Tracing her thumb over the scarf, Lyra continued to stare at it in silence until Penny asked,
"Aren't you happy, my lady?"
Lyra's head snapped to the side. She couldn't quite process her emotions, but now that Penny had repeated the same question from earlier, something stirred inside her heart.
She just couldn't understand Cassian. One moment, he was cold and indifferent; the next, he was unexpectedly considerate. The sudden shifts in his attitude left her questioning what was real and what wasn't.
Reaching for her book, Lyra scribbled, "You think it's just the mate bond now that we have—"
Penny's eyes widened slightly. It was obvious that Cassian's feelings might be intensified by the mate bond, but that wasn't the whole truth.
"You think he isn't being genuine?" Penny asked, pursing her lips.
"I don't know, Penny. Cassian's attitude toward me is so difficult to understand," Lyra wrote.
