Hazel was not a typical witch or child by any means and maybe this earned her some resentment from her peers.
Well because she was not typical and she was a diviner she knew when someone was genuine with her. Her first true friend, besides Michael that is, was Evervine.
Evervine had an innate ability for transfiguration and she was very good at it and a quick learner. Hazel met her one day when they happened to meet at one of the training rooms. Hazel was there to work on travel magic and Evervine was there working on transportation.
Both were alone and both ignored the other. Once they ignored each other for a while they became intrigued with each other so they kept surreptitiously looking at what the other was doing and began to understand how powerful the other was.
This went on for a few weeks and suddenly they decided to speak to each other at the same time.
"Your transfiguration is outstanding."
" Thank you. You are probably the best traveler I have ever seen, besides your father of course."
"Thank you."
And, as the purest oddballs that they were, they simply returned to their practice. But after that day they had meals together and studied together.
After Evervine there was Marcel. All he ever thought about was potions. They first met in potions class and when she was taken out, to focus even more on divination, Marcel sought her out and even told her that he needed her as a friend and sighted how long it took him to find her as the reason why.
Michael would always be her best friend but it felt good to have friends that were so similar to her.
But nothing is ever perfect and even if your world is perfect there will almost always be someone there to ruin your perfection.
The three were sitting in the main dining hall of Star Academy when Hazel got a faint sense of foreboding. They had only been friends for three weeks but both Evervine and Marcel knew that something was wrong with Hazel.
"So. Why don't you just drop out of divination class you fraud!!? Better yet return to your dimension why would you want to disrespect the dimension with your presence."
"Is that the best she can do?" Marcel looked at her appraisingly then he looked to Hazel. "Has she ever done better than that?"
"Of course she hasn't Marcel. If she had she would have walked over here by herself not with a small posse."
As they discussed Elspeth Evervine and Marcel continued eating. Elspeth on the other hand merely stood staring at them in stunned silence. It was rather comical. Especially when Elspeth and her "peeps" silently walked away.
Hazel leaned back in her chair and understood what luck was like. She was exceedingly lucky to have these two as friends.
Professor Sing had gone absolutely crazy. She had Hazel removed from all of her classes so that she could completely focus on divination. She was able to achieve this simply because the entire academy staff knew that Hazel did not need any classes until maybe fifth year and that was only if she did not continue studying and practicing on her own. Which would never happen.
The room was brimming with energy in the divination class room. Suddenly Rosa stood and her crystal ball went flying. Her eyes went wide as she realized her mistake. Hazel raised her wand and stopped it just as it was arcing toward the ground.
Rosa spun on her. "I do not need your help! Why are you here? Why are you pretending to be a fatetress?!"
Hazel said nothing and simply blinked at the outburst. Something was desperately wrong with Rosa for her to break character so drastically and in front of Professor Sing.
All she could do was hope that Michael was okay.
"Ms. Ambrose I do not know what you saw, think you saw, or what could have possibly caused this outburst but you will either sit down and collect yourself, or you can leave this classroom and go sit in my office and wait for me.
"Either one you choose you will apologize to Ms. McGonagall this instant."
As Rosa stood fuming Hazel returned her crystal ball to her desk. Rosa forced a wide smile onto her face.
"I apologize Hazel. I have had a stressful week and I took it out on you when all you did was help me. I am truly sorry."
Her apology was sincere. Hazel felt the truth of it but a vision came, unbidden, to her at the same time. She saw Rosa speaking to someone in her family, someone important but not her parents.
"She believes that she is a fatetress."
"Does she? What clan is she from."
"She is not from our dimension she is of En."
The person was visibly shocked. "That dimension has become too weak. You are right this child must be a false seer. We will handle her. What is her name?"
Rosa smiled. "Hazel McGonagall, but her surname is originally Peters I think."
The person raised an eyebrow. "You think? You do not know?"
Rosa frowned. "No."
"Then this girl may be genuine. She can stop divination and make herself blurred to other seers. These are characteristics of a fatetress. I tell you this only once. If she is a fatetress you will bow down to her and you will give her the respect she is due."
Hazel felt Rosa's fury as the scene changed. It was Michael and he was completely naked and Rosa stood over him with a horrible smile on her face. Hazel wanted to look away but she knew she couldn't. She had to understand so she could figure out a way to help Michael. He whimpered on the table. Trace was on one side, and another boy, with milk chocolate skin, was on the other and Rosa was at Michael's feet.
"You are mine. Do you think I let anything that belongs to me go? No. You are stronger than both of these fools put together and I will not be denied your power."
She looked to Trace fiercely and he shuddered.
"Do not worry about what happens to Hazel." She looked back to Michael and her hand moved over his feet. He whimpered again, in pain, as tendrils of smoke rose from the soles of his feet.
Hazel's eyes went wide and she began to search the room. She wanted to know every detail of it. She felt the vision pulling away from her and she doubled her effort to know.
And then it was gone and Rosa was standing before her with a pleasant smile on her face. Hazel knew she had seen all of that in a blink of an eye. She had been getting visions for so long she was able to allow them to pass her quickly so others would not know she was having a vision.
In other words she never fought it and she never tried to understand it. She merely allowed it to play out with the goal of understanding later.
Without skipping a beat Hazel replied. "It's okay Rosa. I understand what stress can do."
She replied honestly and turned her gaze from Rosa. Keeping her mind blank fully knowing that she was now going to put her full attention into divination.
Both Rosa and Professor Sing felt the change slide over Hazel, like water smoothly gliding over glass. They did not know what it was but they knew it was something profound or even beyond them.
Both Evervine and Marcel looked at Hazel expectantly. Hazel merely ate her food. She knew that the entire school knew about the incident in divination class so she understood their concern.
"It is nothing."
They both narrowed their eyes.
"It is nothing?!" Marcel fiercely took a bite of food and Evervine pursed her lips.
"Do calm down Marcel." She looked to Hazel. "We are your true friends Hazel. Rosa is not to be played with."
"No she isn't. Look at what she has done to Michael. I have known him all my life and this is not him."
Hazel looked at Marcel and how he continue to aggressively shove food into his mouth. Hazel had known that he and Michael were cousins but she felt like no one, but her of course, noticed how he had changed.
"The whole family has tried to talk to him and nothing. He just smiles." He sighed in frustration.
"It is because she is a succubus. Well she is not one really but because she is a witch her heritage has revealed itself through her internal magic flows. She has succubus mana instead of regular mana like you and I." She calmly ate but on the inside she felt like she had betrayed a confidence. Was she no better than Rosa?
Both Evervine and Marcel stared at her for the longest time. Evervine looked to Marcel.
"A succubus makes sense. I remember Michael in transfiguration class. He was absolutely superb."
"Superb?" Marcel looked at Evervine with a strange expression.
Hazel merely continued eating.
