"

It was obviously Melissa Quinton who was dressed in military uniform, and her stunning face was tinged with coldness and dominance. Obviously, she had been secretly keeping an eye on Charles Wellington since they arrived in Orange county. As she spoke, the luxurious car door had already opened for Charles Wellington.

It seemed that as long as Charles Wellington sat on that seat, he would have a complete turnaround in life, with wealth, power, and beautiful women at his fingertips.

To her surprise , Charles swiftly entered the car. His decisiveness left Melissa stunned for a few seconds.

"You...you agreed?" she asked.

Charles didn't answer, but instead turned to the driver and said

"We don't have time. Please go to this location immediately."

The driver ignored him, and it wasn't until Melissa spoke up that the driver respectfully complied.

"Yes, General" he said before quickly driving away.

"This car is terrible. The seat is so hard. You can't even spend twenty thousand dollars to replace it?" Charles commented, despite the spacious interior.

The driver was so angry that he almost passed out.

Twenty thousand dollars? You can't even buy a single tire with that.

But he couldn't say anything, as he was just a subordinate under his superior, General Melissa.

To prove the luxury and speed of the car, the driver stepped on the gas pedal, and immediately the car's engine roar was like a wild beast's growl, making the car swept through the entire block like a steel flood, even causing countless pedestrians to tremble in fear.

At this time, Yvonne Logan was still on her way to the company. Although she had gotten rid of Charles, she didn't feel relieved. She felt that she had been too harsh with her words, and that she might have hurt the self-esteem of the country bumpkin who had saved her.

"I'm sorry, I'm just being nice to you. Let's cut to the chase and avoid any misunderstandings" murmured Yvonne to herself.

She truly felt that she and Charles were not a good match. After all, these days marriage was about being well-matched in terms of background and status. It was like how a horse needed the right saddle. Yvonne was like a luxury car worth five or six hundred thousand, while Charles was probably only worth a three or five thousand worth pick-up truck.

It wasn't about discrimination, it was just the difference in their social status and lifestyle.

Just like how a swan belonged in the sky and a toad belonged in a well, they were from different worlds.

Suddenly, there was a loud roar behind her. Yvonne Logan looked in the rearview mirror and her pretty face trembled.

"Is that... a Rolls-Royce? It looks like a customized one?"

She immediately slowed down and moved to the side of the road. The Rolls Royce phantom zoomed past her. After it was gone Yvonne breathed a sigh of relief. It was better to stay away from such a multi-million dollar luxury car. If she accidentally scratched it, she would be in debt for the rest of her life.

"Ah.....I wonder who was in the car, what kind of important person was that?"

Watching the Rolls-Royce disappear into the distance, Yvonne's eyes were full of longing and envy. She felt that she would probably never have the chance to sit in such a luxury car in her lifetime.

"Well it's better to be contented with what you have" she said as she floored the pedal of her BMW, zooming straight to her company.
