Chapter 36 - Humanity

(You should go read my new novel, Danganronpa: Media Madness. I upload it at the same time this chapter comes out, so you should definitely go read it.)

(Third Person POV)

"Okay, Amery, how the hell did you do that?" James asked, a finger pointed at her. "It was very simple, Master; while I was inside of your body, our souls were in very close proximity at all times. Ever since you've been studying souls, you've been mentioning how different they work compared to Jujutsu Kaisen."

She stuck her arm out, flickering her purple cursed energy on it. "And so when I studied your soul and how your body produced cursed energy, I tried my best to replicate it. I managed to get it down about 2 days ago, but this was my first time ever using it in combat." James stared incredulously at her.

'What the hell, she really managed to replicate cursed energy by studying it? Wait a minute, does that mean anybody could replicate it, or was it just because Amery was so close to my soul constantly? Either way, this could further my soul research by a ton!' James thought, softly biting his thumbnail.

"Well, how about you tell me about this in detail as we walk back, kay'?" James said as he turned around and headed off to the hotel, Amery following by his side. "Sure, Master, but I would like to ask you one question before I tell you." James looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "And what would that be?"

"... How do you be human?"

" James tilted his head. "Amery, you have to be more specific than that; that's super vague."

"I apologize. Master, what do you think makes a human... human?" Amery asked, staring up at James with her emotionless eyes being touched with a hint of curiosity. "Well, that is a very vague question, Amery. But I suppose I'll try to answer it."

He puts his arms behind his head, the bags draped on his back. "To me at least, being human is simply having the ability to think, the ability to have morality, and the ability to think for yourself. If you're missing even one of those things, you aren't a real human." James looks straight into her eyes. "You, Amery, are just as human as I am."

Amery put her head down as they walked for a little bit, their steps being the only sounds for a while. "Then what would be the meaning of life in your opinion?" She asked after minutes of silence. "Philosophical today, aren't we?" James teased with a smile on his face before looking straight ahead.

"Life has no meaning." Amery looked up at James, who was still staring blankly ahead. Hery's eyes were filled with confusion, a rare sight adorning her neutral mask. "Because life has no meaning is what makes it so meaningful. You have no purpose when you pop out of your mother, and you'll never have one if you don't go out and find it yourself. The meaning of life is nothing because you are the meaning of your own life."

Amery looked down at her feet as she walked, an unreadable expression on her face. "... Thank you for your insight, Master." James looked at her. "Hey, don't take what I say at face value. I don't want you to just believe whatever I say; you aren't a slave, got it?"

Amery stayed quiet for a second.

"Yes, Master."

James saw Amery's mood and quickly tried to change the subject. "So, how about that soul stuff, huh? You think that everybody can do that or just you?" Amery slowly perked back up, her neutral mask being put back on but with a hint of understanding hidden in her eyes. "I was wondering about that myself, you see…"

While the two had their conversation, the two Overlords had a very different conversation.

(Scene Change)

"Vox, you damn simpleton!" Alastor said, his smile on the verge of breaking as his hands gripped his staff, his eyes narrowing in a mean glare at the TV man. "All you had to do was kill the damn Jezebel, and I could've gotten you out, but nooo. You just had to run your blabbering mouth and ruin everything!" The radio demon yelled.

Vox slowly got up off the ground, holding his stomach while glaring back at Alastor. "What the hell are you so damn angry for? We can catch her again and just sneak that James guy—" Vox got interrupted by Alastor grabbing him by the collar and holding him up to his face, more fear in his eyes than Vox had ever seen before.

"I'm angry because since I didn't complete my mission, she's going to come." Vox pried Alastor's hands off of him as he looked around like a headless chicken. "Who the hell is she'? Nobody's ever gotten you this scared bef—"

 P R E S S U R E

It was like the weight of Mammon himself had fallen down on Vox's body as he was forced onto his knees with his face pointed on the ground. "W-what the hell is happening?" He asked, immensely struggling just to lift up his head to see what made him like this.

When he looked up, he saw a woman in a purple dress with generous proportions, high heels, and black lips, yet when he tried to look up at her entire face, his mind felt like it was on fire, and he immediately put his head back down. While Vox was reeling with this newfound power on all fours, Alastor was on his knees, looking up at the woman, his smile being much more shaky than usual.

"You were given time, Alastor; you were given orders. I even gave you more leeway than I should, but I still find not an emotional scratch put on that James character, even after I told you to go after his family." She struts over to Alastor, putting her hand under his chin and pointing it at her.

"I guess he really is just too strong for you, huh?" She lets go of his chin, lightly slapping his face twice in a mocking manner. "RaDiO DeMoN? What a fucking joke." She says, walking away as she begins to transform. Her purple dress started to become white, and with a flourish of her hands, a white hat with a feather in it appeared in one and a cane with a snake going through a half-eaten apple in the other.

"If you need something done, you should just do it yourself, Lucifer."
