Chapter 2 - Eighth Birthday

Today was the day Silas turned eight

Over the past couple years Silas learned a lot about this new world of his. This world seems to be similar to the medieval era back on blue star.

At first this surprised Silas, how could two completely different planets have such a similar culture and history but after thinking about it for a while it made sense. Silas remembered back to his biology class. His teacher mentioned that if certain conditions are similar then nature will likely take the same route of evolution. However something was evidently different. In this world their were mages!

Silas first learned about the existence of mages when reading books about legends of the land. In the book it described a human who could make natural phenomena appear out of seemingly nowhere.

After reading this Silas instantly went to his father for answers. Brandon, seeing Silas's excitement, carefully explained the existence of mages to him. Silas ended up learning that mages weren't entirely human.

What happened was thousands of years ago a group of elves lost their home, seeing that the humans offered them a deal. The humans would offer them shelter and food in exchange for having the elves help build their empires.

The elves agreed to this and together they built massive empires. Eventually over time the elves and the humans started getting married and having children, over the course of thousands of years the elven bloodline had run thin creating the modern day mage.

Hearing this Silas was confused, how did elven blood even create mages? After asking about this Brandon explained that elves have the ability to communicate with spirits however human mages can use certain chats and their thin elven bloodline to command low level elemental spirits who haven't gained sentience yet to use the magical energy in the air to do their bidding.

Brandon continued explaining that real elves would never do something as barbaric as basically enslaving low level spirits.

Real elves, when they are young, find true spirits who have just gained their sentientence befriend them and make contracts with them

After hearing this Silas was both fascinated by the elves and curious how his father knew all this but his brain was mainly focused on mages so he never asked him

A few more years after that Silas got the answer to his curiosity. He learned that his father was a famous herbalist who traveled a lot when he was younger

Apparently the reason his family lived in this village was because the nearby forest had many rare herbs his father needed for his work so they decided to settle down here

Something that was nice was that on his fathers many journeys he collected a lot of books about different plants and animals. Books in this age were expensive so that made his family fairley rich.

He spent most of his day reading those books out of sheer boredom. At first it was to help him learn the language but then it turned into a way to entertain himself

As it turns out, being a baby is extremely boring. It's always the same: eat, sleep, and crap your pants to annoy your mom. He has to continue this cycle waiting for his body to eventually grow up

However there were some interesting books about this world. Coupled that with his fathers stories and was barely able to scrape up the common sense of this world.

Eventually to his dismay Silas learned that in this world there were no cultivators. After learning this he couldn't help but get extremely sad. His life's goal was to become a cultivator now that he learned that they didn't exist it was as if his will to life was snuffed out. After wallowing in his depression for a year Silas finally decided! If there were no cultivators in this world then he himself will become the first ever cultivator! After all if there are magical races like elves and spirits there has to be magic or spiritual energy in this world somewhere

After regaining his determination Silas strove to learn everything about this world to prepare himself for when he had to set out to explore it himself.

While in search of learning more about magic Silas learned from his father that besides the elves there were many other supernatural races with special abilities

Anyways moving on from that today was Silas's eighth birthday and as per usual his parents threw him a huge birthday party

His father prior to his birthday went into town and bought a lot of Silas's favorite sweats while also getting him a couple birthday presents. Silas had a huge sweet tooth so he loved it when his father bought him sweets

After giving Silas a few sweats and his favorite breakfast the family went off to the forest. In this little village there aren't a lot of things you can do for fun and it would take you many days by carriage to get to the big city so the only place nearby that was fun was the nearby forest

The forest otherwise known as the Serine Willow Forest was split into three parts: the outer, middle, and deep forest. The outer forest takes up 35% of the whole forest; it is mainly filled with small harmless herbivores like rabbits and some small carnivores that like to feed on rabbits, any medium sized carnivores were either killed or driven back by the guards of the village deeper into the forest. The outer forest is exactly where Silas will be spending his birthday

The first thing the family did was go on a hike to help digest breakfast. Brandon, Lily, and Silas started hiking through the forest until they found themselves at the top of a waterfall!

"Today's first activity is waterfall diving!" Brandon shouted aloud

Seeing the 5 meter tall waterfall Silas couldn't help but feel this was extremely dangerous. This waterfall was made from really clear water and formed a mini lake where the water landed

"Ahhh dad are you Crazy! I am only 8 years old! How am I supposed to jump off this waterfall!" Silas shouted back in complaint

Hearing this Brandon couldn't help but smirk to himself

" Are you sure about that? Back in my day me and your mother did this kind of thing all the time." Brandon said

Hearing what his father said, Silas's eyes couldn't help but twitch. However before Silas could say anything back his father followed up by saying

"Don't worry too much, I already checked the place out right beforehand and I can guarantee that it's safe and besides I am going to be doing it with you, with me around it won't be dangerous at all." Brandon said to try to reassure him

Although what his father just told him did reassure him a little, Silas was still terrified of jumping as he should be.

Seeing Silas looking over the edge in worry and fear Brandon just decided to show him how fun it was. Just as Silas was about to say anything Brandon held his breath, jumped off the cliff and did a midair somersault before diving into the water feet first.

Seeing his dad swim out of the lake of water Silas almost couldn't believe his eyes, he had heard of waterfall diving in his last life but he never knew someone crazy enough to do it!

After Brandon finished getting out of the water he hiked back up to the top of the waterfall, there was a relatively easy to climb hill leading back up to the top of the waterfall

Getting back to the top of the waterfall Brandon just smirked and said "see just like that, easy right?

Seeing his father's smirk, Silas couldn't even respond, he had never seen his father act like this before he was usually so calm and cautious. It was as if he was a completely different person.

"Alright it's your turn, your diving with me" Brandon said "also remember to always hold your breath and dive feet first"

Just before Silas was about to refuse Brandon grabbed Silas and jumped again. Feeling the sensation of falling without anything underneath his feet Silas started to panic. Feeling he had no other way out Silas just held his breath and stuck his feet out first right before plunging into the water.

After swimming out of the lake Silas felt amazing!!! It had been so long since he actually got such an incredible adrenaline rush! It has been way too long since he actually felt alive!

"Hey dad can we go again!" Silas said
