"We're here." The driver said as he pulled the car in front of the Logan group.
"This is it?"
Charles said checked the address of Logan Group, making sure he was in the right place.
However, Melissa Quinton was not aware of Charles's intentions. Looking out of the window, she saw that the car had stopped in front of a café, which was a little bit closer to the Logan group.
Melissa immediately thought of something.
"If you want to have coffee with me, you can. But you only have five minutes."
"After five minutes, I have other plans" she added as her cold gaze fell on Charles.
Although she had never been in a relationship before, she knew that couples in the initial stages of getting to know each other would go for coffee or watch movies to understand each other better.
Although she didn't like Charles and was only dating him to piss off his elder brother, if it was acting, she had to be as real as possible. Otherwise, how would that jerk of a brother believe it?
Charles on the other hand didn't answer Melissa. Instead, he took out two crumpled five dollar bills from his bag and said
"I don't have pretty much, based on that am just arriving the city, but I hope you can manage this. You can keep the change. Here's ten dollars for your trouble. I would only pay three dollars for this distance in my village."
After paying the fare, Charles quickly rushed out of the car and into the office building ahead, leaving behind Melissa, who was sitting there in her car with a blank expression.
Melissa looked at Charles's back in the distance, then looked at the ten dollars notes in her hand. Her beautiful eyebrows and eyes began to tremble with anger.
It was only now that she realized that Charles Wellington had not gotten into the car because he had given in to her, nor was it to have coffee to get to know each other better, but rather he had simply treated her and her subordinates as fellow passengers inside a taxi.
"Bastard!" Melissa was so angry that she was trembling.
If it wasn't for the fact that he was Maxwell Wellington's brother, and if he wasn't still useful to her, she would have already had one of he subordinates break Charles's legs.
"General, who is this countryside bumpkin?"
"How dare he insult us like this!"
"Please give the order, General, and let us teach this wild boy a lesson!"
Her subordinates including the driver was angry.
The Rolls-Royce, worth millions, was treated like a taxi.
And their beloved General was only given ten dollars?
"Forget it, he's just a poor boy from the countryside. What's the point of arguing with him? Let's go back home"
"Immediately call the mayor of Orange county city and tell him to wait for me at the villa in fifteen minutes. I have something to ask him." Melissa said giving swift instructions to her underlings.
Vroommmmm!
The sound of the engine roared again, echoing through the streets of the city.
Meanwhile Yvonne Logan slowed down and pulled over again, giving way to the luxury car in front of her.
She didn't expect to see this Rolls Royce twice in such a short time.
And, judging from the direction the car was coming from, it seemed to be coming from the office building where her company was located.
"It must be someone coming to work. Or probably someone important visiting someone though I don't know which company it is, but it seems to have a big shot hiding in it." Yvonne thought aloud to herself.
There were many companies around the office building where the Logan Group was located, and Yvonne couldn't be sure.
A few minutes later, Yvonne arrived at the company.
After parking her car, she waited for the elevator calmly.
It was already 9:10.
She had rushed all the way here, but was still ten minutes late.
She estimated that Charles would be at least twenty minutes late, which meant a deduction of at least one thousand dollars.
Thinking of this, Yvonne's mouth immediately curved into a smug smile.
Soon, the elevator door opened and Yvonne walked into the company.
"Good morning, General Manager Yvonne"
"Good morning, Miss Yvonne "
In the corridor, the company staff greeted Yvonne Logan one after another.
Yvonne nodded in response, her high heels clacking on the floor as she instructed her secretary to call the HR director, Gwen Ryder, to her office.
"Yvonne, I was just looking for you."
Soon, Gwen Ryder came to the CEO's office.
She and Yvonne had been good friends for many years, and when there was no one else around, Gwen would call Yvonne by her name.
"Gwen, we'll talk about your matter later. In a moment, an annoying person will come to complete the onboarding process. Help me check what time he arrives. If he's even a minute late, deduct one thousand dollars from his salary. I estimate that he will be at least twenty minutes late." Yvonne said smugly.
But Gwen looked puzzled.
"Yvonne, are you talking about him?"
Behind Gwen Ryder, Charles Wellington, who was smiling, followed closely.
"You...you...? When did you arrive?"
Seeing Charles, Yvonne was so shocked that she stood up straight from her office chair.
"Mr Charles, he arrived fifteen minutes ago" Gwen Ryder whispered.
"How is that possible? Did he fly here?"
Yvonne Logan just couldn't believe it.
"Miss Yvonne, if I'm one minute early, I should be rewarded with one thousand dollars right?" Charles said smiling at the stunned Yvonne Logan.
Now it was Yvonne's turn to be embarrassed.
She had intended to give Charles Wellington a hard time, but now she had made herself look bad.
"Being on time is an employee's duty and doesn't deserve a reward. You can leave now. I'll talk to Director Gwen about your job placement and let you know later."
Yvonne didn't want to talk to Charles anymore and quickly sent him away with a few words.
"Yvonne, what's going on? That country looking bumpkin said you asked him to come to the company and offered him a salary of seven hundred thousand dollars a year"
With no one else in the office, Gwen Ryder immediately started gossiping.
Yvonne Logan didn't hide anything from her best friend and told her everything about Charles Wellington.
"Are you saying that your grandfather promised you in marriage to that country bumpkin ten years ago? and now he's your fiancee?"
"Hahaha..."
Gwen couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"Gwen, why are you laughing? I'm really troubled. My dad said he'll drive him away when I'm better. But I'm afraid he won't give up and will continue to ruin my reputation..." Yvonne Logan said as she was obviously very distressed.
"I'm so sorry, Yvonne. I just find it too unbelievable" Gwen Ryder struggled to hold back her laughter.
There was no way around it. On a regular day, Yvonne Logan was in charge of the corporation, dignified and proud like a swan.
But now she had become the fiancée of a dirty and poor looking country bumpkin, and the stark contrast was just too amusing.
"If even you think so, I'm afraid I won't be able to keep my position as CEO if the employees find out. They'll laugh me to death" Yvonne grew more and more annoyed.
"Yvonne, don't worry. I'll teach him a lesson and make sure he doesn't dare to speak out of turn. And as for his position, leave it to me. As your best friend, I have to give him a good lesson and let him know that our Yvonne is not to be trifled with, especially not by a dirty and dignified poor country bumpkin like him. Who knows, maybe we won't even need Uncle James to intervene. The bumpkin might not be able to handle it and back out on his own." Gwen Ryder said confidently.
Yvonne Logan was touched. "Gwen, you're truly my best sister."
.....
A few minutes later, Gwen Ryder walked out of the office.
"Follow me to complete the onboarding process."
Gwen had a stern expression as she coldly ordered Charles Wellington.
After completing the onboarding process, Chu Lin got his first job as the deputy captain of the security department.
In layman's terms, he was the captain of the company's security team, responsible for guarding the premises.
"I've already informed your departmental head. Just go report to him directly. However, let me remind you of one thing, put yourself in the right place. Like a toad, only fit to stay at the bottom of the well. Don't do things beyond your position. And don't covet what you don't deserve."
Gwen's words were meaningful, and after she finished speaking, she left.
Charles Wellington said nothing, instead he shrugged his head and walked towards the direction of the security department.
Meanwhile back in the office, Gwen Ryder immediately called the Minister of the Security Department, Wallace Thompson
"He's gone."
"Okay, director Gwen, rest assured, wait for my good news." Laughter came through the phone.
......
The Security Department of Logan Group.
It was also the space allocated to the security team, and they had their own activity room. It was quite spacious, with various sports and fitness facilities.
When Charles Wellington entered, there were five or six people sitting inside, dressed in the security uniform and looking very stylish.
"Hello, my name is Charles Wellington."
Charles greeted them first.
No one responded to him. Instead, everyone looked at a tall and fat man.
He was the minister here, Wallace Thompson.
"Brother Wallace, he's here." A man with dyed yellow hair whispered.
Wallace Thompson nodded his head in return.
Then he stood up and walked over, followed by several brothers.
"Are you the newcomer? I am Wallace Thompson, the person in charge here, also known as the captain. The others are all your co-workers here. You came the latest, so your rank is the lowest. In the future, when you see us, you have to call us 'brother' do you understand?" Wallace said condescendingly.
Charles Wellington nodded with a smile.
"Good. There's one more thing, though. Over here, we have a rule. Whenever a new person comes, they have to undergo a joint assessment by several of our security personnels." Wallace continued.
"The assessment involves standing still and letting each of us punch you once. If you don't fall down, you pass the assessment. But if you fail, we'll continue tomorrow and keep going until you pass. Do you understand?" Wallace Thompson asked again.
Charles Wellington just continued nodding his head.
Seeing that he kept nodding without saying anything, Wallace Thompson couldn't help but shake his head and mutter to himself,
"What a coward."
After laughing, Wallace announced the start of the assessment. "Leonard, you go first."
"Sure thing, captain." Leonard rubbed his fists together, rolled up his sleeves, and was about to punch Chu Lin in the face.
"Hey... You don't have much time to live."
Charles suddenly shook his head and said this out of nowhere.
Leonard was taken aback. "What the hell did you just say about me, you punk?"
Charles smiled and said.
"Brother, have you been having trouble sleeping lately? Can't sleep through the night, and even when you do fall asleep, you often wake up from nightmares? And do you often break out in cold sweat, lose a lot of hair, and feel like your body isn't as good as it used to be?"
Leonard was shocked. "Are you... spying on me?"
