Chapter 12 - Flawless Victory and Rewards

The moment Xie Yanwen announced the start, Gu Zhen charged forward.

He knew about Wu Ruifeng superpower: an E-rank elemental-type, [Wind Blade].

From previous matches, Wu Ruifeng had shown two star skills: Wind Shadow Step for speed and Wind Blade for attack

Gu Zhen wasn't fazed by these attacks because of his other superpower: [Split]

Whether actively triggered or passively sliced in half, it caused him no harm and he could recover instantly. Which meant Wu Ruifeng attacks were completely ineffective against him.

That was the real reason Gu Zhen showed no fear.

Besides, who said the Wind Blade would even hit him?

As Gu Zhen closed the distance rapidly, Wu Ruifeng focused intently and gathered his star power.

"Wind-type Star skills: Wind Shadow Step"

With a shimmer, Wu Ruifeng vanished into a mirage-like blur.

Wu Ruifeng waved his hand, unleashing a cyan wind blade that spun toward him.

Gu Zhen tilted his head slightly, dodging it, but under Wu Ruifeng control, the blade curved back, attacking from behind.

Another wind blade formed in Wu Ruifeng hand, striking from the front.

Sandwiched between two attacks, Gu Zhen remained calm. He stopped moving, observed the trajectory, and sidestepped both blades effortlessly.

The Wind Blades weren't complex. But being caught in a pincer attack often made people panic. Add in Wu Ruifeng watching like a hawk from the side, and it was hard to keep a cool head.

Which was exactly why most would fail to track the blades and get hit.

Frustrated that his attacks missed, Wu Ruifeng launched a third Wind Blade, pushing his limit by controlling all three simultaneously.

Yet Gu Zhen continued to dodge gracefully, drawing closer with each step.

Wu Ruifeng gritted his teeth. He tossed out two more blades and used Wind Shadow Step again to kite Gu Zhen.

But to Gu Zhen, the attacks were laughably slow. He danced through them like a ghost.

In just a few minutes, Wu Ruifeng star power was nearly drained, and not a single scratch had landed on Gu Zhen.

Pressured and desperate, Wu Ruifeng used Wind Shadow Step again to flee.

But this time, Gu Zhen vanished as well—and reappeared right beside him.

Boom!

With a vicious kick, Gu Zhen sent Wu Ruifeng flying off the stage and crashing onto the protective water membrane below.

"Match over. Winner: Gu Yi" Xie Yanwen voice echoed.

Gu Zhen walked off the stage without hesitation.

Originally, he had planned to just exhaust Wu Ruifeng star power for the win. But the guy had kited for so long, he made a fatal mistake—and he capitalized with a single, decisive strike.

After all, low-ranked star warriors didn't have flashy skills.

Only when students like Zhou Xin developed their superpower and learned more skills, with greater reserves of star power, would they truly become full-fledged Star Martial Warriors.

The tournament rewards would be distributed the next day. With nothing else to do, he returned to his dorm and had a good rest.

The Next Day

By morning, the entire academy was abuzz with the results of each classes top student.

Class One top ranker was the expected B-rank superpower user, Gu Lingling.

Class Two champion was Lin Cheng, who possessed a D-rank superpower.

Class Three saw Zhang Changsheng, a C-rank superpower holder.

The rest of the results matched most people predictions.

Except for Class Seven

Everyone had assumed Zhou Xin would win—but against all odds, it was the so-called F-rank "trash" with a unique special superpower who took the title.

Gu Zhen name spread like wildfire across the academy once more.

At that very moment, Gu Zhen was just waking up, still tired from yesterday hard-fought match.

Then, a message from his teacher, Xie Yanwen, popped up—telling him to head to the office to receive his reward.

Without hesitation, he headed to the office.

Two others were already there

Naturally, they were second-place Zhou Xin and third-place Wu Ruifeng.

After being drained by Gu Zhen, Wu Ruifeng had ultimately lost to Zhou Xin.

"Ahem, in recognition of your outstanding performance in the weekly competition, the academy is awarding you each a chance to select a star skill from the skill library, along with star power enhancement potions."

Seeing everyone present, Xie Yanwen cleared her throat and praised them briefly.

"If you're free, you can head to the library today to pick your star skills"

Seeing the three nod in agreement, Xie Yanwen handed them each a Star skill Card and led the group toward the library.

"By the way," she added, "these aren't the same as the basic cards. These ones allow you to choose skills up to D-rank."

"However, there aren't many D-rank star skills on the first floor of the library. If you feel they're not suitable, you can forgo this opportunity, and the academy will provide alternative rewards as compensation."

Recalling the D-rank star skills he'd seen last time, Gu Zhen agreed they weren't ideal for him.

But with weaknesses in every area, he wasn't in a position to be picky.

The group soon arrived at the star skill library and began browsing.

Upon entering, Gu Zhen skipped the physical skill section entirely and headed straight to the elemental section.

What really interested him were the three rarest elemental types—spirit, soul, and space.

He had suffered under a spirit-type ability before, and had never even seen the other two. That only made him more curious.

But after searching the elemental section thoroughly, he found no soul-or space-type skills at all. Only a dozen or so spirit-type skill were present—and all of them were low-rank, F or E.

Not a single D-rank spirit skills in sight.

He browsed through them briefly, but none piqued his interest. They were crude, basic skills—barely worth learning.

Eventually, he sighed and exited without making a selection.

"How'd it go?" Xie Yanwen asked when she saw him come out.

Gu Zhen shook his head and she understood his meaning.

"Alright, give me the star skill card. I'll request alternative rewards from the academy for you.

It might take about three days.

The star power enhancement potions will be delivered to your dorm later."

"Thanks, teacher," Gu Zhen said softly, handing over the card before leaving for his dorm.
