Chapter 5 - Chapter Five

Chapter Five

Aurora's POV

Immediately, I was ready to jump down the bridge. I felt someone walking in my direction, but I didn't think they were onlookers.

I jumped and felt someone's hand hold me back. I stared at the river, which was a few meters away from me, and I could see an image standing ahead of the bridge.

Without wasting much time, I began dragging the person down with me, but all of a sudden, I felt my hands being lifted, and I closed my eyes tightly, hoping I would land deep into the river, but nothing was happening.

"You look terrible; you should open your eyes," I heard someone whisper to my ears, and I would be happy if it were the mermaid, but when the person hit my shoulder, something came upon me immediately, which made me open my eyes.

I looked around only for me to realize I was back to the surface.

"Why did you save me?" I asked, staring at him angrily.

He didn't answer my question, but just dragged me towards the river bank where the river was very visible.

"You should jump into the river like this instead of jumping through the bridge," the strange guy said and let go of my hand.

I was given the best option and I was just there staring at the river as it flowed freely. I took three steps forward and then I suddenly stopped in my tracks.

Before I could turn back, he already held a bottle of whiskey in his hands standing a few meters away from me.

"What's holding you back?" He asked, staring at me.

I didn't respond as I walked towards him, snatched the bottle of whiskey, and started gulping it non-stop.

He sat on the sand and I sat just a few meters away from him.

What surprised me was that he never attempted to stop me while I kept on gulping till I gulped down half of the bottle.

I dropped the bottle of whiskey at his front before looking at him.

"Do you mind telling me why you saved me? You should have just allowed me to jump off the bridge without holding back?" I asked, staring at the strange guy.

"You should finish up the rest of the whiskey first," the guy said.

"Nah, I'm done," I replied, dropping the bottle of whiskey in front of him.

"Why don't you tell me what brought you here? Are you really going to jump off the bridge?" The guy asked.

"I don't tell my personal problems to strange people," I replied.

"Then, you should go back to the river and jump inside it," the guy said.

I stared at him for a while before heaving out a heavy sigh and turned to look at the river that was flowing.

"I was betrayed," I started with my eyes shut tightly.

"How? By who?" He asked, staring at my face.

I thought about the whole situation from the day I caught my husband-to-be and my only sister making out to the very day that they threw insulting words at me.

I heaved out a heavy sigh of relief as I let down the tears that I'd been holding back for a while now. I slipped the whiskey before turning to him.

"I was betrayed by my only sister and fiance whom I was supposed to get married to yesterday," I said and started crying.

I allowed my emotions to overtake my whole body this time around because I've been acting too strong to break down all this while.

I cried while gulping down the whiskey. When I got tired, I looked up at him to get a signal to continue, and he nodded but interrupted me all of a sudden.

"How did both of them betray you all at once, making your heart shatter into pieces?" I asked with his arms folded across his chest.

He looked handsome no matter the kind of expression he made on his face, but that's the least of my problems now as I am still trying to heal from Ethan and Celeste.

"I caught both of them having sex at our guest house a night before my wedding," I said.

"What! That's very bad of him," he said.

"You can say that again," I said, cleaning off the tears on my face for fresh ones to start coming out.

"What did you do to them to make them pay?" He asked.

"Make them pay? Pfft! I recorded a video of them and played it on our wedding day which was yesterday maybe he might come back to his senses, but instead my parents replaced me with my sister on the altar saying since I wasn't interested anymore, at least, he should marry the one he made out with," I said, with fresh tears coming out of my eyes and it was hurting my cheeks because of how hot it was.

"I can't believe this!" He said, shaking his head.

"That's not all," I said, raising a finger.

"What else? At least you've left the marriage and ready to move on," he said.

"Firstly, I'm not sure if I am ready to move on. Secondly, I made out with a stranger yesterday, and I dropped a bundle of money for him before leaving," I said, laughing like a hyena who had just caught its prey.

"What?" He asked, staring at me angrily.

"What is what? Anyways, I forgot to ask about your name," I said.

"I am Liam," he said, still on with his angry expression.

"Why the sudden change? You were happy that I was telling you what happened just now," I asked, staring at him confused.

"Let's leave that aside, what do you plan on doing now that your life has been shattered?" Liam asked.

"I don't know. I had planned on ending my life to let everything go, but you came and saved me, which leaves me with no other option than to keep getting insults from them every day," I said.

I took the bottle of whiskey and placed it on my mouth thinking I still had some left, but alas, I had gulped down everything within an hour.

"Do you have more inside your car?" I asked.

"No, that's the only whiskey I have left," he said.

"Ohhh!" I reacted, heaving out a sigh.

"I have a solution that will shake your parents," Liam said.

"And what is that?" I asked.

"Let's get married!" Liam said which caught me unawares.

I stared at him for a while and laughed my heart out.

"Are you serious about this?" I asked.

"Yes, let's get married," Liam said.

I stared at him thinking he had finally gone insane.

"Why should I get married to a total stranger that I know nothing about?" I asked, staring at his blue charming eyes.

"Marry me and give me a son so that your parents will stop thinking you can't have any good person in your life," Liam said.

"What if I don't agree to that?" I asked.

Liam stared at me for a while before moving closer to where I was sitting and pulled my ear closer to whisper something.

"Because I was the one you made out with yesterday night and dropped a bundle of money for me at Velvet Lounge this morning," Liam whispered.

"What the heck?" I asked shifting back.

I had never expected to meet up with the guy I made out with yesterday. If I had recognized him earlier, I would have ignored him and jumped into the river.

Now, I've finally come across the man I made out with, and he is proposing marriage; this is one thing I feared, and it's actually coming to reality.

But wait, if I marry him, I will stop getting ridiculed by my parents. Just before I could finish my thoughts, he whispered something to my ear again.

"It will be based on a Contract," he said.
