Chapter 34 - Beat the information out of you!

Chapter 34

"Well, this just got tricky." Grey sighed, assessing the enemies before him.

"You humans and dwarf think you can invade my domain? You will pay for your insolence!" The goblin lord roared, laughing maniacally.

"Oh!? It can speak human language? This is a first for me," Grey remarked, a mix of surprise and curiosity in his voice.

With that, the goblin lord barked commands in an unknown language, and his army immediately surged forward, weapons raised, charging toward Grey and Randin.

"Attack the intruders!" The goblin lord ordered, and the fifty remaining goblins pounced.

"Earth magic! Sink!" Grey shouted, his hands outstretched. The goblins in front were suddenly stuck, their feet sinking into the earth as if they stood in quicksand.

"A mage? And a powerful one at that?" The goblin lord observed as he watched at least twenty goblins being consumed by the earth.

'Sink allows me to transform the ground beneath them into quicksand,' Grey thought, a smirk curling on his lips. 'One of the tricks I learned from the mage's book.'

The remaining thirty goblins leaped over their sinking comrades, charging with even more intensity.

"Wind magic! Wind blade!" Grey called out, and dozens of invisible blades of wind sliced through the goblins, cutting down those still in midair.

The thirty goblins were closing in.

"I need more time for something," Grey muttered under his breath, panic creeping in.

"I've got you covered!" Randin shouted, charging forward to meet the oncoming goblins. Lightning bolts shot at him from all directions.

'No repeats of my previous mistake,' Randin thought, as a large shield materialized in front of him, absorbing the brunt of the attacks.

'Thankfully, I've learned how to store equipment in my pendant. It may be small, but it can hold enough gear to give me the upper hand when needed.'

With the shield vanishing from his arm, Randin held a spear, the tip glowing with blue energy.

"Recognize this?" Randin smirked, before launching three bolts of lightning from the spear, striking three goblins dead on.

The spear quickly morphed into a sword as Randin parried an attack, his blade flashing as he disarmed and beheaded one of the goblins.

Within moments, Randin was surrounded, and with precision, he summoned a dozen daggers, tossing them with deadly accuracy, each finding its mark in the heads of another dozen goblins.

Seventeen remained, but they were desperate. As one, the goblins unleashed a flurry of lightning bolts—three each—toward Randin. A storm of electric death.

'This is bad. My shield won't block all of this!' Randin realized, desperately raising the shield again.

But then a voice rang out from behind him:

"Move!"

Without hesitation, Randin leaped aside, and a massive earth wall rose where he had just stood, blocking the onslaught of lightning bolts. The wall held, but the force of the strikes caused cracks to form, and it began to crumble.

But against all odds, it held—just long enough.

Suddenly, the air around them began to shift. A gust of wind whipped through the cave, spiraling in a rising vortex.

"Thank you, Randin, for buying me the time I needed," Grey called, his voice filled with gratitude.

'If I push my magic now, my mana will be drained entirely, and I won't be able to use spells or skills until I recover... But this is the moment I need it,' Grey thought, the weight of the decision pressing on him.

His hands rose, and with a sharp exhale, he shouted:

"Wind magic! Aerius Ultra!"

In an instant, a massive tornado of wind erupted from his palms, spiraling toward the goblins. It hurtled toward them at breakneck speed.

Before the goblins could react, the tempest tore through their ranks, throwing them into walls, smashing them through the room, and suffocating the unlucky ones caught in the center of the windstorm. The remaining goblins were thrown around like ragdolls.

The room was filled with the sound of destruction as the 17 goblins were obliterated by a single, masterful spell. As the tornado dissipated, Grey collapsed to one knee, panting heavily, his mana core completely drained.

"Well, that's it. I'm out of energy," he muttered, wiping the sweat from his brow. Drawing his sword, he braced himself. Now, the elite goblin squad was making their move.

"You idiots! You think you can defeat me and my elite squad after killing mere goblins? Prepare to meet your end here. My elite squad is stronger than anything you've faced yet!" The goblin lord cackled, his laughter echoing through the cave.

"They each have the strength of five goblins combined, and there are twelve of them!" he boasted.

"If they are as powerful as you claim, they still won't pose much of a threat," Randin replied confidently.

"You foolish dwarf! You should have stayed hidden in whatever hole you came from. Just because you have a mage's help doesn't mean you can defeat me—or the otherworlders!" The goblin lord jeered.

"Otherworlders? You know about them?" Grey asked, intrigued. Though he already suspected the otherworlders' role in the goblin invasion, he wanted to glean any information the goblin lord might have.

"Ha! Of course, I know about them! They brought us here!" the goblin lord sneered. "But don't think you can pry anything from me about them. You won't get a word unless you can defeat me first!"

"Fine," Grey said, his voice calm but firm as he took a battle stance, his sword ready. "I'll just have to beat the information out of you."
