Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Her last date

ODETTE'S POV:

I showered and changed out of my school uniform and into dinner attire.

Like my mother, I wore of doll dresses, except, I like black and red, not white and pink.

I had a date with my perfect beau. Dressed to impress, I wore a black dress that buttoned down the center, and puffy sleeves. My collar had frills that hugged my neck and a red rose in the center of my chest. I left my long white hair down and clipped in two matching red roses on either side of my head. Putting on my black heels and a little bit of make up: eyeliner, eye shadow, and lipstick before I left the bathroom to meet Kalvin at the front of the school for our date.

There he stood at the entrance to the school. Kalvin was buff and tall, his embrace felt safe, he was like my anchor, when everything would go wrong, he was but still my heart had this ache

"Are you ready?" Kalvin asked me in his tender voice. He was the soft inside to my hard exterior.

The minute Kalvin saw me walking down the school's steps toward him, I could see his heart melt in his chest.

"More than." I replied, a smile stretched across my face.

"You are just so beautiful; I can barely breathe when I'm around you." He always knew how to make me blush.

We drove downtown. Lights adorned the trees in rows that line the roads. It was bustling and lively with people. I loved coming down here, it was such a picture-perfect place. I'm a big fan of sushi, so Kalvin took me to the best sushi place in town.

The set up was inspiring, the table was lit by candlelight, the tablecloth was white with gold embroidery. Even the napkins were embroidered.

The server came up to their table and took our order quickly.

I had this unsettling feeling settle over me, hanging off my shoulder. I couldn't shake it; we were being watched. I looked around but couldn't really place where the feeling was coming from.

"You, okay there, you look a little lost?" Kalvin asked pulling me back into the moment.

"Yeah, I'm fine, sorry, I guess I just got distracted a little, the view here is amazing. Thank you for tonight." I smiled attempting to reassure Kalvin; however, I wasn't sure if it worked.

When Kalvin looked at my face it was with love and longing, he always felt like at any moment I could be ripped away from him, he knew he would grow old, and he would die long before me. Yeah, he thought I could have him changed into a vampire, but I loved him as he was. I wanted to change nothing about him. So, I wouldn't, I refused every time he asked.

"I want you to live, to grow old, to experience life in a way I can't. Eternity is a long time." I would say. It always hurt me to reject changing him. In reality, it wasn't just me being selfish and wanting him to stay mortal, I wasn't capable of making the change happen for him. I was a different kind of vampire. And I didn't have the heart to tell him my great grandmother forbid it. And as the queen of the damned, her word was law for all of us vampires.

Our table was nice and near a window, giving us an enchanting skyline and view of the city from above, dinner was incredible, not just food or the view, but having this moment with him, my Kalvin. Soon after I finished my meal, we were waiting on dessert. Kalvin stood up and gazed down at me with such deep affection, getting down on one knee he opened the box showing me the ring inside, I covered her mouth, tears filled my eyes, I started to cried, this was finally happening. I waited all my life for Kalvin to marry me. I might be cold to everyone else, but to me he was the very definition of warmth, he was my sun. Kalvin slid the ring on my finger and I collapsed in his arms.

I grabbed his face, my lips crashing into his with a deep possessive passion. He pulled me closer, running his hands up my back. His tongue circled mine, dancing in harmony. The kiss lasted for what seemed like eternity before remembering we were in public. Parting I couldn't help it blushed, I've never been public about my affection with Kalvin before, this was the first time I've done more than hold hands behind closed doors.

When Kalvin took me home, he followed me inside to see my parent's King Asher and Queen Violet and ask for their blessing.

Kalvin and I grew up together, we have another part of their trio, Delilah. Our parents went to school together and they're all still friends. Kalvin's mom was Arya, my mother's friend and his dad, Roland, who was, according to my father, "a part of the group" and there was Delilah, her cousin. The daughter of her mother's best friend Rosa and Uncle Jeremy. It was always Kalvin, Delilah, and me, the three of us were always inseparable.

Delilah had transferred to a new school, one for arts. So she wasn't around as often as she was when we were kids.

My mother came rushing to greet us first, "Oh my darling daughter she has found love." She ambushed me smothering me in a love filled warm embrace. My mother was over the moon, I was in love.

My mother looked back at her lover, husband and king, Asher, her smile so full and her heart felt so happy. I could see, she always hoped this day would come.

My father appeared displeased, as always, but he wasn't, the man just didn't smile much as is.

I could tell, he was already thinking about his grandmother, Lilith, raising hell for letting her great granddaughter marry a mortal man. My father didn't care though, as long as his little princess was happy, he'd make it work. My great grandmother would just have to get over it.

The room was filled with a lightness in the air that made it easy to feel at home. Despite my father's aloof personality and dismissive demeanor, my mother could always brighten a room. When she drew people's energy, they would feel a sense of euphoria.

And that's what she does when she feels deeply about things, she eats. The gluteness woman, I still need touch to eat, I can't absorb any energy without touch, and my touch makes people sleepy.

Today had been way better than I could have dreamed. I beat that bitch Raven, which made me the top trainee graduate from the New Moon Academy, I gets to perform my dance on stage and most importantly, my father was proud of me. He praised my agility and strength and critical thinking. My father looked at me, beaming with pride. Ever since what happened with my mother, his hatred for wolves had become unsatiable. So, beating her was the only option in his eyes, if there was ever a reason my father would lose his temper on me, it would be losing to a mut. But the highlight was my childhood sweetheart and boyfriend proposing to me.

Thinking about the day's events helped me completely forget the dread I had about starting at a new school.

I was exhausted from today and fell asleep with a smile on my face. The largest smile I've had in a long time.

I found sleep quickly and my dreams were almost too kind to me.

However my peaceful slumber was disturbed by erratic banging on my door.

"Wake up sleeping beauty, you have your graduation ceremony, don't tell me you're going to be late to your own show?" It was Uncle Oliver banging on my door.

"Ugh go away Oliver!" I yelled from the bed, dragging my comforter over my head and groaning.

"Not a chance sweetheart, your mother asked me, personally, to get you from bed." Uncle Oliver sounding as dramatic as ever.

I groaned rolling out of bed, dragging my feet to the door opening it, my glare seared into Olivers eyes.

"Ouch princess, you're gonna kill someone with that glare one of these days." Uncle Oliver teased

"Better hope it won't be you." I bit at him.

"You wouldn't dare; I'm your favorite Uncle!" Uncle Oliver brought the back of his hand up to his forehead and pretended to faint.

"Who told you that lie?" I snorted, letting my Uncle Oliver in.

"Why your mother, of course! I am her favorite brother-in-law after all" Uncle Oliver continued with his grand charade.

"My mother looks all innocent, but she is truly a master manipulator." I smiled at his lighthearted joke.

"You realize that statement, is truer than it is a joke." My father casually mentioned leaning in the doorway, tossing a box to Uncle Oliver "She can control other vampires with her mind." A devilish smirk stretched across his face telling me about how incredible my mother is.

"Yeah, I know, and I can control objects and people." I am sick of being compared to my effortlessly perfect mother.

"Barely. Work harder." My father Asher stated coldly, before turning and leaving. He has never been good with expressing himself, he has the emotional intelligence of a squirrel, and because of that I knew he meant it to be encouraging.

I hated how right he was; would I ever hold a candle to her mother's incredible abilities? It felt like no matter how hard I worked, how hard I trained, how many hours I spent, I couldn't be as good as my mother. It made me feel defeated. My mother was such a formidable vampire.

However, quitting wasn't an option, I would get better, get stronger, and finally crawl out from under my mother's devastatingly large shadow.

"Burrr." Uncle Oliver shook rubbing his arms imitating being cold. "I think you're more like your father, than your mother. Yikes. He's always been that way."

I shot my uncle a venomous glare.

"Okay, okay. Your mom sent this for you to wear today. She said you'd love it. Your uncle Jeremy picked it out." Uncle Oliver rolled his eyes when he said his brother's name.

I realized what it was her uncle was carrying the moment he mentioned my Uncle Jeremy.

"No, he didn't!" I squealed, practically flew across the room at a speed that caught my uncle off guard, losing his balance only slightly for a second.

I snatched the box and rushed to my closet quickly shutting the door. I heard a knock on the door, just as I entered my closet, when my uncle answered it, I heard Kalvin, was standing waiting outside the door.

My uncle liked Kalvin, enough; but in his eyes, no one would be good enough for his favorite niece.

Coming from my closet I revealed my gift from Uncle Jeremy. It was a stunning red and black Lolita doll dress. The top had a low heart shaped neckline that complimented my breasts perfectly and off the shoulder sleeves. The dress had a black corset that V-shaped in the middle. And the skirt had several layers of ruffles.

I had a collar made of black lace with a single red rose in the middle. With matching red rose earrings and hair clips. My long white hair hung wildly down her back. My make up was flawless, adding red eyeliner to my usual black gave my red eyes an extra dramatic flair.

I was positively awe inspiring. Kalvin sucked in a deep breath without realizing it. His jaw practically hit the floor. He looked at me I was the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. Like I was all his.

My eyes widened in surprise when I saw Kalvin standing in my room, holding flowers and a cup of coffee, looking as dashing as ever. His bright scarlet, orange hair and piercing blue eyes were complimented by his white suit, a stark contrast to my dark dress. We looked like perfect complimenting opposites. Completely in love.

Once everyone was ready everyone headed out, a large entourage followed the family from the estate heading to New Moon Academy for my graduation ceremony.

This was it; this was my big day. I would be receiving her award for top trainee at the school and seeing the look on that stupid dog's face when I would walk on that stage and accept that award, was what fueled my victory.
