Chapter 7 - Not The Moon He Knew

William's Pov.

As we walked towards my car, one word echoed in my mind—unbelievable!

Since marrying Moon, I had never been left speechless like this. But tonight, I was. Completely.

The way she looked, the way she carried herself…it hit different.

And that dress! It was so elegant and regal that it made it impossible to ignore her.

Before I even realized it, I was already by her side, drawn in like never before.

Heat stirred deep within me, a familiar ache I hadn't felt for her in a long time.

My mind drifted back to that night—that night I had punished her with rough, relentless, love making, determined to make her pay for entering my life uninvited.

Her skin had been soft back then, but it doesn't compare to how soft it was now.

And those lips… I had the sudden urge to claim them, to taste what I once possessed.

A small hand tugged at my arm, yanking me from my reverie.

"William!" Clarissa's voice cut through the haze of my thoughts. It was sharp with irritation. "Are you even listening to me?"

I blinked, turning to her, and immediately saw the hurt in her eyes.

Guilt settled in my chest. The fact that Moon had distracted me from the woman I supposedly loved… it didn't make any sense.

My mind was back.

"I'm sorry," I muttered, rubbing my temple. "It won't happen again, okay?"

And then I shuffled into the car, but not without glaring at Moon who just shrugged like nothing happened.

I expected Clarissa to join me, but the next thing I heard was a shriek, and then followed by Moon's vicious words.

I frowned. This wasn't the Moon I knew. The woman I married would have been in tears by now, begging for respect she knew she'd never get. But tonight, she didn't care.

And for some reasons I couldn't explain, it unsettled me.

The drive to the auction hall was a silent one, just the low hum of the engine filling the space between us.

Moon sat beside me, gazing out the window, with an unreadable expression

The soft glow of the city lights flickered across her face, highlighting the delicate features I had long chosen to ignore.

She hadn't spoken much since we left the house, and I wasn't in the mood to break the silence either.

I couldn't stop thinking about what happened a while ago. Where Nehita was getting her confidence.

And what was Clarissa on about what people were talking about Moon? My heart gave an unusual thud. Was she seeing someone else?

I balled my hands into fists. How dare she? Being married to me and seeing someone else?

I made a mental note to ask her when we're alone.

When we arrived, the valet opened the door first. Moon stepped out gracefully, the richness of her gown catching the light, making more than a few heads turn in our direction.

And then she grabbed my arm, smiling and clinging on to me like a koala.

Why was she smiling? Maybe what Clarissa said about how she's desperate to marry into my family is true.

Was she really approaching my grandmother just to secure her place here?

"What do you think you're doing?" I asked, mockery dripping down my tone but her smile broadens even more, irking me further.

I wanted to protest more, but she tipped on her toes, reminding me of what would happen when news of our divorce spreads and I swallow back my words.

That was right. I just couldn't handle it. Not when I have an upcoming project that would fetch me billions of dollars.

Moon wasn't dumb after all. She's really changed. Her words made me see her in another light.

So I played along. Playing the good husband and happy couple. The camera's flashed non-stop, and questions flung our way.

"Mr William, I heard you're about to divorce your wife. Why do you feel the need to divorce her? Don't you love her?"

"Mr William, is it because of your first love that you're divorcing Mrs William?"

"Mrs William, how do you feel about the news?"

The moon I knew would have long hidden in the shadows. Timid, scared like a cat. But this Moon raised a hand to her mouth, that single act, making a pin drop silence rain down on the land.

I watched with a mixture of emotions as she took charge of the chaotic situation with just a raise of her finger?

They brought the microphone to her mouth, waiting to hear what she had to say. To be honest, I was waiting too, to see how she was going to handle this.

"I want you to disregard any kind of information about me and…" she paused to look at me with love filled eyes. Like we are the most loving couple of the century. "...William. We are not going to divorce now, nor are we going to divorce in the near future."

Her voice was steady, and her countenance was mild, like she was born to do this.

Before they could ask another myriad of questions, she nods and beats them to it, hinting that she wouldn't be answering any questions. "That will be all for now."

The security escorts, seeing this, covered us, as they escorted us into the hall.

I followed, nodding stiffly at the staff who welcomed us with the usual flattery and eager smiles.

Inside, the grand hall buzzed with murmurs and laughter, champagne flutes clinking as the wealthy mingled and flaunted their riches.

I led us to our reserved seats near the front, acknowledging a few familiar faces with curt nods.

Moon did as well, moving through the crowd with effortless grace, her smile warm yet poised as she acknowledged the guests with a slight nod or a delicate wave.

She carried herself with an ease that turned heads, drawing quiet murmurs and lingering gazes.

I had thought that bringing her here tonight was a mistake—a clear disaster waiting to happen. She had always been awkward, out of place, someone I constantly felt the need to correct or hide.

But now…

She was different.

Her posture was straight, her steps measured, and the way she carried herself spoke of confidence I had never seen in her before.

She met every glance without flinching, her eyes steady and unreadable.

Conversations paused as she passed, people whispering behind their glasses of champagne.

I knew what they were talking about and I couldn't blame them. For the first time in forever, this was the first time we had come to an event like this walking hand in hand.

I found myself watching her more than I should. Someone talked to her and she tilted her head to answer. Her long and flawless neck glistened in the light, making her appear like moon. There was no hesitation, and no nervous fidgeting.

She handled small talk with ease, her voice calm, and each carefully chosen word left an impression where it shouldn't.

I clenched my jaw, an unsettling feeling creeping in. This wasn't the woman I had married—the one who once looked at me with desperate longing, who wilted under Clarissa's sharp words.

No, this Moon was composed, too composed and untouchable.

And for the first time, I wasn't sure if that was a good thing.

My phone pinged, and I reluctantly tore my eyes away from Moon. The message was from my rival business competitor. But the contents of the message sent shock and surprise rippling through my body!
