Ben holding Kate's arm starts to run back to the place they call home.
"Hurry, mother will scold us if we are late again"
As they approach over the hill, they see lights starting to go out across the temple grounds.
"Shit, we have to make it home before the lights fall. I really want to eat today."
As they run closer to there bland metal home, the lights diminishing all around. Hurrying Ben yells "Wait we're right here. Please! Don't close it".
They both crash through the door as it was about to close. As they get there footing they face upwards to find Mother looking down at them then back at the door they busted through. "You two" she said looking almost infuriated. "Ahh!! How many times have I said get here BEFORE the door closes.
" Ben looks up with a half smile half smirk "Well technically the door wasn't closed yet".
Mother now fully infuriated looks back at him and says "don't test me or you aren't getting your means tonight. Either of you"
Kate looks down shyly "I.. I'm sorry"
Mother looks down, with a sigh she says "At least you made it home safe. Now get your butts to the table before I chance my mind about giving you a meal tonight. It's almost midnight so I'll be turning lights off. The rest are already in bed so hurry up".
"Ok Mother" they both say as they start to eat. "I'm sorry I got you in trouble" Ben says to Kate looking down.
"It's fine. We made it didn't we" as she says that they continue eating in silence.
They finish up eating and head to bed like Mother told them. But Kate stops in the middle of the hall.
"Ha Ben what do you think is beyond the wall" Kate askes seemingly out of the blue.
"What do you mean" Ben says looking a little confused.
"Like what's beyond they wall, we're told not to get close to it but we're never told why."
"I don't know, I mean everyone has speculated but only the temple masters really know. What's with the sudden interest I thought you didn't want to leave" Ben said stopping in front of a window as they walk by.
"Outside is dangerous but I think we could make it. Like I said I've been planning to leave for a while now anyway. I'd just like it if you came along".
"What if I'm scared" Kate says.
"Scared of what" Ben replied.
"Leaving" Kate says staring through the window with Ben.
"You don't need to worry I'll be with you. I have a feeling I'll atleast get a bond. And who knows if I awaken I could leave whenever we want to and no one could stop us."
"Yeah maybe" Kate says staring out the window into the dark sky. "But what if it's not just the darkness that's beyond the walls. I've heard guardsmen talk about beasts far scarier then any bond holder".
Ben scoffs "They are always just drinking at the height of the walls. You can't trust anything those drunks say. They probably make up stories just cause there bored up there all the time. Why do we even need those guards anyway".
"But what if there actually is something" Kate says.
"I don't know, but I know you won't have to worry. I won't let anything harm you. Not a monster and especially not those shamans that think sacrificing us will appease a crappy god"
as soon as Ben says that they see a light on the top of the wall. "What's that" they look at each other confused
"that's probably just a gaurd doing something stupid while drunk".
Another light appears on the wall but it's different it's bright, brighter then there sun. "What is that-" before Ben finished speaking the light goes out. Then almost in the same instant a flash.
BOOM
In one second an entire portion of the wall disappeared. The shockwave blowing out windows and pushing both Kate and Ben to the ground.
Ben in shock gets up feeling disy and out of it. He looks around to see Kate on the ground. Glass in her arm, and blood leaking into her clothes. Ben scared and confused looks back out the broken window.
"Holy shit!!"
