Chapter 10
The night was quiet, the dark sky covering all that transpired beneath it. In a forest two hundred miles from Notting City, Lin Bai stopped to rest.
He had overexerted himself with high-intensity telekinesis and felt dizzy. Setting up the tent he had bought earlier, he quickly fell into a deep sleep.
The first light of dawn broke, and everything was still.
Inside the tent, Lin Bai woke up, reflecting on everything that happened yesterday. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. He had money now. He could buy the martial arts evolution card, originally priced at 100,000 yuan, whenever he wanted.
"System, refresh the mall."
In the last two months, the system mall had refreshed twice, with the best discount being 50% off. Lin Bai wasn't satisfied with this, though. While he now had money, he still wanted to save.
"In addition to the three awakening cards, show me spiritual items with attributes suited to me."
If an item was discounted by 10%, it was the same as a 30% discount on the awakening card. There was no need to chase a 10% discount on the awakening card itself.
A flash of light appeared, and his balance dropped by ten thousand.
Lin Bai checked the items. First, there were the three cards. The evolution card was discounted by 30% and 10%, but the Twin Martial Soul Awakening card had no discount.
Looking at the other spiritual items, none had a discount.
"Seriously? Ten thousand gold coins gone?" Lin Bai grumbled, feeling some regret.
He shook it off and decided to press on. "Refresh again!"
"Refresh! Refresh!"
After five attempts, the Twin Soul Awakening Card finally had a 20% discount.
Lin Bai bought it immediately. A glowing golden card appeared in his hand, causing his blood to rush and his skin to heat up. It felt like his body was overheating, and he knew his bloodline was reacting.
Quickly, he decided to use the card.
The golden card shattered into liquid that absorbed into his skin, flowing throughout his body. His blood surged, refining itself as it had when he first awakened his martial spirit.
Stretching out his left hand, his soul power began to gather and formed a new figure.
"Wait, what is this?"
Lin Bai nervously looked at his second martial spirit.
The light faded, revealing a small, fat silkworm with its mouth open above Lin Bai's head, trying to appear menacing.
It was the same martial spirit as his father's.
Lin Bai facepalmed, too embarrassed to look at himself in the mirror. He could imagine how ridiculous it must look.
After a long pause, Lin Bai dismissed the martial spirit and collected himself. "I shouldn't have expected too much. My parents are ordinary people. I can't expect to awaken a powerful martial spirit."
"System, give me a high-level martial soul card."
A purple card appeared in his hand, identical to the reward he'd received when he first recharged.
"Seems like the system's just been waiting for me," Lin Bai muttered.
With a 10% discount, he spent 9,000 gold soul coins on the high-level martial soul card.
He sighed, "It's hard to take advantage of the system sometimes."
Lin Bai used the card, and the purple light enveloped his body, strengthening his martial spirit and bloodline.
He pulled out a mirror and looked at the changes. The Silkworm Baby's martial spirit transformed. Golden lines appeared on its white skin, and the soft texture hardened into something more solid and powerful.
Using the Eye of Appraisal, Lin Bai read the new martial spirit's details.
[Advanced Martial Spirit: Golden Silkworm King]
Characteristics: Devouring, TransformationEvolution Conditions: Take enough wood essence or blood stimulation to evolve into a golden flash moth. Alternatively, powerful dragon blood can evolve it into a golden dragon silkworm.Mutation Evolution Conditions: The golden dragon silkworm can fuse with any element. It can evolve into a six-winged dragon moth or devour high-level dragon blood to become the World-Eating Dragon, the Silkworm Dragon.
"Super god level..." Lin Bai muttered, taking in the details. Martial spirits stemmed from blood, and beast martial spirits could evolve, but Lin Bai wasn't sure he could achieve such heights.
His new Golden Silkworm King martial spirit needed evolution. To do that, he would need two evolution cards and two mutation evolution cards.
"The gap in gold soul coins is huge. I still have 270,000 left, but unless the mutation evolution card is refreshed with a discount, I can't afford it. The super martial soul can wait. I'll focus on evolving both martial spirits to their peak levels first."
Lin Bai refreshed the mall five times, spending 30,000 and 40,000 gold soul coins to buy two martial soul evolution cards.
By now, the sun had risen, and its light streamed into the tent. Lin Bai stretched and stepped outside, ready to activate the cards.
He held both cards in hand, activating them simultaneously.
Golden light engulfed him, filling his body with rich metallic energy and dragon blood. The two energies balanced each other and transformed his bloodline, evolving his martial spirit.
Lin Bai expected pain, but it felt more like soaking in a warm spring. The energy gathered in his heart as his martial spirit evolved.
Relieved, Lin Bai exhaled, feeling stronger than ever. It felt as though he could crush a cow with a single punch.
"Martial spirits come from blood, but something's off with the humans in this world. Hammers, dragons, angels—our bloodlines are so mixed."
But when Lin Bai thought about his Silkworm Baby Martial Spirit, he stopped complaining. He tried jumping up and down but realized his strength hadn't increased by much. Probably because he hadn't yet attached a soul ring.
He summoned his martial spirits, first the Ghost Gate Golden Needle. After evolving into the Ruyi Golden Needle, the appearance of the thirteen golden needles didn't change much, except for a few mysterious carvings.
With a thought, the golden needles began to grow longer and thicker, becoming three-meter-long spears. His soul power dropped by half, but he could imagine the golden needles as weapons sharp enough to pierce even the Clear Sky Hammer.
"These golden needles are sharper. They might be able to pierce the Clear Sky Hammer. When they're this long, they resemble spears. I should buy some spear techniques from the mall."
Lin Bai dismissed the Ruyi Golden Needle, watching as it shrank back to its original size.
He opened the mall and searched for spear techniques.
After rejecting hundreds of techniques he couldn't afford, Lin Bai bought a spear technique from the Three Kingdoms, inherited by Zhao Yun from the spear prodigy Tong Yuan. Zhao Yun had further refined the technique, making it even more powerful.
