Chapter 16 - Losing Money But Gaining Skills

[ Your luck has been decided ]

[ The wheel has stopped ]

[ You've gained Klaus Stark's talent skill ]

[ You've gained the skill Mana Rage ]

'Lucky me!' Noa thought. 'Securing a regeneration ability would have been boring. Talent skills are always better, but why did the system decide to play gacha with me? I don't remember it happening in the game.'

After contemplating his situation and the unexpected changes, Noa read the skill description.

[ Skill: Mana Rage ]

— Your touch marks an opponent's mana. You can detonate it at will. It scales with your mana pool and inflicts an additional 30% damage. It also allows you to detonate the bodies of your slain enemies.

"Wow! It really deserves to be called an S-ranked skill," Noa said happily, instantly detonating Klaus and his henchmen.

'How ironic. I'm hiding your corpse with your skill,' he reflected.

Four quick booms resonated in the hallway, and before someone or something caught his ass, Noa left the scene with Aeris in his arms.

As he saw no remains of the scene he created, Noa heard a sound.

Ding!

[ It has been detected that you possess the Doom God's divine Mark ]

[ The skill Mana Rage will get additional benefits ]

"Holy…" he exclaimed, checking the description once more.

[ Skill: Mana Rage ]

Doom's Sacrifice: 0/5

'Damn! It feels like a necromancer skill. I am getting stronger and even more OP as time goes on. But I need to test it later. Not only do I have the best talent, but she also provided me with added perks.'

Noa was in a good mood.

However, his rational mind realized something.

'What if she is not helping with good intentions? I know what kind of fucked-up shit happens in this world, and what if she wants to use me somehow?'

Then he smirked.

'It's a big risk. I might actually lose my balls, but she is worth the gamble. And it's not like I can do anything about it.'

Klaus tried to destroy Velrox in the game.

Even though he succeeded, it wasn't because he beat Arthur or wiped out humanity.

The planet was destined for annihilation, with various calamities, colossal monsters, and demonic creatures attacking it every year.

Then, a couple of years later, not only would the sixth abyss emerge, but the other five would crumble, transforming the world into an apocalyptic setting.

No matter how much Arthur or the players struggled through the game, the outcome never changed.

The Abyssal monster, the one who controlled six abysses, descended and obliterated the entire planet in a single sweep of its hand.

Noa's mission was to change this ending.

His first steps were completed.

Now all he needed was to find a way home and bring Aeris to safety.

'I lost 100 echoes for it. Does it mean there might be other conditions that make me lose them? I need to be careful, but this kind of benefit is well worth it.'

As he was close to the exit and no other trouble loomed, Noa reached the doorway and stepped out of the building.

The Scar was on the other side of the street, yet chaos still lingered.

'We can't waste time here.'

With Aeris in his arms, Noa dashed off the road, leaving the crashed cars and broken highway poles behind.

No monster could be seen in his vicinity, but people panicked.

Thankfully, after Noa crossed the dangerous zone and his sister woke up, Embers arrived, taking control of the situation.

He was afraid someone would stop him, but no one paid attention to him.

Of the six Embers that appeared on the scene, Noa couldn't recognize any of them, but he didn't use the inspect skill either, knowing that it might alert them.

"Where are we?" Aeris asked after he put her down.

"Don't worry," he said. "We are safe and on the way home."

But Noa had no idea where their house was located, as it was his first day in this world, and even though he received memories upon the transmigration, they contained only intense feelings.

'What a chaotic and eventful first day. I doubt I can catch a break.'

At least he caught the taxi, deliberately looking absent-minded so Aeris would give the direction.

"Inbox Street, building 69," she said.

"$15," the taxi driver answered.

'My money!'

Noa remembered that not only did he not receive the fat paycheck for becoming an Ember, but he couldn't sell his orbs either.

His mood turned sour suddenly.

'I have to complete my registration in a different branch tomorrow,' he decided.

But the fact that he was still broke and couldn't spend his riches hurt his heart slightly.

To cheer his heart, Noa glanced at his status window.

There were plenty of changes to see.

After losing 100 echoes, Noa automatically gained 100 extra EXP points, meaning he would start from level 2 from this point onward.

Not the greatest thing in the world, but not the end of it either.

Especially when his every death would count as a level-up.

He also got three levels' worth of attributes and some proficiency increase as well.

Now that he had two mana-based skills, one of which would raise his mana expenditure, Noa had to find a good use for his ten attribute points.

Without considering too much, he put all of them in intelligence, boosting his future performance.

The taxi stopped as it neared his home.

Noa and Aeris walked cheerfully, happy to survive the dangerous situation in one piece.

Just as he was thinking about his meeting with the twins, Noa's phone buzzed.

"You've gotta be kidding me!" he exclaimed, stunning his sister and the neighborhood.
