Chapter 36 - A Scary Beast

Chapter 36

Grey was locked in a brutal battle against six members of the elite goblin squad, and without his magic, he wasn't faring well. Still, he held his ground—until one goblin's kick sent him flying across the cave, slamming into the wall and shattering it apart.

"Finish him completely!" the Goblin Lord barked, tension evident in his voice. He was growing increasingly uncertain about the outcome.

Obeying the order, two goblins approached the place where Grey had landed. Blood poured from his mouth as he lay motionless on the floor.

Raising their spears, they pointed them at Grey. The tips glowed a bright, dangerous blue—seconds away from release. But just before they could fire, the spears suddenly dimmed, the radiant light flickering out.

Then, the atmosphere thickened. The air grew heavy, and the goblins began to struggle for breath as every hair on their green bodies stood on end in fear.

"You know," a furious voice echoed through the cave, "I still have a use for him. So it'd be smart if you filthy beasts backed off!"

Mist flooded the area, swirling around as a black vapor rose from Grey's body. From the haze emerged a small red wolf, a single horn jutting from its head. It stood before the goblins, its eyes blazing with fury.

The other three goblins rushed over to join their comrades, brandishing their weapons toward the tiny, menacing creature.

"It would be wise not to attack me… unless you're eager to die," the wolf snarled—its voice echoing in the goblins' minds.

But they didn't understand the human language it used. Without hesitation, they charged at the beast.

One goblin lunged with its spear, but the wolf vanished from its sight—only to reappear behind it, stabbing its leg with its horn and causing it to wail in agony.

In a blur, the wolf dodged a lightning bolt fired in its direction. It retaliated, darting toward the caster. With a swift leap, it plunged its horn into the goblin's eye, bursting it in a spray of gore. Using the goblin's head as a springboard, the wolf flipped gracefully through the air and landed near Grey.

The blinded goblin staggered backward, groaning—until a sharp sound pierced the air. A red beam flashed through the cave and struck its head, instantly killing it.

The Goblin Lord rose from his throne, terror etched across his face as he witnessed the carnage.

'What the hell is going on? Where did that wolf come from? How does it possess this level of power? Did I imagine it… or did it just emerge from the mage's body? This creature... it's truly terrifying.' The Goblin Lord thought in a panic.

Suddenly, Noir—the name fitting for the demonic little wolf—fired another laser beam. His horn started to dim, but an ominous, wicked grin curled across his furry face.

Despite the rising body count, the remaining four goblins didn't flee. Instead, they charged forward, launching more lightning bolts from their spears.

But Noir was far too fast. He zipped across the cave with supernatural agility, effortlessly dodging the barrage of attacks. Eventually, the spears ceased to glow, depleted of energy.

Seizing the opportunity, Noir appeared before the goblin whose leg he had pierced earlier.

In an instant, his body surged in size—growing as large as a small house. Then, in one brutal motion, he chomped down on the goblin's head, tearing it clean from its shoulders.

Two down. Three to go.

He spat the head to the floor, then unleashed a red beam at another goblin, vaporizing it on the spot.

Without budging from his position, Noir fired a fireball at another goblin, engulfing it in flames. It shrieked for a moment before crumbling into ash.

'Hmph. Good thing my fire magic is stronger than that mage's,' Noir mused, casting his eyes toward the last goblin backing away in fear. The Goblin Lord, meanwhile, frantically searched for a way to escape.

"Look out!" someone shouted, and a body was flung in Noir's direction.

Without hesitation, Noir launched a fireball at the incoming figure, incinerating it instantly. He then recognized the scorched dwarf who always accompanied Grey—bloodied and battered, surrounded by shattered swords, shields, and the lifeless corpses of five goblins.

'Well, I'll be damned. The dwarf's not as useless as I thought. He's got his own bite,' Noir smirked inwardly, his eyes now locked on the last standing goblin.

With a bound, he appeared before the fleeing goblin. Without delay, he bit off its head in one savage motion.

As he had grown, Noir now shrank back to his compact form. With that same eerie speed, he dashed toward the Goblin Lord who was now desperately trying to escape.

"I know you understand human speech," Noir said, speaking directly into the Goblin Lord's mind. The creature froze, petrified by the horrifying beast before him.

"Good. Normally, I wouldn't waste a second putting down trash like you. But that kid over there's got questions. I want answers too. So, lucky you—I won't kill you."

The Goblin Lord exhaled shakily in relief.

"But…" Noir's tone dropped as his horn began to glow a sinister red. "He never said he needed you intact, did he?"

A devilish grin spread across Noir's face as he took a step closer.
