Chapter 3 - Unfamiliar Territory

The sun was shining on a hot summer day within Yichang City. The streets, surrounded by skyscrapers, were filled with the dusty air of the endless amount of cars next to the big crowded walkways full of mostly people in suits walking down the concrete streets.

It was an average day within a second-class city of Huaxia, where wealth ruled and people dreamed of becoming rich. The people walking from place to place mostly paid no attention to others, yet suddenly something happened that only a few could fully ignore.

Something fell; nobody knew exactly from where and from how high it came, but suddenly something fell on the very streets they were walking. Most people were momentarily shocked until they continued on their way. They had stuff to do and places to be and no time to inspect an unknown object probably thrown out of a building.

But some people couldn't ignore it and took a closer look, and what they saw when they did sent a jolt of shock through their spine. It was a human? What happened? Did he jump from a building? Did he die? Some people chose to go away, while some came closer to help and check up on the human.

The human himself looked quite weird; he had a weird white robe on him, and surprisingly, no injury was visible on his body. Even more shockingly for the bystanders and helpers, the man got up shortly after and looked around in disorientation.

"Are you ok?" someone asked.

The mountain lord, after looking at the unfamiliar environment, suddenly heard someone speak. Surprisingly, he could understand the strange-looking person without any issues. "Ähm..., yes, I am... ok," he replied.

"You look out of it. Do you need us to call an ambulance?"

"Ambulance? What is that?" the mountain lord replied. Soon after, the ambulance arrived. A few people rushed out of the weird metal machine that could move as fast as a wild animal. And put weird instruments on the mountain lord's body.

"Pulse ok!" "Breathing ok!"

"Hey, are you fine?"

"I ... fine," the mountain lord replied. It had to be noted down that the mountain lord hadn't talked to a person since he took in the mountain as his home, so he wasn't familiar with human interaction.

"What is your name?"

"My name? Don't know."

"Alright, please come with us to the hospital for now," the doctor said, and soon the mountain lord found himself on the way to the hospital. For now he chose to observe and was quite pleased with the comfortable transport.

"It seems like we have a case of memory loss," someone said.

"Amnesia? What is the last thing you remember before waking up?" a doctor asked.

"I... nothing," the mountain lord was contemplating whether to tell the truth, that he just got sucked into a black space but chose to keep it to himself and observe for now.

The ambulance quickly arrived at the hospital, and the mountain lord was quickly put through different examinations.

"Now this will be your test patient to draw blood from; don't be nervous and do as practiced."

In front of the mountain lord stood a nervous-looking intern. He had never drawn blood before, and he would be his first patient.

"Excuse me, put your arm in this position and relax."

Seeing that the patient followed his instruction, the intern took out the needle and tried injecting it into the mountain lord.

*Clang* The needle suddenly split and fell to the floor, and the intern panicked. "I'm so sorry, mister. I will be back with a new needle," yet the doctor suddenly came into the room.

"It's fine; there is no need to take his blood. Mr. Ähm, sir, your body is perfectly fine. Even to a point that is quite hard to believe, in my 40 years of being a doctor, I have never seen someone like you. The only problem we have now is the amnesia. We haven't found any form of ID or other clues about your identity to call any relatives. Is there really nothing that you remember?"

"Nothing," the mountain lord replied. He didn't understand most of what was said regarding an ID or calling relatives but chose to remain in his current position.

"So, we need to somehow secure your identity for now, and after calling with different people, we have decided to give you a temporary ID without a name, and once your identity is clear, we will give you back your own ID," the doctor had called the police chief, who discussed the mountain lord situation with several administrators. In the end, this was the solution. Give him an ID, some money, and a hotel room to stay in for a month. Hopefully in a month it will be clear who the mysterious man is, or even better if he remembers himself.

The mountain lord was escorted to his hotel room and got something that was explained as money. So something equal to spirit stones? Anyways, he was quite surprised and pleased by these people. They didn't know his background, and he had nothing, yet he received care and even money as well as a personal chamber.

They even seemed to use some advanced arrays, as turning on the TV, the shower, the light and more seemed only possible with arrays. Weirdly enough, though, he couldn't sense them at all.

The world in general was very slim on spiritual energy. Compared to his old spot, it was like comparing heaven to the common ground. With this amount of spiritual energy, he couldn't even produce his transformed Qi. Well, it didn't matter, as the Qi stored in his dantian was more than enough for a long time.

The problem was that cultivating would be impossible in these conditions, so the only thing he could do for now was to see how this world works. The artifact sent me here, saying this will be an ascension. I wonder what secrets this place holds.
