When Jeff left for college, Zack went to school. Both their parents kept acting like everything was fine, but when they left, smith threw the letter into the blazing fire of the furnace and the mother cried on her husband's shoulder and said," Sorry, my son. I wish this college never existed," while moaning as loud as a wolf.
Their mother was always calm and collected, but talking about the secret gave a new side to her. Jeff and Zack never knew about it.
The father just hoped Jeff would be lucky enough to survive the cruel fate ahead. Their parents felt like they had abandoned their eldest son. They needed to fund his stay at the college even if their son might disappear.
Smith remembered that he survived this college and fell in love with Susan, and they were married. They had children. Even if their existence endangered the children, they wanted to live a happy family life, although their actions were selfish. Smith wanted to flee to another country, but he heard that his brother tried to escape with his family to another country and he was killed on the spot. Smith knew that the college knew all its citizens' locations all the time because of a tracker placed on all the citizens' hands. Smith's brother knew about the tracker-like bracelet, but to his surprise, when he broke the bracelet, it was very easy. Despite that, the college knew their location right away because the signal coming from them was lost. In just a mere 10 minutes, they were captured and sent away, never to be seen. The college informed Smith about their demise without showing him any dead bodies, which sounded strange to most people, but Smith knew the secret and knew why there were no bodies.
After learning of his brother's death, Smith decided that they couldn't escape. Smith and Suzan wanted to die multiple times because of the burden they were carrying, but they never had the guts to do it. They were cowards and couldn't die because they wanted to live even if their future looked grim. Susan cries, "We abandoned him, Smith". Smith replies with slight sorrow not believing his own words, "Don't worry honey I am sure he will survive because our boy is the strongest there is. Even if it was all about luck, I am sure he won't leave us. Have faith that he will one day return to us". Susan replies angrily," You don't have to act like it is fine when it is not. I will be fine; don't worry about me! pray that our son will return home safely after his years are over in a flash".
Jeff was standing in a room full of people his age. It was his orientation. The students were forced to be gathered at the orientation of the Great Gravies College. Jeff felt the heavy atmosphere and uneasiness towards the other students, but he didn't care. He decided to face this college head-on. The headmaster spoke his speech. The headmaster spoke intensely," We value one thing above all else in this university. Hard work and dedication. If someone slacked off and couldn't study, he would be expelled." Jeff knew that the atmosphere was heavy, but he believed that maybe this college wasn't so scary but just strict. The headmaster continued with a statement and finished his speech," No matter who you are, if you cause trouble the consequences would be dire, and if you are expelled you! Well, you might never want to find out what it means!". Instead of motivation, the students felt fear because this headmaster did sound intimidating, but to Jeff, all they wanted was to excel at college." This is an easy thing", Jeff thought.
Jeff made one friend who saw his real nature quite often. A girl named Kaddy, the same age as him, felt that Jeff looked like a boy who seduced older women with his looks. Kaddy was quite strange but in secret, she had a huge crush on Jeff but couldn't let it show because she felt he wouldn't love her back so she kept her emotions hidden and was a bookworm who tried to follow the headmaster's advice to strive to be the best, follow the rules, and never get in trouble or as the headmaster said: "expelled ". Jeff didn't hang out with anyone besides Kaddy because he wasn't very popular, and Kaddy was the one who had approached him first. Knowing Jeff, he didn't trust her at all but thought of her as just a companion who would listen to his mumbles all the time. Even if Jeff didn't completely trust her, He had to admit that the void of leaving his parents and brother was filled by her.
They first met after the orientation ended. Kaddy smiled at him and tried to say hi, but Jeff hurriedly looked away in another direction. Kaddy was a stubborn girl. no matter how many times others warned her not to talk with Jeff, who the students thought was weird, she didn't listen. Eventually, Kaddy's friends started avoiding her. They believed they couldn't be seen with Jeff because Kaddy was always trying to approach him. Kaddy's life was hard since she wanted to get closer to Jeff, and Jeff didn't make it any easier. Jeff caused trouble for Kaddy by being annoying like cutting her off from the cafeteria when it was time for the students to eat and small mischiefs like spraying water in her face from the school's fountain because at first, he just didn't want her company but after 3 months his attitude changed and was getting used to her company. Kaddy was always trying to grab Jeff's attention because she was truly convinced that Jeff was her future soul mate. Jeff didn't know why this girl was so insistent on talking to him. Even Kaddy herself didn't know why she cared so much about Jeff. Maybe it was because of his looks or cool guy act, but to her, it was his eyes that looked soft and caring even if he acted in a rude way his eyes said otherwise. She believed if she got closer to Jeff and gained his trust, he would treat her right after they graduated. It was a very naïve thought that kept Kaddy trying to get closer. The other students thought of Jeff as a nuisance, but no one told him this truth to his face since they feared the headmaster's warning of" expelled".
Jeff's mind was drifting on something else other than Kaddy. Jeff was still worried because of the whispers of the adults and the strange glances when Jeff tried to hear what they were discussing. It was a weird feeling that the college was hiding something. Despite that, he was convincing himself that the college was just strict.
After a year, Jeff stopped causing trouble for Kaddy, and they became good friends.
