Elwyn's POV,
Dennis and I high-fived, his giggles filling the quiet room. "Mom, look at Anna!" Dennis chuckled, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. Jackie stood nearby, a cold smile briefly flickering across his face as he surveyed the situation. Unlike Dennis or me, Jackie's sense of victory didn't show outwardly, but there was an unmistakable air of smugness in his eyes.
Jackie stepped forward, placing a hand on my shoulder, his touch light but full of authority and protection. "Everything will be fine," he said, his voice calm and detached, as if what had just happened was nothing more than a game. I turned to look at Anna, the woman who had just tried to threaten my son with her venomous words. She, the former lover of my ex-husband, had used every connection she had to hurt Dennis.
Anna lay on the floor, gasping for breath, her eyes filled with panic. But I felt no pity. She had dared to touch what mattered most to me, my son, Dennis.
