Chapter 36 - Burn, DigiSoul, Burn!

"Ready… Begin!"

The moment Astamon's voice fell, two figures rushed toward each other in the ring.

But unlike Moss's previous fight with Yoshino, this time, their fists collided head-on—white and orange DigiSoul bursting forth on impact.

BOOM!

The shockwave of raw DigiSoul swept across the ring, sending dust flying.

"Now, that's more like it!"

Moss grinned and launched a left hook.

Marcus's fighting style was wild and unrefined—pure street brawling, no rules, no strategy.

But…

When it came to reaction speed, Moss had him completely outmatched.

THUD!

After just three rounds, Marcus was sent flying out of the ring.

When he got back up, the right side of his face was swollen.

Moss casually tossed a Healing Light his way, instantly restoring his strength and numbing the pain. At the same time, she murmured to herself, "Hmm… still at the Champion level."

"Champion level?" Yoshino blinked in confusion.

Thomas pondered aloud, "She must be talking about Marcus's DigiSoul."

Nope.

She was actually referring to Marcus himself.

"This ain't over yet!"

Marcus sprang back onto his feet with a kip-up, ready to climb back into the ring.

But Thomas blocked his way.

Marcus scowled. "What the hell, Thomas?!"

Thomas calmly pushed past him and vaulted into the ring.

It was his turn.

And just like Marcus, he didn't put on any protective gear.

After all, this wasn't about winning—it was about refining DigiSoul.

Marcus frowned but didn't protest further.

Moss turned to him and said, "Relax. You'll get another shot soon enough."

Marcus froze.

Thomas narrowed his eyes. "Angewomon, I won't go down so easily."

He wasn't just a genius.

He was also a world-class boxing champion—even if it was the junior division, a world champion was still a world champion.

When it came to technical skill, no one in DATS could compare to him.

As long as Angewomon didn't use Digimon techniques, he wasn't afraid.

"Master, you got this!" Gaomon shouted from the sidelines.

Thomas locked his gaze onto Moss, assuming a boxing stance.

"Ready… Begin!" Astamon announced.

Five rounds later—

Thomas was on his knees.

"YES!"

Goblimon, Mushroomon, and the others cheered enthusiastically.

"You did your best, Thomas."

Moss tossed him a Healing Light, restoring his strength before gesturing for him to step down.

Then, she turned to Yoshino.

"Yoshino, you're up."

"…Can Marcus go first?" Yoshino asked hesitantly.

Moss smiled. "Once I knock you down, it'll be his turn."

Translation: No.

Yoshino sighed but climbed into the ring.

This time, she didn't wear any protective gear.

Even though she still had a bit of a slacker mindset, she genuinely wanted to improve.

She lasted one round.

Then got knocked out of the ring.

Next up—Marcus.

And so the cycle continued, round after round—

"Too slow! You hit like a child—some 'Street Fighting King' you are!"

"World boxing champion? More like 'world-class punching bag'!"

"Burn, DigiSoul, burn!"

At first, Moss was able to defeat all three of them within a minute.

But as time went on, her stamina started to drop—

While their DigiSoul grew stronger, denser, and harder to fight against.

"Huff… huff…"

Moss was breathing heavily, drenched in sweat.

She had been throwing punches nonstop for three hours.

By now, the sky outside DATS HQ had turned completely dark.

And still—

She kept fighting.

No, at this point—

She was surviving.

Right now, standing across from her—

Marcus Damon.

Aside from his torn clothes, he was completely fine—because every time Moss knocked him down, she healed him back up.

His clothes, however, weren't so lucky.

Marcus looked at Moss's exhausted state and asked, "Angewomon, can't you just heal yourself?"

Moss smiled faintly. "If I did that… these past few hours would have been pointless. Now—come at me, Marcus."

Marcus clenched his fists.

"I don't know what you're trying to do… but if this is what you want—"

He swung his right fist.

His first punch—

No DigiSoul.

Moss countered with her own fist and blocked it effortlessly.

But the next second—

Marcus's entire fist erupted in roaring DigiSoul, burning like a raging inferno.

His DigiSoul had grown several times stronger in the past three hours.

Now, it was more than enough to help Agumon S evolve into Ultimate.

Thomas and Yoshino had also leveled up.

Faced with a Champion-level DigiSoul, Moss could absorb the impact without flinching.

But now—

Their DigiSoul had reached Ultimate-level.

She could no longer take it unscathed.

She was knocked back two steps.

"Perfect opportunity!"

Marcus's eyes sharpened, and he swung his left fist.

His punch, coated in burning DigiSoul, slammed into Moss's stomach.

"!!"

Moss staggered backward, colliding with the ring's ropes.

A warm liquid surged up her throat, filling her mouth before dripping from the corner of her lips.

She reached up to touch it.

Red.

…Blood?

Digimon… bleed?

Of course, Digimon bleed.

Just because they were made of data, many people assumed they didn't have blood.

But Digimon weren't just hollow programs—

They were living beings with a complete metabolic system.

(Well… except for certain types, like puppet-type or machine-type Digimon—their biology worked a bit differently.)

In Digimon Adventure, this was even shown on-screen.

For example, Orgemon, Leomon's eternal rival, had been shown bleeding and even suffering broken bones.

"…Heh."

Moss straightened her back and licked the blood from her lips.

Her red-stained mouth gave her an aura that was equal parts seductive and savage.

"Now the real fight begins."

Marcus grinned, blood pumping with adrenaline.

"Angewomon! I can feel your fighting spirit! BRING IT ON!"

The moment the words left his mouth—

They charged at each other again.

THUD!

No one in the audience was cheering anymore.

Or rather—

Thomas, Yoshino, Gaomon, Lalamon, Astamon, Goblimon, and the others were so entranced by the battle that they had forgotten to cheer.

They stared—eyes locked on the ring, not wanting to miss a second.

One fighter was on the verge of collapse but refused to fall.

The other was giving his all to match that indomitable spirit.

FIGHT.

FIGHT.

FIGHT.

A pure, gritty battle—raw, primal, relentless.

Buzz—!

"I feel it."

Through the pain and exhaustion, Moss's mind emptied.

She could sense it—

A limit.

A shackle.

SCREW THAT!

BREAK THROUGH!

Burn, DigiSoul!

Like a dragon shattering its chains, like a tiger escaping its cage—

In that moment—

She felt something unlock.

On her system panel, a new option appeared—

[Ultimate Evolution].
