As the car wound its way up the long, winding driveway, Jennie's anxiety grew. The trip was quite long, but moving in would save her a huge chunk of money on transportation, plus the pay was double her previous salary. Lost in thought, Jennie failed to notice the dense forest surrounding the mansion, the trees growing taller and closer together as they approached the entrance.
Finally, the driver stopped in front of a massive, ornate gate that looked like it belonged in a fairy tale. The gate was a deep, burnished gold, with vines and flowers intricately carved into its surface. Jennie's eyes widened as she took in the sheer scale of the gate.
"Fuck, are you sure this is the right place?" Jennie exclaimed, her voice barely above a whisper. "How am I going to survive cleaning this monstrosity?" The driver chuckled and said, "Miss Jennie, welcome to your new home."
The driver stuck his head out the window, and the gate's security system scanned his face before swinging open with a soft creak. As the gate opened, Jennie caught a glimpse of the mansion's facade, its stone walls glowing warmly in the sunlight. The driver turned to Jennie and said, "Shall we?" Jennie took a deep breath, grabbed her bag, and stepped out of the car.
As she stood before the mansion, Jennie's eyes grew wide. The building was a sprawling, Gothic-style castle with towers and turrets reaching towards the sky. The walls were made of rough-hewn stone, and the windows were stained glass, casting colorful patterns on the ground. A delicate fountain bubbled and splashed in the courtyard, adding to the sense of tranquility.
Jennie's heart racing, she walked up the path to the front door, her heels clicking on the stone pavement. The door was massive, with intricate carvings of leaves and flowers. Jennie raised her hand, hesitated for a moment, and then pressed the doorbell. The sound of chimes echoed through the air, and a soft, melodious voice spoke from the intercom.
"Good morning, Miss Jennie. Kindly come in. The door is open. Please remove your outside shoes and wear the house shoes provided behind the door. There is a table and chair in the sitting area. Sit quietly and wait for your interview to begin." Jennie's heart skipped a beat as she pushed open the door and stepped inside.
The foyer was grand, with a sweeping staircase curving up to the left. The floor was made of polished marble, and the walls were adorned with paintings of landscapes and portraits. Jennie's eyes adjusted slowly to the dim light, and she spotted a table and chair in the sitting area to her right. A delicate vase filled with fresh flowers sat on the table, filling the air with their sweet scent.
Jennie walked over to the table, her eyes fixed on the note that read, "Please remove your outside shoes and wear the house shoes provided." She slipped off her boots and put on the soft, plush slippers waiting for her behind the door. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves, and sat down in the chair.
Miss Lily, the head maid, watched Jennie from afar, a warm smile on her face. "The interview had not even started, and Jennie was a nervous mess," she thought to herself. "If she had seen the way the young master had looked at her while she catwalked from the car to the entrance..." Miss Lily's eyes twinkled with amusement.
Jennie walked in nervously, her heart beating like a scared horse, but she looked confident with her red lips, plum cheeks, and long jaws. Her dark brown eyes looked everywhere else but the interviewer, and her rabbit teeth made her stand out even more. She smelled like Jasmine flowers, and her hair was neatly tied into a tight bun, making her face pop out even more.
Miss Lily's eyes sparkled with delight as she took in Jennie's appearance. "She looked stubborn, but her smile was genuine. She would be perfect for the job."
Jennie sat down opposite Miss Lily, her eyes fixed on the older woman's face. "Good morning, Ma. I'm Jennie, here for the interview for the maid position." Miss Lily smiled warmly and handed Jennie a thick, three-page questionnaire to answer about herself, her love life, her life ,cleaning experiences, personality, allergies, likes and dislikes, background her job qualifications and experiences etc.
After three hours, Jennie finished the exam and handed the papers back to Miss Lily. The older woman stood up, her eyes twinkling with amusement, and walked over to the study room. She knocked three times on the old, intricate door, which was carved to look like a forest filled with butterflies on the branches and flowers.
The young master, Jacob, opened the door, his piercing grey eyes sparkling with curiosity. He took the exam papers from Miss Lily and scanned through them, his eyebrows rising in surprise. Suddenly, he burst into laughter.
"I asked for a maid, why are you looking for a wife, Lily?, she has no experience as a maid" Jacob teased, his eyes sparkling with amusement. Miss Lily stared at him with teary puppy eyes for a minute before he signed the approval form for Jennie to be hired.
He looked up and laughed, "My dear tricky old lady, you can ask her to start work today. I have a stack of documents for her to organize, and the books in the study need to be organized alphabetically. Then she can clean and mop the floor. After that, she's free to go her room ." Miss Lily took her leave and went to break the good and bad news to nervous Jennie, who was tapping her leg nervously on the ground, waiting for Miss Lily.
As Miss Lily entered the room, Jennie stood up, her eyes fixed on the older woman's face. "Well, Miss Jennie, it seems you're hired," Miss Lily said with a warm smile. Jennie's face lit up with relief and excitement.
"But there's a catch," Miss Lily continued. "The young master requires you to start work immediately. Are you up for the task?" Jennie nodded eagerly, her heart racing with anticipation.
As she followed Miss Lily to the study room, Jennie couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. She had never been a maid before, but she was determined to learn and prove herself.
As she entered the study room, Jennie's eyes widened in awe. The room was filled with books and documents, and the young master, Jacob, sat behind a large desk, his eyes fixed on her. Jennie felt a flutter in her chest as their eyes met, and she couldn't help but wonder what the future held for her in this grand mansion
