Chapter 17 - 17. Wanna Walk Like A Rabbit

I open my eyes with a dazed look.

'These dreams of mine are getting weirder. Well while they are dreams they have actual people in them. People I don't know more specifically. Well I feel like I know them. I don't actually know them though.'

I shake my head and stretch my arms. Only to end up punching my ceiling. Three inches certainly isn't a lot but it seems like it in such a small space. I sigh as I crawl out of my home. I walk over to where I left the elk and dig it up. I cut some pieces off and begin eating.

'Today is the day where I go looking for a new home. I'd like one closer to the river than my current one. I want to take the bush with me as well. I'm no planter but I'm sure it can survive an hour or two out of the ground. It's mostly made of Lower Winter Sprites anyway so as long as it has a constant supply of them it'll be fine for a little while. I think.'

Thinking about the things I'm going to do today, I finish my meal. I take out the horns as well. I toss it around a bit. I plan on using it for something. I have many ideas, but I haven't settled on one yet. Wouldn't make the best shoes, so a weapon would probably be best. Although I have many other things I want to try.

'Ah right, I wanted to try to walk like a rabbit. The only problem is that it's impossible with my weight. Not that I'm heavy or anything. But I am a lot heavier than any rabbit I know of. I'll have to improvise a bit. To come up with my unique way of walking.'

With a new goal in mind I start trying to walk on the snow without sinking into it. My attempts aren't very fruitful. While trying I can certainly sink into the snow less. But when I take another step all my weight is shifted into one spot. This makes me sink further into the snow leaving very noticeable footprints. I contemplate using my magic to help, but I reject it since it kind of defeats the purpose.

I end up back home with a contemplating look. I don't go down into my home since there isn't much of a point. I instead turn around and start walking around. Of course my main goal is to find a nice, new, and spacious home.

'Alright, so I can't walk like a rabbit. It's physically impossible for me to do so. That doesn't mean I can't walk on snow without sinking in. I just need a little more help from the little ones known as Winter Sprites.'

They know I want them to help me with my snow walking, however they don't really know what to do. To be fair I don't exactly know what I want them to do either. After thinking even more, I get an idea.

'When I step I want my weight to be distributed throughout the snow. This way the feet under me won't compact leaving my footprint behind. Ok?'

The Lower Winter Sprites gave me an "Ok!" before surging into the ground. Granted it did feel a bit like cheating, but at the end of the day they are a part of my abilities to. Of course I still do my part. I make my steps as light as possible to make things easier for them. As I take a step they spread my weight throughout one another. Despite this my foot imprint is left in the ground anyway. They start complaining.

'What? Am I doing something wrong? Lighter? No? I'm to tense? That's it right? Well I guess I can try to relax a bit. Not that its easy when I'm trying to make my steps as light as possible.'

After a brief talk with the Lower Winter Sprites we go back into trying. Of course I have to still be on the lookout for a good home. Splitting my attention isn't something I'm the best at, but I can do it to an extent. After hours of trying I stop for a bit. Progress has been made, but it's rather exhausting. Even though I'm not controlling them directly, it still drains me a bit when they distribute my weight among them.

'That looks like it can be a good home. A hole in the side of a small mountain isn't exactly to my taste. Nor is living in a hole in the ground.'

I walk over to the small mountain. Honestly calling it a mountain isn't really right. It's around 70 - 80 feet high and maybe 30 - 40 feet wide. Very rocky and covered in snow. I walk to the entrance of the cave and I immediately stop. I can see a bit inside, and its obvious what this place was.

'Seeing this fur all over the place there's no doubt that something lives here. As for what has fur as white as snow and as big as a boulder? Of course it's a bear. Is it the bear I know and love? Maybe. Am I going to stay around the find out? No, no I'm not.'

With this though planted firmly in my mind I quickly turn and run. Of course it is around the mating season for a lot of the animals in this forest. Moose, Elk, Bears, Birds… Even though I haven't seen a single bird this entire time, they do exist. Either way, making a home around here seems like a rather bad idea. Being close to a bear den is way too dangerous.

After jogging for a couple dozen minutes I slow to a stop. My stamina is something I don't know much about, but it's certainly impressive. Certainly not as impressive as these trees in front of me though. The trees in question are around the same height as the normal ones. However they aren't covered in snow. The leaves are white with light blue edges. The tree bark isn't brown but blue in color. To add onto all of that there are a lot more Lower Winter Sprites here. They seem to be a bit bigger too.

'Ok, this is most definitely some place I'm certainly not supposed to be.'
