Chapter 9 - lie?

There was a silence in the room.

An unknown voice echoed...

"Why are you disturbing my patient?"

A girl with chubby cheeks and slightly curly hair, dressed in a red kurta with a white coat over it, entered.

It was Doctor Shilpa.

Doctor Shilpa had been treating Agastya.

Dr. Shilpa:Agastya! How are you?

Agastya was tense and desperate to know about Ahalya.

Agastya(tears in his eyes):Doctor… please… where is my Ahalya? Please… I beg you.

Dr. Shilpa:Agastya, please calm down. Do you know which year this is?

Agastya:2024…?

Dr. Shilpa turned the calendar towards him. It was 2026.

Dr. Shilpa:Yes… it's 2026. After the accident, you were in a coma for two years.

It was confusing—Agastya had no external injuries, but an internal brain hemorrhage had caused him to slip into a coma.

Hearing this, Agastya was completely shocked.

Dr. Shilpa:Okay, everyone. Please step out. He needs rest.

Due to medication, Agastya slowly drifted off to sleep.

Days Later – Discharged from Hospital

After his recovery, Agastya still couldn't forget Ahalya.

He picked up the phone and called Adithi.

Agastya:Hello?

Adithi:Agastya?! Oh my God!

Agastya:Yeah... hi.

Adithi:How are you? You okay? You sound off. Do I need to call the doctor?!

Agastya:Calm down... I'm fine. Just... tell me...

There was a pause.

Agastya:What happened to her?

Adithi:Who?

Agastya:You know who... Ahalya.

Adithi:(hesitating)Agastya... after the accident, she had a massive blood loss... and...

Agastya:And what?!(he screamed)

Adithi:She... she passed away before the operation.

Agastya:No! No! You're lying!

Agastya(sobbing):Please... Adithi... tell me the truth... I beg you... please...

He broke down completely and fell to the floor in tears.

Even Adithi couldn't control her emotions. She cut the call, unable to bear his cries.

Agastya lay on his bed and cried himself to sleep.

Later – A Knock on the Door

Agastya heard continuous knocking.

He opened the door—Vrinda was standing there.

Agastya:(yawning)Hey...

Vrinda:Come with me.

Without explanation, she dragged him to the hospital.

Agastya:Why are we here? I'm already discharged.

Vrinda ignored him, went straight to the receptionist, and asked for the patient list.

They scanned through the names.

Suddenly—Ahalya.

Agastya's eyes filled with tears. He was stunned... and overjoyed.

Agastya:Is this patient still in the hospital?

Receptionist:No sir, she was discharged recently.

Agastya:Oh no...

Agastya:(to Vrinda)She's alive... Ahalya's alive! Thank you, God!

They were thrilled. But Agastya was confused—why had Siddh lied to him?

At Siddh's House

Agastya rang the doorbell angrily.

Siddh opened the door and smiled, hugging him happily.

Agastya (while hugging):Why did you lie to me?

Siddh saw his teary eyes and understood—Agastya knew the truth.

Siddh:Agastya... I—

Agastya slapped him.

Agastya:You were my best friend. You KNEW how much I loved her. WHY did you lie to me?!

Siddh:Because... she doesn't remember you.

Agastya:What?

Siddh:She lost her memory. She doesn't remember anything—not you, not her parents... no one. Her mind is like a blank slate.

Agastya:(falling to the floor, crying)This is all my fault…

Siddh tried to console him.

Agastya (shivering):Macha... how can I live with this guilt… without her…

Siddh:Nothing is in our hands. Please calm down. You're not fully recovered. You're alive today only because of Adithi's prayers and care.

Agastya looked up in shock.

Siddh:Yes... she stayed by your side every night. Even during the emergency, when there was no blood available—she donated hers to save you.

At the Temple

Agastya rushed to the temple.

There she was—Adithi, in an orange saree, singing bhajans with old ladies.

She saw him, her eyes welled up with tears.

She ran and hugged him tightly, crying with relief.

Agastya:Thank you... for everything. For your prayers... your care. That's what helped me recover.

He gently wiped her tears.

Adithi:How did you know I was here?

Agastya (smiling):I know everything about you.

Adithi:Liar... Siddh told you, didn't he?

Agastya:(caught off guard)Ahh… no no—

Adithi:(laughs)He called me this morning. Said you might come... he knows my Friday temple routine.

They both laughed heartily.

But suddenly, Agastya froze.

He saw someone near the idol… someone who looked exactly like Ahalya.

He rubbed his eyes. She was wearing a dark green and golden lehenga, flowers in her hair… looking breathtaking.

Agastya ran toward her.

He pushed through the crowd—but she vanished.

He searched... but couldn't find her.

Adithi gently took his hand and brought him back home.
