Episode 16
"You..." Claire was so angry that she trembled all over, but she didn't dare to lay a finger on her. Through gritted teeth, she said, "...it might be a mistake from the clothing store."
"I see..." Manon dragged out her words, looked at her with sarcasm, and scanned the room. She noticed that Chelsea was gone, but didn't ask and just turned around and left.
Leaving Claire with a pale and green face, it was quite lively.
On the other side, Chelsea walked up to Megan and whispered, "Megan , guess what I just saw?"
Intentionally leaving a cliffhanger, Megan became interested and asked, "What did you see?"
"I just saw that necklace in Manon's jewelry box!" Chelsea face was full of joy.
Upon hearing this, Megan's eyes lit up instantly.
As long as Manon and Adrian exchanged their tokens, her position as the fiancée would be secured!
She scanned the banquet hall and saw Manon slowly walking towards her.
Seeing that she was not wearing the evening dress she gave her,she felt a little disappointed.
But she couldn't think about that now, she had more important things to talk to her about...
Megan's eyes darkened and she immediately walked up to Manon .
Manon was holding a glass of red wine in one hand and standing in front of the French window. Her gaze was lowered, her eyebrows lightly furrowed, and she seemed to be lost in thought. Megan walked up to her without her noticing.
Megan noticed that she was distracted and had an idea.
As she walked slowly behind Manon , she pretended to stumble and grabbed Manon in a panic.Manon was caught off guard and took a few steps forward, barely stabilizing herself. However, the jewelry box she was holding in her hand slipped and fell to the ground.
"Sister, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." Megan looked at Manon with an apologetic smile on her face, her voice soft, but her gaze fell to the ground.
Manon followed her gaze and sneered in her heart. So she was waiting for her here.
The attendant picked up Manon's jewelry box and handed it to her.
Manon took the jewelry box and heard Megan speak up.
"Sister, you came to my birthday banquet, why did you bring a jewelry box? What's inside? Can you show me?" Megan's urgency was not disguised at all, and by the time she realized it, it was too late.
A trace of embarrassment crossed her face, and she looked at Manon, hoping that the other party had not noticed her impatience.
Manon smiled inwardly and said nothing, handing the jewelry box to Megan. "Take a look."
Opening the jewelry box, Megan pretended to be surprised. She looked up at Manon, her eyes full of undisguised eagerness. "Sister, is this the token you exchanged with Adrian before? You're married now, why don't you return it to him?"
She deliberately raised her voice, and people around her noticed and came over, looking at the necklace with curiosity.
Manon raised an eyebrow, but before she could speak, she heard a deep male voice.
"I don't want it."
Hearing the familiar voice, Megan face turned pale and she turned to look.
Manon lowered her eyes, hiding the smile in her eyes. After a while, she looked at Megan and said slowly, "I remember you were engaged to Adrian, right? This necklace is also from his family. Since that's the case, you can have it.""What?!" Megan stared at Manon, trying to figure out her intentions.
Manon, however, was too lazy to argue with her and walked directly to Adrian. "Adrian, I'm already married, and you have a new fiancée. I'll give the necklace to Megan, but the jade bracelet belongs to my mother's legacy. Why don't you give it back to me?"
Her voice was not loud, but everyone present could hear her. They began to discuss and nod in agreement.
The three of them stood in the middle of the crowd. When had Adrian ever received such scrutiny? His face changed immediately. He looked at Manon, his eyes deepening, and after a while, he gritted his teeth and said, "The bracelet is in my house. Come and get it tonight."
As soon as he finished speaking, Megan's's face turned white again. She turned around and shouted, "Adrian!"
As Manon's former fiancé, how could he let her go to his house late at night? How would others see her as the legitimate fiancée in the future?
Adrian ignored Megan directly. His gaze fell straight on Manon and didn't move.
Manon glanced at Megan and said, "Okay."
After speaking, she turned around and left the banquet. She came here just to get the token back, and now that it was done, there was no reason to stay.
Seeing the protagonist leave, everyone else stopped paying attention and turned back to their conversations.
Megan stood in place, staring straight at Adrian's, her eyes full of unwillingness.
She walked quickly to Adrian and lowered her voice, "Adrian, what do you mean?"
Adrian didn't care about Megan at all. Seeing her still coming up to him, he naturally wouldn't give her a good face.
"Are you questioning me?" His tone was gloomy and his eyes were fullof displeasure.
Megan was frightened by his appearance and immediately shook her head to deny it. But before she could speak, the voice of Adrian rang out again.
"Megan, stay in your place and don't interfere with my affairs! Otherwise, I can't guarantee that your position as my fiancée will be secure!"
With that, Adrian turned and left, leaving Megan with a pale face.
She stood on the ground, clenching her fists, her eyes full of resentment that had long since turned into hatred.
It was all because of Manon ...
It was all her fault!
If she hadn't come back, none of this would have happened!
Manon knew nothing about this. After leaving the banquet, she went straight home.
Opening the door, the room was silent, without a trace of smoke or fire. Manon stood at the door, blinked her eyes, and felt a faint sense of loss in her heart.
Walking into the living room, she casually leaned on the sofa, looking down at her phone screen, but her fingers didn't slide on the screen.
Manon was conflicted in her heart for a long time. still although she was not afraid of Adrian's family, she still didn't have enough power to make Adrian respect her.
She was also unsure about going to his house tonight, worried that she wouldn't be able to handle him . After much thought, she decided to dial that number.
The phone rang, but no one answered. Manon waited for a long time, and it was only around six o'clock.
Just as she was about to hang up, the other end of the line was answered.
"Hello, may I ask who's calling?" A soft female voice came from the phone.
Manon's heart suddenly skipped a beat, and her hand holding thephone stiffened involuntarily.
"Hello, I'm looking for Louis." Her voice was calm, giving no indication that anything was wrong.
The woman on the other end paused for a moment before replying, "Louis is taking a shower. Can you call back later?"
