Chapter 20 - Chp 20

When he returned to the Hufflepuff common room, Jon Hart was holding three thick books in his hands.

"Jon, Professor Sprout has just sent over some specimens. Would you like to take a look?" Ernie MacMillan, a second-year Hufflepuff student, was leaning against the window. When he saw him come back, he shouted.

"Thanks, Ernie... I'll come back later!" Jon declined his invitation and went straight back to his dormitory.

He wrapped the three books one by one with newspapers... Although Hufflepuff's dormitory was single, it was not ruled out that other students might enter his dormitory for some reason and discover the existence of these books.

After all, the covers of several books look very ferocious and conspicuous.

On the cover of the first book was the face of an ugly witch. The witch's eyes were cold and empty, like a dark tunnel, bottomless...and the name of the book was "Shut Down Your Brain".

This was the only book on "Brain Occlumency" he could find after searching in the library for several days.

"Occlumency" is a kind of magic that resists external mental infiltration. It can seal the brain to resist the invasion and influence of thoughts. The iconic spell is "Legitimate Thoughts"... This is also the spell that Jon feels he needs to learn most urgently, no other.

Due to the existence of the "Legitimate" spell, no matter in front of the white wizards headed by Dumbledore or the white wizards headed by Voldemort, one's thoughts are as transparent as glass and can be seen through by them at a glance, with nowhere to escape.

...

...

As a time traveler who knows the historical events of the next six years, it is extremely necessary to protect my identity and secrets from being discovered... Now I am a small character and Dumbledore has not noticed me yet; but what about the future, what if I attract Dumbledore's attention?

So he needed to learn and master Occlumency before Dumbledore noticed his existence.

Then he turned his attention to the second book.

The cover of the second book showed a twisted, bloody head... The tongue was twisted together, the tear marks under the eyes had turned into blood marks, and the nose was completely turned over... The title of the book below was a little unclear because it was so old.

Honestly, this hideous scene made Jon feel like vomiting, and he quickly wrapped the cover with newspaper.

The spells in this book are all disgusting... It contains many spells that torture people. Although they are not black magic, they are still placed in the forbidden area because they are extremely harmful to people...

The tongue-twisting curse, the ear-turning curse, the skinning curse, etc.; the names of these spells all sound a bit creepy.

Jon had no interest in most of these spells, except for one:

 "Eye Curse!"

According to the record in "Fantastic Creatures and Where to Find Them": "The skin of the basilisk is likely to have the same armor properties as dragon skin, which can reflect spells thrown at it. Only its eyes and mouth are the only weak links in defense."

So the Eyespell was the only spell Jon could think of that could cause damage to the basilisk.

Moreover, the basilisk's eyes are its most deadly weapon. If you can use the eye disease spell to blind its eyes during the battle, it will undoubtedly greatly reduce its strength...

This spell is also the main spell that Jon is preparing to practice during this period.

 As for the third book.

Its cover is equally disgusting: a witch's head with multiple arms sprouting from it, and a person on top of it who appears to have been turned inside out...

Its name was written beneath the illustration: "Powerful Potion".

Powerful Potions contains many dangerous, controversial, and mysterious potions; therefore, the Hogwarts Library keeps the book in the Restricted Section.

I borrowed this book purely out of interest, and as long as it is returned to the library before Halloween Eve, it should not have any impact on the plot.

 …

"Jon, do you want to play Quidditch?" Zacharias Smith once knocked on his dormitory door and asked loudly.

"No, thank you!" Jon, who was lying on the bed with a thick book in his hand, rejected him.

"Quidditch, the more you play, the more proficient you will be..." Zacharias muttered, knocking on the door of the next door dormitory: "Ernie, let's go play Quidditch now!"

Jon spent the entire afternoon in his room reading the books he had borrowed from the restricted area. He was too lazy to even eat lunch or dinner. Anyway, there were still a lot of cakes and cookies in the dormitory that had been brought from the kitchen over the past two days, so Hufflepuff students would not starve themselves.

The brain-occlusion technique was more complicated than he had imagined. No wonder the savior Harry had been "practicing hard" for more than half a year but still couldn't master even the basics. He didn't know when he would be able to come out and achieve some success.

The Eye Disease Spell did give him a bit of a surprise, because it was one of the few spells that did not rely on emotions, so he would not encounter too many obstacles in learning it by himself...but the overall casting of the spell was quite complicated, and he needed to concentrate on practicing for a period of time.

As for "Powerful Potions", he only looked up the content about Polyjuice Potion and Veritaserum. The preparation process of both potions was incredibly complicated, which made Jon feel that he should take Snape's potion class for a month or two and familiarize himself with the preparation process before considering it.

 …

Before I knew it, the whole day of Saturday had passed.

I glanced at my watch and it was almost twelve o'clock in the evening.

"Time flies!" Jon muttered as he prepared for bed.

Suddenly, a strange sound came from the dormitory window.

 Jon frowned and walked over.

The sound came from the cage of the two South African red spiders.

The two spiders were tapping the glass with their head and feet, looking very anxious.

It was clear that they were scared... scared of something roaming around in the castle.

"As soon as spiders sense the presence of a basilisk, they will be afraid and try to escape, because the basilisk is their natural enemy..." Jon has already memorized this sentence about the basilisk in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

"It seems that the door to the Chamber of Secrets has been opened by Ginny Weasley..." Jon's face was solemn, and he thought to himself: "The real plot is about to begin.

Now, it's only Saturday of the first week of school.

I found an old piece of clothing that I no longer wore and used it to cover the glass cage of two South African red spiders...to prevent the noise they made from disturbing me.

Jon lay down on the bed and fell asleep as soon as he closed his eyes.
