Chapter 37
"Good! Normally, I would have killed weak trash like you. But that kid over there has questions, and I'm curious about the answers too. So, consider yourself lucky." Noir's voice dripped with malice as the goblin lord exhaled in relief.
"But he never said you had to stay intact, did he?" Noir's smirk widened, and its horn glowed a menacing crimson.
In an instant, a searing laser beam shot out, slicing through the goblin lord's limbs. A bloodcurdling scream tore through the air as it collapsed, now completely immobilized.
"Perfect," Noir murmured before leaping toward Randin, who was barely standing. Blood dripped from his mouth, nose, and forehead. His hands were slashed, and deep puncture wounds marred his stomach.
Noir studied him for a moment, then linked its thoughts directly to Randin.
"Keep an eye on that goblin and protect the kid. If anything happens to him, you're dead."
Without waiting for a response, Noir dissolved into a black mist and vanished into Grey's unconscious body.
Randin shuddered. 'That beast… it was far more terrifying than those goblins.'
Shaking off his fear, he limped toward Grey, scooping the unconscious mage onto his shoulder before staggering toward the screaming goblin lord.
Carefully, he laid Grey down and turned toward the goblin, eyes burning with fury.
"You… you made my kind suffer." Randin's voice trembled, but his grip on his cracked sword was firm.
The goblin lord, despite its agony, smirked. "Kill me. Go on. If you dare!"
Randin pressed the blade against the creature's neck, drawing a thin line of blood. The goblin lord's smirk only widened.
"No. I know what you're trying to do, and it won't work," Randin sneered. "You won't die easily. First, you give us what we want—then you die."
With that, he dismissed his sword, and the goblin lord clicked its tongue in frustration, wincing at its wounds.
Thirty minutes passed. The cave was eerily silent except for the goblin's pained groans. Then, a sharp cough broke the stillness.
Randin's head snapped toward Grey, who stirred weakly. His fingers twitched, and his eyes fluttered open.
"Wh… where am I? And why does my body feel like hell?!" Grey groaned, clutching his head.
"Grey?" Randin called, stepping closer and placing a hand on his shoulder.
In one swift motion, Grey grabbed Randin's wrist, flipped him onto his back, and conjured a small flame, holding it inches from Randin's face.
"What the hell are you doing, you stupid human?!" Randin barked, eyes wide.
"Ra… Randin?" Grey blinked, his vision clearing.
"Yes, it's me, you fool!" Randin growled.
Grey quickly withdrew the fire and scrambled to his feet. "My bad. I thought you were one of those goblins trying to kill me."
Randin sighed, dusting himself off. "It's fine."
Grey's gaze darted around the cave. His wind magic instinctively flared to life, wrapping around him like a protective shield. But as his eyes adjusted, the carnage before him became clear.
The cave was in ruins, barely holding together. The goblin squad—dead. Bodies lay scattered, torn apart.
'The elite squad? Gone? But how?' Grey's eyes narrowed before landing on Randin's battered body.
"Did you… kill them?"
"Heck no! Do I look like someone who could take down twelve elite goblins alone?" Randin scoffed. "I was barely surviving against six!"
"Then how…?" Grey asked confused as he looked around because he could remember that he wasn't able to defeat them all.
Randin exhaled. "Your pet did it."
Grey barely had time to process that before a voice echoed in his mind.
"If that dwarf calls me a pet one more time, I swear I'll put a hole through his skull."
'So Noir did you do all this?' Grey thought, but received no response.
'There he goes with the silent treatment. Wait… is it even a 'he' or a 'she'?'
Shaking his thoughts away, Grey turned toward the goblin lord. "What do we do with this?" Randin asked, motioning toward the creature.
Grey's expression hardened. "We get the answers we need. If it refuses, I won't hesitate to kill it where it sits."
Stepping forward, Grey crouched to the goblin lord's level. Fear flickered in its eyes as it met his gaze.
'This mage… he took down some of my elites, and he has that demonic beast with him. If I refuse to answer, he'll kill me. No—he'll summon that thing again!' The frightful creature thought with a shudder.
The goblin lord had no idea how far it was from the truth—Grey couldn't summon Noir at will. It emerged whenever it pleased.
Grey's voice cut through the goblin's frantic thoughts.
"Now, for my first question—who are the Otherworlders?"
