Chapter 241 - A Craftsman Must Sharpen His Tools

Though Luoshu had a good memory and could recall the sequence the guard had input, he had a hunch—this wasn't a fixed password.

Under the green light, the letters and numbers on the steel drawers weren't arranged in any logical order. Instead, they resembled a randomized virtual keyboard, like those used for online banking passwords.

In short: this was a dynamic cipher that changed every time.

Now that's a problem.

Luoshu could use Master Key's ability—he could even remotely summon the actual Master Key from Site-19—but Master Key wasn't truly omnipotent.

At least, not against this mechanism.

Why?

Master Key could open password locks, sure, but this giant tactile input panel worked differently. It required physical strikes on specific drawers in sequence to trigger the unlocking mechanism.

This involved real-time ciphers, vibration sensors, and other tech beyond Master Key's capabilities.

It had to be said—China's technological advancements in recent years had begun surpassing the New World in certain fields.

As a Chinese-American, Luoshu felt both pride and a headache.

It seemed he'd have to waste a Persuasion use every time he wanted to enter Site-CN-06, relying on the guard to open the door.

But there was another concern: how to get out?

During his first infiltration of Site-CN-02, he'd only thought about getting in, nearly getting trapped by a spatial anomaly on the way out.

Before descending the stairs, Luoshu turned back to ask his "guide":

"When I want to leave, how do I get out?"

The guard pointed to a card reader with a display on the stairwell wall.

"When the coast is clear, swipe your card and input the dynamic code."

Luoshu thought for a moment, then used Mechanical Animation on the reader.

Now, his new "lockpick underling" could handle entry and exit—no more bothering the guard.

With that settled, he descended without looking back.

Site-CN-06, here I come!

But a glance at his watch revealed only half an hour of usable time left.

Finding the entrance had taken too long—tonight's mission to record anomalies would have to wait.

No matter. Tonight was just reconnaissance.

A craftsman must sharpen his tools if he is to do his work well.

Only by preparing thoroughly could he maximize efficiency later.

Next objective: Find the server room.

Based on his Site-CN-02 experience, Luoshu realized that hacking the mainframe was better than planting dozens of informants.

The site's entire surveillance network was controlled by the central system—once he owned it, he could manipulate every camera and access critical intel, streamlining his anomaly collection.

Like his final night at Site-CN-02, where he'd bagged 9 anomalies in one go, including 3 Keters.

That kind of efficiency was unthinkable during his Site-19 days.

If he could replicate it here, five nights max would suffice to clear Site-CN-06.

The Underground Facility

The lower levels of Site-CN-06 resembled a research institute more than a containment site.

A privacy wall stood in the stairwell lobby, emblazoned with the site's logo:

Blue background with the Foundation's three-arrowed gear.

White diamond-grid pattern (symbolizing cellular structures).

A black magnifying glass (representing research).

The text: "SITE-CN-VI" in Greek numerals.

Compared to Site-CN-02's awkward black Chinese knot with a Greek "II," Luoshu preferred this clean, thematic design.

Beneath the logo, a plaque read:

"SITE-CN-VI – Experimental Containment & Research Site."

Beyond the wall lay the main corridor, flanked by labs and offices.

The sheer volume of research spaces highlighted Site-CN-06's academic focus—far surpassing any site Luoshu had visited before.

Considering their contributions during SARS, Luoshu's disdain for the Foundation lessened slightly.

He decided to only record new anomalies this time—no unnecessary sabotage.

(Though given the Foundation's track record, he doubted they'd turn things around anyway.)

The Hunt for the Server Room

Site-CN-06's office zone was vast, making the search for the server room another ordeal.

Reluctantly, Luoshu burned another Persuasion charge to recruit a security officer as a guide.

With help, he finally located the Security Department—shunted to a remote corner, a telling sign that researchers outranked security here.

The server room, guarded by Security, was an easy infiltration.

Like Site-CN-02, the core system was a supercomputer—this one named "Leukocyte"—with its own AI.

Luoshu knew the drill: Cult Leader Charisma.

But after Site-CN-02's debacle, he knew using reality-warping abilities would trigger Foundation satellites monitoring Hume fluctuations.

To avoid detection, he devised a workaround:

Reverse Warping + Cult Leader Charisma.

This kept his personal Hume index near baseline, preventing satellite detection, while the suppressed environmental Hume went unnoticed—Kant Counters were calibrated to track high personal Hume, not dips.

Minutes later, "Leukocyte" became another AI disciple.

It was then that Luoshu fully grasped SCP-105-Iris's Reverse Warping ability—a perfect cloak for reality bending.

A shame he'd exhausted its uses. To regain it, he'd need to meet Iris again.

Mission Complete (For Tonight)

With the mainframe subverted, Luoshu had laid the groundwork for future raids.

He retreated before his Unobservable State expired, vanishing into the night.

Site-CN-06 wouldn't know what hit them.

But next time—the real harvest would begin.
