Chapter 4 - Daylight Dilemmas

Damon POV

Sheila and Bonnie got ready to go, grabbing Emily's spell book before following me to my car so that I could drive us over. As we walked outside I took a better look and Sheila and paused, she looked to be on deaths door so I stopped her and bit into my wrist holding it up to her mouth. She looked at me for a long moment before I nodded and she finally gave in and drank. Her color came back in full before she took a deep breath in and adjusted herself. She then looked at me and said, "Thank you, I didn't know how much time I had left because of my years of drinking and last nights spell I was pushing it." Bonnie broke down in tears when she heard how close she came to losing her grandmother. Sheila just held her for a few moments before she said, "Now hush Bonnie I'm fine Damon here saved me for deaths door. I will have to be careful with my diet for a while and take my medicine on time though, vampire blood can only do so much." Bonnie then did something I wasn't expecting and she jumped at me hugging the daylights out of me while sobbing. I just patted her back in comfort before handing her off to Sheila and getting into my car. Bonnie finally calmed down enough to get in the back while Sheila took the front seat so we could finally save my wife from the dark corner of the house.

We pulled up to the boarding house where I noticed all the windows open with light shinning in through everyone and Elena standing in the doorway with a smug look on her face. My worry spiked as I listened for Opal, luckily she was still in our room but Stephan was quick to join Elena at the door. Already irritated with Elena and Stephan I walked up to them with the Bennett witches close behind me. "What is the meaning of this Stephan?" I asked with irritation lacing my tone. Stephan looked slightly guilty while Elena just looked smug as she said, "I wasn't safe with her in the house, so I opened all the curtains that way the sunlight would keep her away from me until we know she is safe to be around." I all but growled out at her, "She is perfectly safe to be around. She is my wife and you will do well to remember that or I will make you remember it. This is my home and I will not let you come in and insult my wife by locking her away in her own home. You are Stephan's guest so act like one and be respectful of those who own the home. If you don't feel safe here than simply leave and don't come back until you can be civil towards my wife." Elena then started to sputter before she said, "This is Stephan's house as well you can't just tell me to leave." I let out a humorless laugh when I said, "Actually princess this is my house always has been. I had it built for our fathers bastard son and it has been in my name for 145 years. Stephan as my brother is allowed to live and store his things here but it is not his house. It is mine and the next living Salvatore who no longer exists thanks to Stephan's little game earlier this year." I looked at Stephan before I continued "You might want to reel in you Chihuahua brother before I do." Stephan finally getting the load of trouble Elena is causing for him stepped in and said, "He is right Elena this is his house always has been. It's always been in his name entrusted to the last Salvatore descendant until their death where it goes back to him until he can chose the next 'owner' with them all gone it is his again."

She simply looked at Stephan and hmphed before stomping her foot. Only then did she notice the Bennett's and turned to Bonnie before she said, "What are you doing here Bonnie? I thought you hated Damon." I rolled my eyes at her as I walked into the house and started to close all the drapes and shutters. Bonnie and Sheila followed me into the drawing room and sat on the couch while I went to get Opal. Stephan and Elena followed the Bennett's into the drawing room Elena still pestering Bonnie. She finally couldn't take it anymore and said, "We are here to make a daylight ring for Opal at Damon's request. He helped heal Grams so I'm helping him." to her credit Elena did sound concerned when she heard about Sheila but soon changed back to interrogating Bonnie on why she would help a potential risk to her life. Sheila in exasperation said, "Enough Elena this is between us and Damon you have no say in the matter. Now child sit there quietly so we can get to work helping right the wrong your ancestor inflicted on Damon's young bride."

Opal POV

I chuckled as I heard the Bennett matriarch chastise the entitled copy about her attitude. I was getting annoyed with her the moment she started to open all the curtains forcing me to retreat to my room in order to avoid being burnt. I walked into the drawing room with Damon at my side our hands interlocking. The Bennett matriarch stood and offered her hand I hesitated for a brief second and looked to Damon for approval to which he nodded and I took her hand in min allowing her to see my life. She gasped and gripped my hand tighter she looked to my abdomen and I nodded to which she patted my hand in understanding before she said, "Lets get you that daylight bracelet made shall we." I nodded and looked to Damon as he pulled out a simplistic but elegant bracelet with a lapis lazuli stone that had a floral motif carved into the stone set in a gold band that wont get in the way of me using my hands. sometimes I marvel at how well my husband knows me, I stood on my toes and pulled him in for a quick kiss and said, "It's beautiful, thank you Damon." He smiled down at me and said, "Your very welcome, I would do anything for you Opal." he then kissed my forehead and tightened his hold on my waist. The young Bennett couldn't hold it anymore and said, "You guys are just the cutest thing I have ever seen." I chuckled at her excitement and walked over to the couch ready to be able to see the sun again after 145 years. The Bennett matriarch walked over and said, "I am Sheila and this is my granddaughter Bonnie. Let's get you back in the sun shall we." I smiled at Sheila and said, "I would like that very much. I still need to go shopping so that I can stop wearing Damon's shirts as dresses." Sheila and Bonnie both chuckled at that. Sheila opened her grimoire to the spell she needed and said, "Would you like to see it for yourself? Damon told me you were a witch."

I smiled knowing he had to tell them so Sheila would be willing to help so I nodded and said, "Both my brother and myself were very talented according to our mother. He went missing in the war though so I have no idea what happened to him or if he survived." Sheila nodded in understanding while Elena scoffed, I ignored her and continued "Damon save my old grimoires if you want I could show them to you. Once I get a proper wardrobe that is, and Bonnie if you would like I can teach you some of the things my mother taught me if Sheila approves." Both Bennett's laughed at that and Sheila nodded in thanks before she said, "That would be lovely we will have to set up a time to meet for the exchange. Now before we get to sidetracked lets get you back in the sun." Sheila handed me the bracelet and had me place it onto a table that was in direct line of the closed window. Bonnie then stood and opened the window letting the sun touch the stone before she said "a sole tegere, a periculis ad vitam lamentari" which is ironically simple but also if you get the intent behind the words wrong you wouldn't be able to enchant anything with just the words. Bonnie then handed me the bracelet and I put it on before slowly putting my hand into the stream of light from the window. When I didn't burn I literally squealed in delight and rushed to encase Bonnie in the biggest hug I could without hurting her before I said, "Thank you, you have no Idea how lonely you feel without the gift that is the suns warm embrace." Both witches nod in understanding because in magic every part of nature is a part of your very soul.
