The Shadow of the Eighth Tail
The air in the private lounge was still heavy with the scent of sweat and spent desire when the shadows shifted. Kaito had appeared like a ghost, his predatory smile chilling the room.
"Good job, boys," he had purred. "Now... it is time to reclaim what is mine."
Zac and Maverick had dropped to their knees instantly. "My Lord," they whispered in unison, their loyalty absolute even as their hearts hammered against their ribs.
They watched in a trance of horror and awe as Kaito sank his fangs into Aidan's neck. The "Good Fairy" didn't even stir from his exhausted sleep as his life force was drained to fuel a monster. As the blood flowed, a shimmering, ethereal limb tore through the air behind Kaito—the Eighth Tail. The ritual was nearly complete.
The Growing Curse
While Kaito ascended, Jin Ae was fading. The Dalaketnon curse—delivered by the treacherous Mayor—was tightening its grip. Dark, thorny vines continued to weave across her skin, a physical manifestation of a spell that no ordinary medicine could touch.
Catherine had sought the only source of truth she knew: her grandmother. "A Dalaketnon's curse is iron-clad, Catherine," Granny Esther had warned, her eyes reflecting the glow of ancient candles. "It can only be unraveled by the Song of a Siren."
But the cure came with a cost. Catherine wasn't just a girl looking for a friend anymore; she was the heir to a legacy. "You have two months," Granny had commanded. "Then you return to the coven. Your training—and your reign—begins."
The Great Escape
Panic had erupted at the hospital. The Mayor's men were closing in, their footsteps echoing like thunder in the sterile hallways. Ethan, Baekhyun, and Aki were trapped—until a nurse with a familiar, piercing gaze intercepted them.
"You need to move! Now!" she hissed.
"Why are you helping us?" Ethan had demanded, his hand hovering over his weapon.
The nurse's expression shifted, a flicker of the iron-willed Inspector Christine appearing behind the stranger's eyes. "It's me, Ethan. Inspector Red. Christine. Do you really have time to ask about my new face? Move! Use your illusions—mask the girl and get out the back door!"
With the Mayor's hunters at their heels and a Siren to find, the race against time had officially begun.
THE CONTINUATION:
The Barrier
The group scrambled toward the hospital's rear exit, the heavy boots of the Mayor's men thundering behind them. Suddenly, Catherine stopped dead in her tracks. She raised her arms, and with a low hum of power, a shimmering invisible force field slammed into place, sealing the corridor.
"Monday! What are you doing? We have to go!" Jasmine cried, throwing herself against the barrier, but it wouldn't budge.
Catherine turned back, a calm but sad smile on her face. "You need to go. Don't worry about me."
"Catherine, what are you doing? We aren't leaving you!" Ethan shouted, his voice echoing in the narrow hall.
"Kuya Ethan, please," Catherine whispered, her eyes glowing with a faint, otherworldly light. Beside her, the nurse stood perfectly still, her eyes rolled back into her head.
The Vessel
"Miss Christine, let's go!" Baekhyun urged, reaching for the nurse's hand.
The nurse's head snapped toward him, her voice sounding like two people speaking at once. "Remember, I am not here physically. I am merely using this vessel. In a few minutes, my soul will be pulled back to my original body. We don't have much time."
Catherine nodded solemnly. She and the possessed nurse joined hands. Together, they began a rapid, rhythmic chant. A surge of white light erupted from their palms, engulfing Ethan, Baekhyun, Aki, and the sleeping Jin Ae. In a blink, the hallway was empty of them.
A New Dimension
Left alone, the nurse gripped Catherine's shoulder. "You need to see your grandmother immediately. Your training must begin."
"But I thought I had two months," Catherine argued, her breath hitching.
"The Treaty of Peace has been shattered," Christine's spirit hissed through the nurse's lips. "A war is coming, and the Council of Witches demands your presence for your baptism. You have two months, Catherine—but those months will be spent in the Other Dimension, where time flows differently."
The nurse's body began to convulse as the possession started to break. "Cast the spell... now! I can't... hold on... any longer!"
Catherine didn't hesitate. She closed her eyes, visualizing her grandmother's cottage and the gateway to the coven. As the nurse's body slumped to the floor, Catherine whispered the final incantation. With a violent crack of energy, she vanished just as the Mayor's men reached the barrier, leaving behind only the scent of ozone and the silence of an empty hospital.
Nana Amelia's Discovery
Back at the house, Jeff walked in with heavy bags of groceries. "Nana Amelia, I'm home," he called out. He found the old lady glued to the television, her face illuminated by the flickering screen.
She turned around with a warm smile. "Jeff, you're back! How was work? Did my grandsons call you?"
"Not yet, Nana," Jeff replied, setting the bags on the table. "I spoke to Min Joon earlier. He said Ethan, Aki, and Baekhyun are on a mission to find a Siren. I'm not sure I caught everything—Min Joon's Tagalog is still pretty rough."
Nana Amelia's expression turned serious. "A Siren? That's the only way to break a Dalaketnon curse."
Suddenly, a voice on the TV caught her attention. A famous singer was beginning her set on a morning talk show. Nana Amelia froze, then scrambled for the remote to turn up the volume. "The wait is over... they finally got her on the show!"
"Nana, let me prepare the food, then I'm going to get some sleep," Jeff said.
"No, no, I've already made you breakfast. Go to the kitchen and eat," she urged, her eyes never leaving the screen. She began humming along to the melody, but halfway through, she stopped. A chill ran down her spine. "This melody... I've heard this before. A long time ago."
She stared intensely at the singer, noticing a distinct bracelet on the woman's left arm. Her eyes widened. "Melody?"
Jeff poked his head back into the room. "Who?"
"That woman," Nana Amelia whispered, pointing at the screen. "I can't believe she's still alive. And why does she look so young? She hasn't aged a day."
"Maybe she's a witch?" Jeff suggested.
"No," Nana Amelia replied firmly. "She's a Siren—the child of a human and the sea."
The "Tsinelas" Treatment
Meanwhile, in a quiet field outside the city, the teleportation portal spat out the rest of the group.
"Ugh, my head... that was terrible," Jasmine groaned, clutching her temples.
Aki and Baekhyun were equally dizzy, stumbling around as they looked for Ethan. They found him lying still on the grass. "Ethan! Are you okay?" Aki cried, rushing to kneel by his side.
"Baby, I'm here! Let me help you," Baekhyun added, reaching for Ethan's hand.
Ethan, feeling the two of them hovering over him, decided to have a little fun. He let out a weak, dramatic groan. "Oh... I'm so dizzy... everything is spinning..."
"Let me carry you, E!" Aki offered. "Step aside, I'll carry him!" Baekhyun countered.
Ethan sat up slowly, giving them a sweet, fluttering smile. "You guys... you're both so sweet. Come closer."
"Bro, he's going to kiss me," Baekhyun whispered excitedly to Aki. Both men leaned in, closing their eyes in anticipation.
"E, kiss me," Aki murmured. "Baby, over here," Baekhyun added.
"I'll only choose one of you," Ethan whispered. He signaled to Jasmine, who had found one of his stray flip-flops in the grass. She handed it to him with a knowing smirk.
WHACK! WHACK!
"OW!" they yelled in unison as the rubber flip-flop caught them both across the face.
"You guys have time for this when Jin Ae is in a coma?" Ethan snapped, standing up and dusting off his pants.
Jasmine pointed to where Jin Ae lay, still trapped in her deep sleep. "She's not waking up, guys. Monday told me if we don't find that Siren, she'll stay like this forever."
"But we don't even have a lead," Ethan sighed. Suddenly, a small, glowing creature—a Whisperer—fluttered toward him. It buzzed a message directly into his ear. "A message from Nana Amelia?"
After a moment, Ethan's face brightened. "Change of plans! We're going back to the city. Nana Amelia found her. She knows where the Siren is."
A Parting Request
As Ethan prepared to open a new portal, Jasmine stepped forward. "I think I need to head back. My friend is safe with you, and Monday is gone for her training. I feel useless here."
Baekhyun walked over to her and pulled out a worn photograph. "Jasmine, can I ask a favor?"
"Anything, Kuya," she replied.
"Can you find our mother?" he asked, handing her the photo. "Technically, she's Jin Ae's mom, but she's mine too. I've heard Banshees are the best at finding the missing."
Jasmine took the photo, her expression softening. "I'll do my best, Kuya Baekhyun. You have my word."
"Let's go," Ethan commanded, tearing a hole in the air. "The portal is open."
Baekhyun lifted Jin Ae into his arms, and the group stepped through the shimmering light, leaving the field behind.
