Chapter 4 - The Hidden Agenda.

Alexander perspective:**

I'd always known that my family was ruthless in their pursuit of power and wealth. Our name, Chung, was synonymous with cunning and ambition in the cutthroat world of corporate finance. But despite being a part of this family, I'd never been privy to their inner workings. My father, Jae-Ho Chung, was a master manipulator, always playing his cards close to his chest. And my brother, Dylan, was his loyal protégé, eager to prove himself as a worthy successor to our father's empire.

As I sat in my sleek, black Mercedes, speeding down the 405 freeway, the soft hum of the engine and the gentle whoosh of the air conditioning vents created a soothing melody that belied the turmoil brewing inside me. I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. My brother's sudden interest in Eva's family company, Lim Enterprises, seemed too convenient, too calculated. I knew that Dylan was involved in some shady dealings, but I had no idea what he was really after.

The sound of Korean hip-hop drifted from the car speakers, the beat pulsating in time with my racing heart. I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel, my eyes fixed on the road ahead. The warm California sun cast a golden glow over the city, but I felt a chill run down my spine.

I'd always known that my family was cruel and ruthless, but I'd never had the courage to stand up to them. My brother's treatment of Eva was a prime example of their cruelty. He'd always belittled her, making snide comments about her intelligence and business acumen. I'd watched him reduce her to tears on more than one occasion, and it had taken every ounce of self-control I possessed not to intervene.

But despite my brother's cruelty, I'd always admired Eva's strength and resilience. She was a brilliant businesswoman, with a sharp mind and a quick wit. And she was beautiful, with piercing green eyes and long, raven-black hair. I'd found myself drawn to her again and again, despite the danger that our families' rivalry posed.

As a prominent figure in the Los Angeles business scene, I'd built a reputation as a shrewd and ruthless deal-maker. My company, AK Investments, was a major player in the city's financial landscape, and I took pride in my ability to navigate the complex web of corporate finance. But I'd always prided myself on my integrity, and the thought of my own family being involved in something shady made my blood boil.

I decided to pay a visit to our family's lawyer, Mr. Jenkins, a man with a reputation for being as slippery as a snake. His thinning gray hair was combed over his balding head, and his beady brown eyes seemed to bore into my soul as I entered his office.

The soft creak of the leather armchair echoed through the room as Mr. Jenkins shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "Ah, Alexander, what can I do for you?" he asked, his voice dripping with false sincerity.

I cut straight to the chase. "I want to know what's going on with Lim Enterprises," I said, my eyes locked on his. "What's Dylan's involvement?" The sound of my voice was firm, commanding attention.

Mr. Jenkins shifted uncomfortably in his seat, avoiding eye contact. His fleshy face seemed to sag, and his jowls quivered as he spoke. "I'm not at liberty to discuss that, Alexander," he said, his voice hesitant.

I leaned forward, my elbows on his desk, and pressed my point. The soft thud of my elbows on the desk echoed through the room. "Come on, Mr. Jenkins, you can trust me," I said, trying to sound persuasive. "I'm a busy man, and I don't have time to waste on games. Just tell me what's going on."

Mr. Jenkins sighed, rubbing his temples. The soft scratching sound of his fingers on his skin seemed to fill the room. His eyes seemed to cloud over, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of fear. "Okay, fine," he said finally. "But you have to promise not to tell anyone I told you."

I nodded, my heart racing with anticipation. The soft creak of the leather armchair echoed through the room as I shifted forward. "I promise."

Mr. Jenkins leaned in, his voice barely above a whisper. The soft whoosh of his breath seemed to caress my ear. "Your father is planning a hostile takeover of Lim Enterprises. And Dylan is right in the middle of it."

My eyes widened in shock, my mind racing with the implications. I felt a wave of anger wash over me, followed by a cold, calculated determination. I was going to stop my family's sinister plans, no matter what it took.

I stood up, my movements swift and decisive. "Thank you, Mr. Jenkins," I said, my voice firm. "I appreciate your honesty." Mr. Jenkins nodded, his eyes darting nervously around the room. "Be careful, Alexander," he said, his voice low. "Your family won't hesitate to crush anyone who gets in their way." I nodded, my jaw clenched in determination. I knew that I was taking a risk by going up against my family, but I was willing to do whatever it took to protect Eva and her family. As I walked out of Mr. Jenkins' office, I felt a sense of purpose that I'd never felt before. I was going to take down my family's empire, no matter what it took.

The warm California sun hit me like a slap in the face as I walked out of the office building. I squinted, pulling out my sunglasses and slipping them on. The cool shade was a welcome relief, and I felt a sense of calm wash over me.

I made my way to my car, my mind racing with thoughts of my family's plans. A hostile takeover of Lim Enterprises was a bold move, even for my father. I knew that I had to act fast if I wanted to stop him.

As I drove away from the office building, my thoughts turned to Eva. I wondered if she had any idea what was going on. Did she know that her family's company was in danger? I made a mental note to reach out to her as soon as possible.

The drive back to my office was a blur. My mind was preoccupied with thoughts of my family's plans and how I could stop them. When I arrived at my office, I was greeted by my assistant, who handed me a stack of files and messages.

"Anything urgent?" I asked, scanning the messages.

"One thing, sir," my assistant replied. "Eva Lim called. She wants to meet with you."

My heart skipped a beat. What did Eva want to meet with me about? Did she already know about my family's plans?

"Scheduled a meeting with her for as soon as possible," I instructed my assistant.

As I waited for Eva to arrive, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. What would she say? And how would I respond? The minutes ticked by slowly, each one feeling like an eternity.

Finally, my assistant buzzed me, letting me know that Eva had arrived. I stood up, smoothing out my suit jacket. I took a deep breath, preparing myself for what was to come...
