I was laid on my bed staring at the roof of my bed without a thought going through my head as men do when I heard the door open.
"Peter come down we got fish ready for dinner." I could hear her taunting me.
Damn you Bella, I can't believe I nearly shed a tear for her. Reluctantly I got up and headed downstairs. Charlie greeted me and sat with us today. Dinner was silent since those two didn't know how to hold a conversation. Yet they used me for entertainment as they looked at my attempts to finish dinner with amusement. The fish was fine but I still missed the taste of meat on my plate.
"Peter could you wash the dishes my head is aching with pain." I could tell her lies a mile away.
"But Bella it's your turn and your as good as new."
"Oh no my baby brother tormenting his poor sister, I taught I educated you on how to treat a lady."
"I fail to see the lady in the room with us."
Charlie chuckled at our banter, "it's fine I'll do it."
I got up from the table, "no it's fine dad I'll clean them you must be tired after all you taught me to be considerate. " I sticked out my tongue at Bella.
"A win is a win in my book." She said cheerfully as she left for her room.
Since when did she manage to beat me at my own game. Forks is having a severe affect on me, my power is waning.
After cleaning the dishes and saying goodnight to Charlie I went upstairs. Like a ritual I said my prayers and turned on my nightlight. As I stared at it trying to fall asleep my mind was filled with thoughts of art class. Alice endless ideas for dresses and gowns made me imagine what she would look like in them. I tried to push those thoughts out of my mind failing miserably until finally, sleep took me.
I slumbered that night surprisingly without any nightmares of Bella's run in with death. Bella woke me up shaking me without a care in the world, "hurry up Peter, today's the trip to the greenhouse."
"Five more minutes Bella."
"Get up and shower or I won't make you breakfast."
I stumbled to my feet and retrieved my average outfit of a black, white or grey shirt and pair of jeans with a black sweater. After showering I went downstairs for breakfast before heading to school.
When we arrived at the parking lot, this time Bella was flanked by Mike to which she gave me a helpless gaze asking for help behind her brown eyes. Remembering last nights dinner I left her in her time of need with a smirk. I aimed a quick glance to the Cullens who were huddled around their silver Volvo and Jeep Rubicon, it seemed they didn't bring the red Mercedes convertible today.
Eric waved at me from a far, he's probably the closest person I've been able to call a friend. I walked over to him and talked about his excitement for the greenhouse and how he would take photos. The bus arrived and I hurried him on before Jessica could come out of nowhere to take me to the abyss. I lost sight of Bella on the bus but knew Mike enough to know nothing would happen.
Arriving at the greenhouse, I got of the bus seeing Bella waiting for me. She had an annoyed expression on her face to which I feigned ignorance to. She gripped my sweater and pulled me to the side to make sure no one would bother us we toured the place.
It only took a couple of minutes before a voice appeared, "Bella would you mind talking for a moment." It was Edward who surprisingly appeared interested in my sister. I had a thought about him being a manipulator who'd use Bella for a night out. "Don't worry Peter I just want a chat with Bella take it easy. "
I frowned at how he guessed my thoughts, before I could say anything Bella spoke, "it's fine Peter."
Like I didn't exist she walked ahead of me with Edward and they were stuck in their own little word. Suddenly a silvery bell-like voice appeared next to me, "it's funny how your siblings ignore you and then do exactly what you said they would." Said Alice.
I felt my hand twitch seeing Bella walk away and saw her spare a glance at me with a smirk. Then a large hand gripped my shoulder, despite being 6'2 I sensed a massive bear behind me. "You must be Peter, I've heard a lot about you. Come let's go see the tomatoes." He said while giving me a smack on the back that caused me to walk three steps ahead in order to take in the force.
I made a note in my head, today was the day Bella fed me to the wolves for a chat with a dude she knew for a day or two. As if he could hear my thoughts Edward gave me smile before turning his attention to Bella.
"So Peter tell us how you've been finding Forks compared to Phoenix." asked Edythe somewhere behind. I started doing mental exercises in my head, if I don't look they ain't there just voices in my head.
"Forks is fine." I said trying to walk away from them.
Before I could get a step in an arm wrapped around my left arm. In an amusing tone Alice spoke, "Peter I heard Bella was going to Jacksonville did you know that before making a bet with me?"
My heart started to sky rocket from the connection, despite wearing a sweater I could feel her cold touch. She was freezing and my hand began to twitch uncontrollably. I felt an odd calming presence fall over me that managed to calm me down yet my had still twitched every now and then.
Another unknown voice I hadn't heard before spoke on my left side, "you nervous pal? I assure my sister Alice wouldn't bite you." Said a voice that I could only guess belonged to Jasper.
I turned to him frighten by the motion of not
being able to tell when he got so close when it hit me, the same golden eyes I saw before. They were staring right at me and I felt my surroundings darken. A man appearing in my vision with a yellow glow in his eyes, his crooked smile spreading across his face.
I twisted away from Alice's grasp and sprinted away until I found Bella outside next to our bus. It seemed she had a disagreement with Edward. I pulled her arm, "what now Peter." She said irritated until she saw my face.
"Whats wrong Peter?"
"Please Bella can we get on the bus."
Thankfully she listened to my plea, as we got on I could hear the voice of Alice saying something behind us. I ignored her and just closed my eyes when I got on the bus. Bella didn't say much, only holding my twitching hand which was enough for me to feel safe. Thankfully our bus arrived first at school, we headed straight for the truck to go home.
I barely said hi to Charlie and went straight to my room. Even though it was the afternoon I turned on my nightlight and stared at it while holding my legs to my chest on top of my bed.
Bella sat next to me before I realized she was in the room. "What happened Peter?"
I took a couple of seconds to answer, "I don't know Bella it's just the Cullens. Their golden eyes are off putting at times. They give off an uncanny feeling you know?"
"Is that really all?"
We sat there in silence, it wasn't the first time this happened before. What I was most grateful for was Bella's patience with me, thanks to that I trusted her with my life. I finally opened up about my outburst, "their eyes, it brings me back to the cell Bella."
She nodded and hugged me gently, "get some rest, I'll convince dad to get us pizza." She got up and kissed my forehead before leaving.
That night I struggled to sleep, every time I neared falling asleep I felt as if a sleep paralysis demon would appear. From exhaustion I slept without noticing only to be awakened by my alarm for what felt a second later.
It was Friday and I got up to get ready but found out I lost my sweater. I had to use a bright red one instead. The school day went by fast until I got to the cafeteria. I arrived late and saw Bella with Edward at the line of food. Eric waved at me to sit, I did so without even sparing a glance to the Cullens. "So what do you about going to La Push Peter?"
"La Push?"
"Yes Peter, you know the beach? Bella agreed to go."
"Fine I'll got but if the water is freezing don't expect me to get in."
"Let's go! We'll pick you up around midday tomorrow. "
The rest of the day went by until art class. I stood outside about ten feet away. Yesterday's events were still fresh in my head and as cowardly as it was I decided to skip class.
I went outside and walked until I found a bench to sit on. All I did was watch the street in front of the school until someone sat on the other side of the bench. I could tell it was Edward from a quick glance at his bronze hair.
He decided to break the silence, "why did you run from my sister?"
"It be more accurate to say it was Jasper."
"Jasper? What did he do?"
I tried to repress my memory on the matter but Edward kept interrogating me, "did his gaze frighten you or was it his manners of speaking."
"No it's was his eyes, your golden eyes now stop asking me pointless questions."
"Pointless, I'll have you know my sister was stressed all night thinking about you."
"Well I don't interrogate you after lingering around my sister, in my mind your nothing but a problem."
He shut up after mentioning Bella and we returned to siting down in silence. To which he again decided to break, "your sister is just an enigma to me, despite you being an open book I just don't understand your Bella's thoughts."
I groaned at his statement, "it doesn't take a genius to know she fell for your charms even though you look an ass hole. "
"Pardon?"
"Did I stutter?"
"Ha well I'm surprised my sister decided to take care of a lost puppy or should I say rabbit."
"Listen here prince charming, I rather wake up in the woods with a bear then you."
He laughed at that, "you most definitely would." And we returned to silence.
Like clockwork he broke it again, "so when are you going to apologize to my sister?"
I mumbled a quiet insult which would have been impossible to hear, "annoying prick."
He chuckled at that in amusement, "at least mines bigger."
"My balls are bigger then yours, I'm surprised you haven't run away from the conversation."
"Ha, fine I'll let you win this time Mr Swan, but please send her a message, here's her number." He gave me a piece of paper and got up to leave.
I was left there with a smile knowing he left the conversation like I said and as if he could hear my thoughts he yelled from a couple feet away, " I'll tell my sister you admitted to being fun sized."
That fucker I swear he gets on my nerves without even having those golden eyes of his. I twirled the piece of paper in my hands until I heard the bell ring and headed for the parking lot.
Thankfully the Cullens hadn't arrived yet and Bella drove us home. I did homework and ate dinner before heading to my room. The piece of paper was in my hands and I inputted the number into my contacts on my flip phone. I stared at it for a while unsure of what to type, do I just say sorry or lead with a pleasant greeting.
'Hey Alice it's me, Peter. Your brother gave me your number and just wanted to say sorry for leaving you at the greenhouse.'
Only five seconds passed until I got a answer, 'buy me flowers or I won't believe you.'
I felt sweat falling down my head, isn't that too much between friends?
'Alice you do know that's more reserved for close relationships right?'
'And?'
I wanted to say we weren't that close but a knot in my stomach formed, it was the worst one yet.
'Fine I'll get you roses.'
'Good.'
She didn't message me anymore and I finally felt relieved that I managed to get that out of the way. Oh fuck now I'll have to ask Bella to drive me to the florist before Monday.
