Year 1235
In a land filled with grass and crops till the eyes can see, lies a one story structure. Inside, A 27 year old sorcerer, teaches a small class of children ageing 9-11 years old. He has white hair and bright yellow eyes. He's wearing vivid clothes, chains, rings and more.
Sorcerer: Among the ways Magic is practiced, Affinity Magic is most common and well known. There are only 6 types of Magic affinities one can possess. These are, in order, Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Gravity and Lightning.
He then puts his hand out.
Sorcerer: Fire users are the most common and are regarded as the weakest.
The sorcerer creates lightning in his hand
Sorcerer: Lightning users are the least common and are the strongest. Although, It all depends on the amount of Mana you possess.
He puts his hand down.
Sorcerer: The weakest and strongest also changes based on other factors but, This is the common trend that is prevalent in our world
The sorcerer stops and glances at a boy with blonde hair, who seems to be enjoying the view of the outside from the window.
Sorcerer: James! Are you even listening?
The Boy turned in shock, The sorcerer went up to him in frustration.
Sorcerer: Tell me James, have you gained your affinity yet?
James shook his head, signaling a no.
Sorcerer: Everyone has already found their and yet, here you are. You really might not be a magic user, James.
James put his head down in shame, The sorcerer turned his back and continued disgruntled,
Sorcerer: The only reason you're even in this class is because your parents are known by important people.
The surrounding kids whisper here and there. James was on the verge of tears. When the classes were over, James ran to his house.
His house was on the outskirts of one of the Major cities, Lorain. It was a 2 story House with a small garden on the side. And a vast land in the back. James's mother, Lisa, a Woman in his mid 40's, with beautiful brown hair and green eyes was sitting in the garden, wearing a muddied apron and tending the garden, when she saw her son come running to her, crying. She kneeled down to James's level,
Lisa: What's wrong James?
James tries to talk through the tears and the rapid breath,
James: Mom, Am I not a magic user like you and dad?
James's mother looks him in the eye.
Lisa: You're just a late-bloomer like me. You'll get them soon, trust me.
His mother wipes his tears and hugs him. James hugs his mother back, his eyes glow with lightning just for a second.
Present Day - 1244
Melaich: WAKE UP!
James gets up in fright. He looks around, he sees that he and Melaich are on the Lakeshore. It looks like Melaich saved James from drowning the Lake. Melaich looks at him, concerned.
Melaich: (worried) Are you alright? Any water in your body?
James gets up using Melaich's help, he's limping slightly. He looks at Melaich with a smile and says,
James: I think… AH, I might have broken my knee…
Melaich: Shit! The nearest town from here is probably about 5 KM to the East. Can you walk a bit?
James grits his teeth and gets up limping, with the left leg folded back.
James: Ah well, There's not much of a choice, is there? I'll walk
Melaich: Do you still have the Gem?
James opens the pouch and sees the glowing Red Gem
James: Yeah
Melaich: Good, Thank god we didn't lose it
While walking, James pondered on a question
James: Wait, what about the horses?
Melaich: We'll get them later. The Demon Parade wont find them
James, with Melaich's help, limped over to the nearest town, Orliave. James and Melaich walk and after almost 3 hours, they see the town entrance. The town looks very busy from afar, with people mostly gathered at its center where a statue is placed. They get to the town and see 2 soldiers guarding the front entrance.
Guard 1: Halt! You shall not pass!
Melaich: Relax, We're from the nearby town and with the Adventure Guild. We got hurt during a mission, we just need a resting place.
Guard 2: Do you have any credentials?
Melaich: I have a pass signed by the Adventure Guild master of the Lorian Village. Let me just find it
Melaich tries to search his pouches and his belts for it
Melaich: Where did I keep it…
Then, James intervenes and hands the guard a scroll,
James: Here you go, You can use mine as verification
Guard 2: Alright, I'll just check it.
As Guard 2 is checking it, Guard 1 asks for their names,
James: My name is James Skylar Mgarth, from Lorian
Melaich: I'm Melaich Vildogord, currently staying at Lorian as well.
Guard 1: Welcome, Mr. James and Mr. Melaich to the town of Orliave
James and Melaich ask around for the town healer and some nice lady points towards the direction. James gives the lady a few coins as gratitude and leaves with Melaich in a hurry before she can refuse the money.
James and Melaich knock on the door of the town healer.
Melaich: Seems like no one is home, should we wait here?
James: *sigh* this is getting troublesome
Just then the door clunks and squeaks, and the door is opened. A young lady with long brown hair and a silky white nightdress fit for a noble opens the door.
Lady: (Yawns) Who's that? Disturbing a lady at such a time.
She takes a look at the two and they exchange shocked faces!
Lady: James! (shock) Melaich is here too!
The lady runs and hugs James and Melaich.
James: OW!
Melaich: That's too tight, Silvie!
Silvie: I don't care! I've missed you both!
She stops hugging and looks at James more carefully.
Silvie: Oh wait, you're limping
James: Did you just notice that?
The lady gets both of them inside the house. It's a well-furnished home with room for two. Silvie makes them both sit on a chair and Treats James's leg using healing runes. James thinks to himself.
James: (In his mind) Silvie. A friend… no, a part of my family. I met her in the orphanage After my parents died and there weren't any relatives I had or knew who Could take care of me. I was lucky to meet her that time and she took care of Me like I was her little brother. It's been a year or so since we met
Silvie stands up after healing James's leg
Silvie: So….
Silvie punches James's arm.
James: What-
Silvie: I see you after a year and you come home LIKE HELL!? How did you get hurt like this? I want answers now!
James: It was on a mission, nothing to worry about
Silvie: Mission?! How many times have I told you before to not take up dangerous missions?!
Silvie looks at Melaich
Silvie: You're his best friend, right? Can't you tell him to not do anything? Stupid?
Melaich: He doesn't listen to me
James: He's the one who gave me that Mission in the first place.
Silvie: WHAT!-
Silvie stared at Melaich
Silvie: Oh, whatever. You never listen. So, tell me….
Silvie sits on a chair herself and looks at Melaich and James all curious,
Silvie: What was this mission?
James and Melaich look at each other, wondering if they should tell her but Melaich understands that she's James's sister and can keep a secret. So, he nods to James.
James explains the whole mission to Silvie. She listens very carefully. After listening to their mission details and how they got hurt. After James finishes explaining, Silvie asks,
Silvie: Red Gem huh…. Reminds me of that old story.
Melaich looks at Silvie a bit confused,
James: Story? (Tired) I can't do this right now
James stands up,
James: I'm not in the right shape or mind to discuss what's what right now.
James looks at Silvie,
James: If you don't mind, can I and Melaich stay here for a day or so?
Silvie thinks,
Silvie: I don't think there's enough space for two people here… What if we do this? One of you can stay here and the other can stay at the inn nearby.
James: Alright, I'll stay here and Melaich can stay at the inn, is that alright?
James looks at Melaich
Melaich: Sounds good to me, I'm fine with anything.
Silvie interjects
Silvie: No, Melaich stays with me and you stay at the inn
James looks at Silvie, slightly confused
James: I'm your brother….
Silvie looks at James angrily
Silvie: AND?
James looks at Silvie and looks at Melaich and understands her intention. He cracks a smile.
James: Seriously?
Silvie: LEAVEE!
Silvie pushes James out of the door
James: Alright, alright
James gets out of the house and Silvie hands him a bag of coins,
Silvie: This should cover the Inn costs, Byee~
She shuts the door on James, who stands on the doorstep, thinking about what to do next. He looks around and sees multiple carriages move back and forth on the curved mud road. He then walks to the next street and looks for the Inn. He goes up to the Inn master who is a middle-aged man with a huge beard and requests a room for 2 days.
Inn master: That's gonna be ten coins.
James: Isn't that a bit too expensive for an Inn?
Inn master: Of course it is, lots of people are coming to Orphelia to meet the Aurelian King is here tomorrow
James, visibly intrigued, asks
James: King Jones is coming here? Why?
Inn master: Oh do I look like a fucking town crier to you? Just pay up
James: Fine, just give me a second.
James looks through the coin purse given to him by Silvie and gives the man a gold coin.
Inn Master: Go up the stairs, it's the first room to your left.
James: Alright, thank you
James goes up the stairs and finds his room. He opens the door to see a small room fit for only one person with a semi-clean bed, a small drawer next to the bed, and a window. He sits on the bed and all the tiredness and fatigue fully hits him and he immediately falls asleep.
He goes back to his old memories he saw in the lake, back to 1235, picking back from where he left off.
