Chapter 35 - Back off!

Chapter 35

"Ha! Why wouldn't I know about them? After all, they brought us here! And don't even think about prying any information from me—because I won't speak unless you defeat me," the Goblin Lord sneered.

"Fine then," Grey said, raising his sword in front of him. "I'll just have to beat the information out of you."

"Attack!" the Goblin Lord bellowed.

Six elite goblins wielding spears charged at Grey, while another six, armed with swords, rushed at Randin. Without hesitation, Randin unsheathed his blade, his stance firm.

The spear-wielding goblins reached Grey in a flash, far quicker than the usual goblins. They lunged with their weapons in perfect synchronization. Grey narrowly dodged, stepping back swiftly.

'Without my powers, this is going to be much tougher. Damn, I regret using Aerius Ultra earlier.' Grey thought.

He barely had a moment to catch his breath before the goblins attacked again. Their spears streaked toward his stomach. He swiftly raised his sword, parrying the strikes, but the sheer force pushed him back, skidding nearly a meter.

'Damn it! These ugly beasts pack a punch!' He screamed in his head.

Before he could regain his footing, a crackling noise cut through the air. A bolt of lightning streaked toward his face. Grey twisted sharply on one foot, barely dodging.

The heat from the passing bolt stung his cheek.

'Damn… that burns!' he cried out in his mind.

He leaped back just in time to avoid another spear aimed at his legs. Using quick reflexes, he landed on the shaft of the weapon, sprinting up its length toward the goblins. He swung his sword at one of their faces, but another goblin intercepted, blocking the strike.

A third goblin lunged with its spear, aiming straight for Grey's stomach. He barely managed to block it before a fourth goblin leaped into the air and delivered a powerful kick to his face.

The impact sent Grey flying. He tumbled across the floor, rolling several meters before coming to a painful halt.

"Argh! That hurt!" Grey groaned, gripping his face.

Another surge of crackling energy made his senses scream in warning.

"Oh, come on! Give me a break!" he yelled, rolling out of the way just as another lightning bolt struck where his head had been. "Doesn't your spears have a resting time?"

Panting, he took another stance. The goblins charged again, but this time, something was different.

One goblin abruptly halted, acting as a platform while the others leaped onto its back, climbing higher. Then, with tremendous force, they hurled one of their own straight at Grey.

The airborne goblin held its spear forward, its tip glowing with a brilliant blue radiance.

"What kind of tricky situation have I landed myself in now?" Grey muttered.

Grey barely had time to react before the goblin crashed into him. The sheer force hurled him backward, slamming him against the stone wall. A resounding crack echoed through the chamber as fissures spread across the surface.

Dust and debris settled as a figure staggered to his feet. Blood trickled down Grey's mouth, head, and nose.

"Kuh! Kuh!" He coughed, spitting out crimson droplets.

Through blurred vision, he saw the goblins preparing their final strike. They lifted their spears, each one glowing so intensely that their faces were barely visible.

"Finish him!" the Goblin Lord laughed maniacally.

At once, the goblins unleashed a storm of lightning bolts, the air crackling with sheer power. The attacks hurtled toward Grey at blinding speed.

"I hope this works," he muttered, raising his sword with trembling hands.

Closing his eyes, he focused. Slowly, a wall began forming in front of him, rising from the ground, its surface rough yet sturdy. But it was too slow. The bolts were mere seconds away.

Just as the lightning was about to strike, the wall solidified, absorbing the brunt of the attack. Sparks danced across its surface before it crumbled to the ground, reduced to rubble.

"That wall was thanks to the special power infused into this sword by Randin!" Grey declared, now standing directly before one of the goblins. With a swift swing, his blade sliced clean through its neck. The severed head hit the ground with a dull thud, followed by the lifeless body.

Though his mana was depleted, the sword's enchantment—crafted from the crystal core of a beast he and Randin had slain—allowed him to manipulate earth magic. It required immense concentration, but Grey had managed to channel its power.

He had anticipated that the wall wouldn't hold for long. The moment it collapsed, he sprinted forward, catching the goblins off guard. The element of surprise had allowed him to claim one kill.

But that was it.

The remaining goblins reacted instantly. They thrust their spears at his head from all directions. Grey barely managed to block, but before he could counterattack, a brutal kick struck his stomach.

Blood spewed from his mouth as his body was sent hurtling across the room. He crashed into another wall, this time shattering it completely.

It would be a miracle if he was still conscious.

"Finish him completely!" the Goblin Lord barked, his voice tense—despite his order, unease flickered across his face.

Two goblins approached Grey's limp form. Blood pooled beneath him, dripping steadily from his mouth.

They raised their spears, the tips glowing ominously.

Just as they were about to strike—

The spears flickered. Then, without warning, the light extinguished.

The air grew dense. Oppressive. A suffocating weight pressed down on the goblins. Their bodies trembled, every hair standing on end.

A voice, thick with fury, sliced through the silence.

"You know… I still have use for him, so it would be in your best interest to back off, you wretched beasts!"

The entire chamber grew misty as an overwhelming presence filled the space.
