Chapter 24
"I'll go," Manon replied softly on the phone, a hint of a smile in her eyes as she hung up.
What goes around comes around...
The events of last night were still fresh in her mind, and with such an important engagement party, she should prepare a grand gift...
The next day, Manon went alone to Megan's engagement party.
As she arrived at the entrance of the banquet hall, a dull roar of an engine could be heard from nearby. The guests who had not yet entered the hall looked over curiously.In just a few seconds, a silver-gray Bentley suddenly appeared like lightning in the eyes of the crowd. When they reacted, they saw a girl lying on the car, taking off her helmet. Her long legs easily stepped on the ground, and she casually ran her fingers through her hair. Her thick, black, curly hair flowed behind her, and she walked down from the car with a graceful posture.
There was an immediate buzz of discussion around her.
Manon casually placed her helmet on the motorcycle and took out the invitation from her pocket. Ignoring the comments of others, she walked into the banquet hall.
As soon as Manon entered the hall, she saw Adrian's figure in front of her. He looked at her with a hint of sarcasm in his eyes, and the memory of the events of two nights ago made his mocking expression even more obvious.
"Our Miss Anderson came alone? Didn't Mr. Malcolm accompany you?"
Manon didn't care about his taunts. She didn't come here to argue with him ...
Looking at him , Manon suddenly became teary-eyed and took two steps closer to him.
"Adrian, you were right Louis is not sincere to me. He married me on the surface, but he still has someone else behind my back."
For the sake of today'sperformance, she didn't wear any makeup. Her white skin looked pale under the light, and the two black spots in the depths of her eyes made her look even more haggard.
"Huh, you want to come to me after being abandoned by Louis? Manon , eating the grass on the other side is not that easy."
Adrian hadn't forgotten the kick Louis had given him, but Manon did look pitiful, and he felt a little itchy in his heart.
When she heard his words, Manon looked up at him, tears hanging in her eyes, ready to fall. When she spoke again, her voice was choked with sobs. "Adrian, I was deceived by Louis before, but now I see him clearly. I regret it, can't you break off the engagement with Megan?"
Megan had been paying attention to Manon since she came in, and when she saw her standing with Adrian, she walked over. Just as she reached Adrian's side, she heard Manon's's words and her face immediately darkened. "Manon ! What do you mean?"
Adrian's good mood was interrupted, and his expression became gloomy. "What's it to you?"
Impatiently waving Megan away, Adrian walked a few steps closer to Manon , looking at her with deep affection. "Manon , promise me."Hearing that Adrian had agreed, Megan's expression changed drastically. She quickly grabbed Adrian's arm. "Adrian, you can't do this to me. The engagement banquet has already started. If you back out now, the damage to your family will be more than just a little!"
Adrian looked at her with disgust and was about to speak when Mr Anderson deep voice came. "What are you doing?!"
Mr Anderson strode over in anger. He had originally disagreed with inviting Manon, but Megan insisted that she wanted her sister at the engagement banquet and begged him for a long time. He had always indulged his youngest daughter, but now he heard what was going on?!
"Dad, sister wants Adrian to marry her." Seeing her father, Megan immediately gained confidence and her voice became more forceful.
Hearing this, Mr Anderson exploded with rage and pointed at Manon with disbelief. "You animal! He's your brother-in-law! Don't you have any shame?!"
Manon ignored him and looked straight at Adrian, as if on the verge of tears. How could Adrian bear to see her like this? His body shook and he pulled her behind him, blocking Mr Anderson hand.
Mr Anderson was so angry that he trembled all over, staring at Adrian with disbelief. "Adrian! Are you rebelling too?!"
"Yes, I want to marry Manon," Adrian said firmly, looking at him.
Mr Anderson was furious, his face turning red as he repeated his objections several times.
Megan was alarmed by her father's's reaction and quickly supported him. She was about to scold Manon when the latter chuckled lightly.
The group looked at her, seeing her cold expression and clear eyes. The haggard appearance from earlier had disappeared without a trace. She looked at Adrian with a mocking smile and said, "I was just joking. You didn't take it seriously, did you?"Adrian didn't believe her words and reached for the engagement ring in his suit pocket. However, a familiar voice suddenly sounded in his ear, causing him to freeze.
"What are you doing? Why is it so lively here?"
The person who arrived was Derrick, Claire's godfather. Claire was worried that Megan would be bullied by manon, so she invited him to come and help out. As a result, he arrived just in time to witness this scene.
"Uncle ." Adrian turned around stiffly.
He had agreed to marry Megan because of this person. Derrick was a big shot in the capital, and their family needed his help in certain matters. When he proposed that Megan replace Manon in their engagement, Adrian was happy to do so. After all, he was going to be engaged to someone else anyway. Marrying Megan would also allow him to hold onto his uncle's favor. Why not?
But now...
"Well, isn't the engagement banquet starting yet?" Derrick glanced coldly at Manon , but his words were directed at Adrian.
Mr Anderson and Megan breathed a sigh of relief, as if they had taken a pill to calm their nerves.
Manon didn't miss the change in the three's expressions, and a faint mockery rose in her eyes.
"All the guests are here. We can start now," Megan surveyed the room, not seeing anyone absent.
"Well, let's begin then." Derrick nodded lightly, turned slowly, and patted Yue Adrian's shoulder with his hand. "Adrian, Megan is a good girl. You must treat her well. If you hurt her, I won't let you off the hook."
With that, derrick strolled away, leaving Adrian stiff and staring at his back with anger in his eyes.
This old guy was warning him!
If he didn't need him, how could Adrian tolerate this kind of treatment?!
Despite his anger, the engagement banquet proceeded as planned with his uncle's gaze fixed on him, making him feel an invisible pressure and forcing him to maintain a stiff smile throughout the event.
After exchanging engagement rings, Adrian leaned down to kiss Megan, and the video of their first meeting played on the screen in the banquet hall. Roses suddenly fell from the sky, making the scene even more romantic.
Only Megan was full of doubts.
This wasn't what she had planned at all. Could it be her mother's doing? It was really romantic...She covered up her confusion, smiled, closed her eyes, and welcomed Adrian's kiss.
