Chapter 1 - Chp 01

For the residents of 86 Eastleigh Road, Southampton, Hampshire, July 29th was clearly not an ordinary day.

The morning bell had just struck seven when young Jon Hart had already climbed out of bed.

Throwing a Scientific magazine aside, he ran out of the room and headed for the kitchen.

"Mom, has there been any letter?"

Mrs. Judy Hart was the co-owner of 86 Eastleigh Road, a petite blonde who was only slightly taller than her 11-year-old son.

"I'm sorry, dear, it seems that it hasn't arrived yet." She was frying French fries in the kitchen and turned back to smile at Jon: "Your father is waiting at the door."

Jon walked into the yard and, sure enough, Mr. Eric Hart was pacing at the door.

"Eric, there's no need to be so nervous!" Jon whispered.

"Nervous? I'm not nervous at all!" Mr. Hart glanced at his son and pretended to be calm, "The old professors at Windsor Palace should feel honored that Eton has such an outstanding freshman like you!"

...

...

However, while he was speaking, his feet kept stomping on the floor frequently.

Eric Hart is a well-known local lawyer, and his wife Judy is an excellent fashion designer. Both husband and wife are leaders in their respective fields, with a combined annual income of nearly 200,000 pounds. Even in Southampton, a port city with a high inflation level, the family of three can live a very decent life.

But what makes them even more proud is their child Jon. In Eric and Judy's opinion, there is no better child in the world than Jon.

Jon has been a very sensible child since he was young... When other children were crying, he had already started to learn to talk to his parents seriously; when other children were clamoring for all kinds of toys, he had already started to read a lot of somewhat obscure scientific journals.

When he was five years old, he gave an impromptu speech in a street interview entitled "The Falkland Islands (Malvinas Islands) are an inseparable part of Great Britain since ancient times", which became widely circulated and won great praise.

In the UK SATs? exam (National Primary School Completion Examination) a month ago, Jon scored full marks in all six papers, which can be said to be the best in Hampshire's nearly century-long history.

 …

Jon Hart, he is a time traveler.

In his previous life, he was a doctoral student in the Department of Biology at a second-rate university in Germany, and his research direction was microbiology and immunity. After an unexpected car accident and losing consciousness, he found that he had traveled to a middle-class family in Britain in the 1980s and turned into a baby.

Jon, who had studied for more than 20 years in his previous life, didn't know lottery numbers and knew nothing about finance... In fact, in the late 20th century and early 21st century, the classes in developed countries had basically solidified and the systems were quite complete; it was not realistic to make a fortune by taking advantage of some memories of the past life.

There is no golden finger, but there seems to be a little benefit of time travel: after traveling through time, his memory is very good, almost to the level of photographic memory.

Therefore, Jon decided to follow the path of his previous life, study hard, work hard on scientific research, and strive for socialist modernization all his life!

As early as the age of five, he had made detailed plans for his development over the next thirty years.

He showed some "child prodigy" qualities since childhood, achieved good results in the British SATs (National Primary School Completion Examination), and applied to top secondary schools such as St. Paul's, Magdalene and Eton.

Then, with the help of the excellent secondary school platform and excellent performance in the A-Level exam (British college entrance examination), you can enter the microbiology department of Oxford or Cambridge.

With the help of his outstanding memory in this life, Jon can clearly remember the research data and results from decades later in his previous life, which can help him avoid many detours on the road of scientific research.

During college, Jon will begin to show his "talent" in scientific research, conduct experiments to reveal the activation and inhibition mechanisms of innate immune mechanisms and publish relevant papers. This shocking paper will definitely cause a huge sensation in the microbial community around the millennium. Jon will also take this opportunity to meet big names such as John Robert Vane, John E. Sulston, and Niels Kaj Jerne (all Nobel Prize winners in Physiology or Medicine from Oxford and Cambridge).

After gaining a certain degree of fame, he would ask for help from the big names, and one or two years before graduating from university, he would be able to go to Harvard or MIT to pursue a master's degree.

For his master's research, Jon will choose to isolate and culture a SARS virus strain in the early stage of the SARS outbreak in 2000, China, reveal the pathogenic mechanism of the SARS virus, and try to develop a related subunit vaccine as soon as possible.

During his doctoral studies, he will shift his focus to cancer and study methods of treating cancer through negative immune regulation...

Before a doctoral student graduates, if nothing unexpected happens, he can publish 3-5 classic papers in the world's most authoritative journals such as Nature, Lancet, and CA-Cancer J Clin (Journal of Clinical Oncology).

With such outstanding achievements, he can easily become a professor at Harvard or MIT after graduating with a doctorate.

He will continue to conduct research in these areas. If all goes well, he will probably win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine between 2015 and 2020 for his contributions to microbiology and immunity.

 …

The idea is nice, but we have to face reality first.

He first had to apply to one of the top secondary schools in the UK... To be honest, Eton College was not the best choice. After all, it was a traditional aristocratic secondary school. Although it had begun to enroll students from commoner backgrounds in recent years, the requirements were extremely high.

However, this is the opinion of his father Eric. In Eric's view, entering an aristocratic high school like Eton College can help Jon meet many future big figures and accumulate considerable connections in advance.

Honestly, Eric has the right idea.

If memory serves me correctly, in the next few years, Prince William and Prince Harry (both sons of Prince Charles and Princess Diana) will both attend Eton College, and William, the direct heir to the royal family, should be a student in the same class as Jon.

Being classmates with the future King of England? It seems like a very interesting thing.

But think about it, it's also a lifetime series; you know, Prince William's grandmother still maintained a strong vitality when Jon traveled through in his previous life, and she was a person who could be compared with a certain great man!

Jon was thinking idly when he suddenly heard a click from the mailbox outside the door.

"Oh... God... they are coming!" Eric's face was a little pale and he stammered.

 "I'll go get the letter!"

Jon opened the yard door. There were three golden lions painted on the mailbox, with a dead brown bear under their feet... Eric had put it there more than half a year ago to celebrate a major event.

There was also a tabby cat, standing by the mailbox, staring at the door of 86 Eastleigh Road.

"Go away!" Jon kicked the wild cat away and took out a stack of letters from the mailbox.

While reading the letter, he returned home, and Eric and Judy surrounded him hurriedly.

The first letter was a gas bill.

The second was a postcard from Aunt Alia to Judy.

The third one was for him. Jon slowly tore open the envelope:

 "Dear Mr. Hart:

I am pleased to inform you that after our discussion, we all agree that you have enough talent and qualifications to study at Eton College and become one of the 247 freshmen of Eton College in 1992.

 sincerely yours.

Tony Rideau (Principal of Eton College)"

"Oh my God!" Jon couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

"How is it?" Eric and Judy asked hurriedly.

"I'm accepted!" He handed over the letter with a smile.

Eric and Judy took the letter and read it carefully. The expressions on their faces changed from nervousness to surprise and finally to ecstasy.

"Jon... honey, I knew you could do it!" Judy hugged her son and kissed him hard on the face several times.

"I will tell all my colleagues and tell them how outstanding my son is..." Eric roared with joy in the yard.

It has to be said that it is a great honor for a student who is not born into aristocracy to be invited to a prestigious school like Eton.
