Chapter 2 - Signed in Chains

"That is Lord Christopher's son!" My father yelled.

"I don't care if he is the son of the Mayor of this city, but he has no right to splash water on my clothes and not even show any remorse about it." Ava replied to her father.

She turned back to the man, who is fondling his cheeks and smiling in her direction. His smile made Ava worried for a moment.

"She is really the type of girl that I need. A quick witty lady." He pronounced.

"We are sorry sir; she doesn't always act this way. We certainly don't know what came over her." Ava's mother pleaded.

Ava looked at the man confused. He did not give the type of reaction she had expected from him and most of all, her parents seemed to be scared of his presence.

"What is going on here?" Ava asked, walDamon over to her parents. "Who is this man?" She doubled down on her question.

"He is…."

"You don't have to worry Milik, I will take it from here." The man interrupted.

"As your father has rightly, my name is Christopher Ethan and it appears you are one of those who don't know me." His deep voice had so much authoritative tone to it.

"We are indebted to Mr. Ethan here. He is the one that helped us with the large sum of money that we used in sponsoring your university degree."

Ava's mouth was wide open in shock. She realized that she may have just made the biggest mistake of a lifetime, having to challenge such a high profiled person.

"It is a good thing you are even here. I came to ask for my money and your parents are giving me stupid stories. Now I am a man who don't get easily angry, but when I do, there is bound to be problem."

Ava gasped, when he pulled out a gun and dropped it on the table.

"You must have heard about the Corporate activities in this city and I have no doubt you must have heard about the Holmes's family."

Ava shook her head, trying to recover from her momentary shock.

"My father owns everything and I am bound to sit at the head of the table next." He pulled out a document and dropped on the table.

"Grab a pen and sign the document." He ordered, relaxing back on the couch.

"Document?"

Ava asked, turning her attention to her father and mother.

"We were just discussing about plans to marry you off to this great and noble young man."

"Excuse me? I cannot get married to a man who is bold enough to drop a gun on our table!" She revealed.

"I am not asking you to marry me sweetheart. This roof that you stand under, the clothes you wear and even you, I own everything. You have no choice than to accept." Ethan explained.

Ava turned around to look at her father, the pain in his eyes told her everything that she needed to hear.

"I am sorry Ava. The family was on the verge of bankruptcy when I met Ethan. He is a good and noble man for helping me out."

Ethan rose to his fit, buttoning his long trench coat after he returned the gun to his pocket. "Sign the document and I will be waiting outside for you." He finished off and left.

Ava dropped down to the couch placing her hands on her forehead with her eyes closed. She begins to reflect on her life.

Ava begins to regret her decision of ever going to the university.

What is the essence of going to get a degree, all to end up in the house of a man that is entitled to everything she accomplished.

"Ava, you have to understand what your father is saying. I know you may not like everything but try and sign the document. The Holmes family are dangerous people and if things don't go their way, they can do the most terrible things to people."

Her mother explanation seemed logical, but the reality to Ava meant that she is never going to work and a compulsory marriage to a man, whose ego is too big to handle is really fatal.

Ava opened her eyes and stared at the document at the table. She looked back at her mother and noticed the tears trying to drop from her cheeks and her heart melted.

If this is what it takes to make them happy, Ava knew she has no choice than to sign it.

She stood up from the couch and walked over to the document, staring at the content and seeing Ethan's signature already imprinted.

She looked up at her parents and her father gave her a reassuring smile. Ava goes down to the table and grabbed the pen and signs off the document.

When she is done, she dropped the document on the table and despite the appreciation from her parents, Ava paid no ears to them. She walked away to her room.

When she arrived, Ava once again realized that life is unpredictable and the anxiety of what the future holds for her is overwhelming.

Ava proceeds to pick up her clothes and get her luggages ready. After an hour, she is ready to leave the house.

As she stepped out of the room with her luggage, Ava walked back to the living room where her parents sat down looking moody.

"Thanks for everything you did for me father, but I just want to let you both know that signing my life away to a man like Ethan isn't worth it."

Before her parents could say a word, Ava pushed her bags out of the house.

Ethan stood at the door making a call on his phone. When their eyes connected, Ava saw the smile on his face and it made her angry.

"Don't worry Mr. Milik, your daughter is in safe hands." He looked beyond Ava and addressed her parents, who stood by the entrance of the door.

After she had dropped her luggage at the back of the car, it is time to say her goodbyes. Ava is too emotional to speak that she pulled the back of the door open and entered the car.

She waited for Ethan, who is speaDamon to her parents.

When he enters the car, Ethan turned on the ignition of the car and as he made a turn to leave, Ava looked up at her parents waving at her, before the car zoomed off.

She begins to wonder if she would ever see them again.
