When Hye Jin's Father, Park ji won, didn't return home for the second night, Min jae and her Mother Eun bi , went to a police station to report him missing, Eun bi started to cry, but Min jae tried to comfort her, saying, "Don't cry, Mom." They explained the situation to Officer Lee Hyun soo who assured them he'd start looking for park ji won, taking a photo of him for reference. Then another officer from the side desk says "In the morning A family also reported the same case.. Both the wife and daughter, filled with worry...". Officer Hyun soo nodded...After sending them home, the police began their investigation.
Soon after the identities of both bodies found at the construction site were confirmed : one was Park ji won he is married to Eun Bi and had two children Min jae and Hye jin and the other was a man named choi Sang Ho, (Hye jin's first victim) . Choi Sang Ho was married to a woman named Ji Ah and had a young daughter Choi Yeon Woo.
The Next morning, Officer Lee Hyun soo called both the families to the station to formally identify the bodies. They arrived already tense with dread, and they saw the bodies, grief overwhelmed them..
Eun bi cried uncontrollably, collapsing into Min jae's arms. Nearby, Ji Ah gripped her daughter's Yeon Woo hand tightly, trembling as they stared at Sang Ho's body in shock and disbelief. The officer approached them gently, asking if they could remember any details of where their loved ones had gone, who they'd been with, or if they had noticed anything unusual in the past days. The families shared what little they could, and then a forensic officer stepped in with preliminary findings.
"It looks like this might be the work of a psychopath," the forensic expert said, describing the eerie precision and disturbing marks left on the bodies. Hearing this, both families gasped, barely able to comprehend that their loved ones had been victims of such a twisted mind. "We'll need time to process the legal documentation," Officer Lee added. "After that, we can release the bodies to you." The families left, numb with grief and clutching each other for support.
Once home, Eun Bi's sorrow poured out again. Minjae tried to console her, but he was haunted by another thought. Later, he took Hyejin aside, pulling her into his room.
"I saw you that night, coming home late," he said, voice wavering. "You and Father went out together, didn't you?"
Hyejin's eyes narrowed. "Did you actually see us leave together?" she replied coldly. "No, you didn't."
"But you came back late," he insisted, grabbing her arm. Hyejin's expression darkened.
"Let go of me. I don't like people touching me," she said, her voice like ice. But Minjae didn't back down.
"Just tell me, Hyejin. I need to know," he said, his voice almost pleading.
With her patience thinning, Hyejin's eyes flashed dangerously. She twisted his arm, pulling his hand close to her neck as if challenging him, and then, slowly, reached into her pocket for the blade she always carried. Just then, Eun Bi burst in, stopping them. "What are you two doing? Are you fighting again?" she asked, worry etched on her face.
"No, Mom," Minjae replied quickly. "Let's go. I need you to make something to eat." Hyejin reluctantly let go of Minjae, hiding her frustration.
Later, as they ate, Hyejin's mind simmered. Should I kill Minjae? she wondered. But she knew the timing wasn't right. She whispered to herself, Not yet. I have a plan.
After dinner, Hyejin took Minjae to the terrace. "Do you really doubt me?" she asked, her voice softened. "I'm your sister, and our father's daughter. How could you think I'd do something so terrible?"
Minjae's face softened, but he still looked unsure. "You went out that night… I just want to understand."
Hyejin sighed and pulled out her phone. She called her friend, Kim Young. "Hey, could you send me those notes and selfies from last Saturday? When I was at your house?"
Kim Young replied eagerly, "Of course! That was such a fun night. You left late, didn't you? What did your parents say?"
After the call ended, Hyejin showed Minjae the proof. "See? I was with her. How could you think I'd be involved?"
Minjae looked away, ashamed. "I'm sorry, Hyejin. I'm just… I'm so lost right now."
Hyejin placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "It's okay. Like Dad wanted, I'll become a doctor to fulfill his last wish." She forced a smile, playing the role of the dutiful daughter perfectly.
The next day, the family held a funeral for Park Ji Won, while Hyejin's first victim's family held their own. As the mourners drifted away, Hyejin slipped over to the other funeral, watching from a distance. She spotted the victim's daughter, who knelt by the grave, weeping.
"No matter what, Dad," the girl sobbed, "I'll find the truth. I'll make sure whoever did this to you pays. I'll become a police officer and catch them myself."
Hyejin's lips curled into a dark smile as she watched, savoring the daughter's pain. So much determination, she thought. She approached the girl, wiping a pretend tear from her own face.
"I'm so sorry. I'm the daughter of another victim," she said, her voice laced with fake sympathy. "I, too, want to catch the person who did this."
The girl looked at her, eyes red from crying. "Let's do it together, then. Let's become police officers and find the killer."
Hye Jin shook her head, a hint of mockery in her tone. "My father wanted me to be a painter, not an officer." She spoke as if she were paying homage to her father's wishes, but inside, she reveled in the irony. With that, they parted ways, each vowing justice—though only one was the true perpetrator.
