Chapter 30 - Eye Of The Storm

Kara wandered through Xavier's mansion, her gaze sweeping across the hallways, admiring the high ceilings and sleek, polished floors. It was a nice place. Fancy. Felt like something straight out of one of those old British movies about wealthy kids with too much time and too many secrets. She grinned as she turned to Rogue, nudging her shoulder. "Not bad. I can see why you stayed."

Rogue, always the master manipulator, sighed softly, playing with the hem of her sleeve. "Stayed, yeah. Wanted to? Not so much."

Natasha's sharp gaze flicked toward Rogue, immediately suspicious. Gwen sighed, already bracing herself for another round of victim-playing. Wanda smirked, thoroughly entertained.

Kara frowned. "What do you mean? This place looks great."

Rogue gave a wistful smile. "Looks great. Feels different. They like to pretend it's a home, but it's really just a place for 'special cases' like me. A place to keep me contained. Guess I just gotta be a good disciple for the White Lotus Society, huh?"

Natasha exhaled slowly. Gwen muttered something about needing a drink. Wanda let out a quiet, delighted laugh.

Kara, completely missing the joke, nodded solemnly. "That sounds rough."

Before Rogue could continue her performance, something changed in the air. A shift. A charge.

It was subtle, like the first prickling sensation before a thunderstorm. The hair on the back of Kara's neck stood up, and she turned her head slightly, sensing something—or someone—approaching. Then she heard the sound of footsteps, controlled and deliberate, moving toward them with the confidence of someone who belonged wherever they stepped.

Then she saw her.

Storm.

The moment Ororo Munroe entered the room, Kara felt it. A static tension in the air, like the pressure before lightning struck. It wasn't something visible, but it was there—an unseen force curling around her like the wind before a hurricane.

And Storm felt it too.

Her electric blue eyes locked onto Kara, and for the briefest moment, something inside her clicked.

This wasn't attraction. It wasn't admiration.

It was a strike of lightning hitting the tallest tree in an empty field.

Storm stopped walking, her breath hitching just slightly before she controlled it. Internally, her mind was a whirlwind of rapid thoughts, flickering between coherent realization and something far more unhinged.

This girl… This girl is a storm.

Her fingertips tingled. Her pulse thrummed. Every nerve in her body was singing with recognition. She had felt power before. Controlled it. Bent it to her will. But Kara? Kara was pure, uncontrolled chaos.

She wasn't just power.

She was the perfect storm conductor.

Storm's lips parted slightly, a slow inhale as if tasting the charged air between them. She could feel the storms inside her calling out, responding to Kara in a way they never had before.

Mine.

She didn't know where the thought came from, but it was there, and it was loud.

Kara, completely oblivious, smiled and offered her hand. "Hey, you're Storm, right? Cool name."

Storm stared at her hand for a fraction of a second too long before taking it. The moment their fingers touched, a sharp bolt of energy crackled through the air. It wasn't visible, but everyone felt it—the snap of electricity, the unspoken exchange.

Storm's pupils dilated, her grip tightening just slightly. The power. The raw, unfiltered energy radiating from Kara's skin. It was intoxicating.

She wanted to bottle it. To keep it. To claim it.

She wanted to watch lightning dance over Kara's skin. To see how she would react to a real storm.

She wanted to shock her until she screamed.

She wanted—

She let go before she could spiral any further.

Kara, as usual, noticed none of this. "Nice to meet you," she said cheerfully.

Storm managed a small smile, but inside, her mind was unraveling.

She's perfect. She's mine. I need to keep her.

The others noticed.

Natasha's fingers twitched toward her holster. Gwen narrowed her eyes, already categorizing Storm as a problem. Wanda grinned, watching the growing chaos like a spectator at an arena. Rogue? Rogue recognized another predator in the room.

Kara, still unbothered, turned back to Xavier. "So, do I get the tour, or am I just supposed to wander?"

Xavier had remained silent through most of this interaction, but now, his hands folded over each other as he studied Kara carefully. His mind was still reeling from his failed attempt at reading her thoughts. He had never encountered someone he couldn't at least glimpse into, even with strong mental shields.

Kara was different.

She was a void.

A vast, endless abyss that swallowed every attempt to touch her mind.

And that terrified him.

He finally spoke, his voice smooth but carefully measured. "You are… unique, Kara."

Kara chuckled. "I get that a lot."

Xavier's gaze flickered toward Natasha. "May I speak with you privately?"

Kara raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Am I in trouble already?"

Xavier smiled slightly, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Not at all. Just a private discussion."

Natasha cast a brief glance toward Kara before nodding. "Fine."

As the two stepped away, Storm's attention remained locked on Kara. The air around her felt charged, ready to break into a storm at any moment.

Rogue took a slow breath, stepping just a bit closer to Kara. "So… thinkin' about stayin' here for a bit?"

Kara shrugged. "Maybe. Depends if there's anything interesting to do."

Storm smiled. A slow, knowing smile. "Oh, trust me. There's always something interesting to do."

Kara just laughed.

Natasha, speaking with Xavier a short distance away, kept her expression neutral. "You're worried."

Xavier's tone remained carefully even. "She's too powerful to ignore."

Natasha's jaw clenched. "She's not a threat."

Xavier held her gaze. "Not yet."

Natasha's eyes darkened. "If anyone tries to control her, they'll have to go through me."

There was a long silence.

Xavier finally exhaled. "I was afraid you'd say that."

Meanwhile, Magneto's spies had already sent their reports.

The Brotherhood of Mutants knew where Kara was now.

And Magneto?

Magneto was preparing to meet her.

Back inside the mansion, Kara continued joking with Rogue, Wanda, and Gwen, completely unaware that a storm had already begun forming around her.

And Storm?

Storm was already planning how to make sure she was the one to claim her.
