Chapter 1 - Prologue: Cripple

In the world of Earth 396, where people have powers that was gifted to them by the universe, were ruled by the 12 gods.

Each god has their own Kingdom that they governed, where they put an Academy to teach the kids.

In these Academies, kids at the age of fifteen must be enrolled.

The students in every Academy were to be trained and taught before facing against another students from other Kingdoms through a tournament of magic which was held in every twenty years.

Students who were chosen to participate the tournament was selected through their power and the performance they show in their Academy.

The winner for every tournament will have a seat on the tower of power that serves directly under the gods.

It was year X315 when the last tournament was held.

And in the year X317, Aziel Mateo was born and was left in an orphanage from the outskirts of Roger Russet Kingdom, who serves under Artemis – goddess of the hunt. Aziel grew up to be a brave, courageous, and a happy kid, always like to venture on his own.

He had some friends from the orphanage but Aziel like to go on an adventures and his friends were either timid or afraid to go with him as they fear that the beast might attack them if they venture into the woods.

When Aziel turned six years, he came across an old house surrounded by flowers beside the lake, past the forest where he usually spends his whole day.

"Woah, what a beautiful place. I feel like I'm in heaven. Is this heaven?"

The place feels so unreal but soothing at the same time. The environment was so peaceful that Aziel could hear birds singing. The air was fresh and the flowers danced through the wind.

He then see smokes coming from the chimney of the house, letting him know that someone was cooking inside and he could smell sweet pastry products from the smoke as well.

Aziel's stomach growled, and his mouth began to drool by the smell.

He then hurriedly went to the house, hoping to get a bite or two.

As he reach to front yard, the person inside came out with her apron on and her hair was tied. The lady was shock to see Aziel outside her house, and raised her defense thinking that Aziel might be an enemy.

However, she saw Aziel just standing at her front yard with his eyes lock on her, mesmerized.

Aziel was amazed by the beauty of the lady, and he could see that she lady was charismatic in the way she stood but she has a sweet face.

He just froze there, when his stomach growled again after smelling the sweet scent coming from inside the house.

The lady quickly dropped her guard after realizing that Aziel was just a hungry kid attracted by the smell of her cooking.

She smiled and invited Aziel inside, which he happily accepted.

"Do you live here alone? You must be lonely."

Aziel asked the lady who's setting up the table.

"No, not really. I'm living here happily. In here, I can do what I want, be what I want, and live the way I want. Nothing makes me happier than that."

Aziel could sense a bit of sadness in her voice, and he saw it in her eyes.

"Are you sad? I'm sad as well. You see, my friends won't play with me because they say I'm a weirdo."

Aziel made a grumpy expression that made the lady smile a bit.

"I will be your friend so you won't be lonely anymore. In exchange, I can visit you here every day, and eat all your food, hehe."

The lady burst out laughing that made her belly hurt.

"Alright, you can eat all the food you want when you're here."

"Yes!"

Aziel clench his fist as if getting the first prize.

When Aziel taste the first pastry served by the lady, he was flabbergasted by how delicious the pastry was.

He then indulged himself through all the pastries that was served to him.

Aziel was so full after he almost ate all the pastries that the lady baked.

The lady laughed after she saw that Aziel almost emptied the pastry container.

"Thank you for the greatest food I have ever eaten. I will surely be coming back here."

Aziel thanked the lady while rubbing his full belly.

After that day, Aziel starts to come to the house more often. And the lady would cook him food every time he comes to visit her.

However, one day, when Aziel was on his way to the house, he couldn't find it anymore. The route leading to the house end up in a different area.

He went on looking for the house, but he couldn't find it, which made him feel blue.

But as a kid, his attention gets easily distracted, and as time goes by, the memories of that place, that house, and that lady began to fade from Aziel's mind.

Few years passed, Aziel grew up to be a happy boy. He still likes to venture in the woods, where he discovers animals, insects, and many interesting things like the golden spear that he found lying beside a huge Oakwood tree in his ninth year.

The spear was so beautiful, and it shone when it was hit by sun's rays.

"What is this shining stick? It's so beautiful, and it looks study."

Aziel was about to pick the spear, but he find it heavy and he needs to use all his strength trying to lift the spear from the ground.

"You have a magical beauty, but you're as heavy as heck. And I don't think I could take you to the orphanage, the people there might think that I stole you or something. I will just hide you here, but don't worry I will visit you always. We'll train every day, and get stronger together. From now on, you will be called Magi. What do you think? Sounds great right, Magi?"

From then on, Aziel decided to train his body with Magi, until he could easily lift it without struggling.

Due to continuous training for many years, his young body became so strong, stronger than any of his peers. And, although he doesn't know how to wield Magi, he still continues to train with it.

One day, when he was swinging his magical looking stick in the woods, he heard a loud footstep coming from a few yards away from him.

Aziel dropped to the ground and hid himself to the bushes, and listen to where the footstep was coming from.

Through the small spaces between the bushes' leaves, Aziel saw an intimidating beast with its mouth drooling from hunger.

"What is that? It's my first time seeing something like this. It that what people from the orphanage called beasts? It's huge, it's like a bear but has two horns in its head and a menacing eyes. Its very presence it frightening. I don't think fighting it would be a good idea."

Aziel hid himself until the beast left the premises.

After that day, Aziel continued to train and began to hunt for weaker beasts.

He sets up traps throughout the woods that helped him in defeat every beast he saw, but he doesn't kill any of them. He lets them leave after he defeats them.

This became his new training regimen, including the training in wielding his weapon. Eventually, Aziel became proficient in both fighting against beast, and using his spear.

One day, after Aziel turned fourteen years old, he came across a saber-toothed beast with a single horn on its head.

The beast has a huge stature with large claws, sharped and long teeth, and standing three meters tall.

It was his second time seeing a horned beast.

"I think it's time to test where my fighting ability currently sets. And unlike the last time I saw a beast with horn, I'm a lot stronger now and you seem weaker than that guy."

The beast noticed Aziel's presence and immediately it launched itself towards him.

"You're launching an attack without any warnings? What a cheat!"

Aziel also launched himself towards the beast, swinging his magical looking stick.

With a swift clean hit, Aziel hit its head and took down the saber-toothed beast.

This achievement boost Aziel's confidence in fighting beasts.

However, something unexpected happened to him that made all the confidence in his body vanish.

It was when Aziel turned fifteen years old, the right age to get their blessings from the universe, and all of his friends received it. But for some reason, Aziel didn't get any power, as if he was being excluded.

This incident made Aziel's heart broken.

Running through the woods, Aziel cried his heart out due to the sadness that he couldn't handle. The area that usually made him very happy, feels different somehow. It wasn't giving him euphoria to be happy because of the great disappointment that he's feeling at the moment.

Due to his cries, Aziel attracted the bear that has two horns on its head.

The beast charged forward, opening its mouth and was about to devour its prey.

Aziel, whose feelings were broken at the moment saw the beast charging towards him.

Because of the brokenness and all his frustrations built up, Aziel couldn't hold himself and dashed towards the beast, swinging his spear with all his strength.

Aziel slain the double horned bear, a beast stronger than Saber-toothed beast by a lot and massively huge.

After killing the beast, Aziel's feelings wasn't lifted up. He began to fear the world, as the thought of going to the Academy crossed his mind.

Having no powers in a world of magic users is as scary as it gets. This reality could only mean suffering, or worst, death.

However, he steeled his resolve, using his frustrations as fuel, Aziel put his body into an even more hellish training before going into the Academy.
