Inside the moving carriage, Lyra fidgeted with her fingers, stealing glances at Casian from the corner of her eye.
This wasn't the kind of distraction she wanted. The one person she had been trying to avoid was now the one accompanying her, giving her a tour of the market she had expected to visit with Penny.
Tearing her gaze away, she focused on the passing landscapes outside the window. A strange nervousness settled in her chest, and no matter how hard she tried to distract herself or push the feeling away, she couldn't ignore the fact that Casian was sitting right next to her.
After much internal debate, she finally decided to speak.
"You didn't have to come. Penny could have shown me the market," she said in a low voice, her fingers clasped tightly in her lap. She bit her lip, pressing them into a thin line as she waited for his response.
