Chapter 7 - Inheritance

However, his current situation wasn't much better as he was already severely injured by the saber light. He was bleeding from the injuries all over his body and couldn't even move.

Just as he wanted to muster up the energy to get up and run away, the two men entered the building and cornered him inside.

"Hehe, a brat at the fifth level of the foundation establishment realm thinks he can escape from us? I don't know if you're just brave or stupid."

"We initially wanted to give you a quick death but now that you've angered us, we'll make you suffer as much as possible."

Just as they approached the heavily injured Adrian, a drop of blood landed on the pendant hidden in his robes.

Suddenly, the pendant started emitting a rainbow-colored light that that would have shot to the sky and attracted a lot of attention if they hadn't been inside the building. This light enveloped Adrian just as he passed out from the pain and blood loss.

The two men were shocked and tried to escape. However, they were too late as the rainbow light enveloped them and vaporized them before they could even scream for help.

Adrian woke up after God knows how long to find no traces of his pursuers. Only a scorched mark was left where the two men were standing previously.

He was initially confused and skeptical, wondering where they were and why they hadn't killed him yet.

Just as he was getting up to leave, a head-splitting pain suddenly assaulted his mind. It was so painful that he immediately brought him to his knees.

He started clutching his head and was about to scream when he remembered his circumstances. The veins on his head started bulging and he gritted his teeth and bit his lip until it started bleeding.

The pain finally started fading away after a minute. He heaved a sigh of relief as he dragged himself to a corner of the building.

As he sat down on the ground wearily, he hadn't even realized that he, who was seriously injured a while ago was already perfectly fine. It was as if all his previous injuries were an illusion.

As he was catching his breath, he suddenly realized that he had a whole new wave of memories. Memories that weren't his and weren't there previously.

This shocked him as he initially thought that an evil spirit was trying to take over his body. However, when he calmed down and thought it through, he found out that these memories contained cultivation manuals, martial art techniques, alchemy recipes, rune patterns, knowledge of rare herbs and so much more.

It was as if the knowledge of the world and all it entails were forcefully crammed into his mind.

As he was sorting through the memories, an aged voice resounded in his ears.

"Within the blood star, I leave a gift. All the knowledge I have acquired in my lifetime is now yours..... should it deem you worthy of course. Rejoice in your fortune or despair in your misery. Remember inheritor, the one who granted you this wealth is I, THE SAGE OF SLAUGHTER."

When the voice echoed in his ears, Adrian's eyes widened. Perhaps others did not know who the sage of slaughter was but as a member of one of the great families, he knew much more than ordinary people. The sage of slaughter was famous across all five continents even though he was born many millennia ago.

He was a powerhouse of the Orthodox faction who had many incredible feats to his name, including killing the demon lord at the time. He was said to have reached the Pinnacle of the world. That's right, he reached the Supreme immortal realm. A realm that was only rumored to exist. Shortly after that, however, he inexplicably vanished. Many powerhouses tried to find his whereabouts to no avail.

Many believed that he had rid himself of the affairs of the world and entered into perpetual cultivation, some believed he had left this world completely and had gone to a new world, while the absolute minority believed that he had perished.

However, they were quickly drowned out because of how unlikely that was. What a joke. Someone at that level basically had an infinite lifespan, so dying of old age was impossible. And saying that someone killed him was even more ludicrous. Who the f*ck could kill a supreme immortal. The possibility of that happening was exactly zero.

His disappearance became a mystery and soon became a conversation topic that people used to liven the atmosphere at restaurants, bars, and brothels. But who would have thought that the opinion of the minority was actually the correct one? Though the sage of slaughter had indeed become a supreme immortal, the injuries accumulated during his breakthrough were too much. For reasons unknown, no amount of pills could heal him, and his life force started diminishing.

He sensed this, and just before passing away, he compressed the culmination of his life's work and put it into his greatest treasure, the blood star. Then tossed it into the ocean that separated the continents and watched it flow towards the fated one.

Adrian sat there in shock for a few moments as he couldn't believe what had just happened. Had he actually received the inheritance of the sage of slaughter? He reached towards his chest and brought out the necklace that was hidden in his robes. This was the only way to verify that he wasn't in an illusion and he had indeed obtained the sage of slaughter's inheritance.

His mind was in disarray for a few more minutes before he finally forced himself to calm down. No wonder his father told him not to tell a soul about the pendant. If word of this were to leak out, he could only imagine the disaster that would befall him.

Every major sect, family, and kingdom would hunt him down in order to obtain the inheritance.

Even those old monsters who had been in seclusion for hundreds of years would come out and start hunting him down.

A breath from them could erase him from existence, not to mention them actively trying to find him.

The thought of such a huge treasure being in his hand filled him with immense joy. However, when he remembered that the price he had to pay for it was his whole family, his mood dampened and became rather somber again.
