Chapter 4 - Humming Terror

Anna wanted to scream out and yell at them for being idiots and tell them to get inside or somewhere safe. She didn't know what to do. It was hard enough for her to attempt to run away from those creatures in the sky. As many vehicles littered the roads, many were still not paying attention and were trying to restart their vehicles. Some even attempted to use their cellular devices to see what was happening, but no power shone on anything using modern technology.

Anna didn't stop, though. All she did was keep moving till she finally arrived at her apartment. She stood before the automatic doors as fear filled her heart. Nothing is working. The doors didn't respond to her presence. So she pried her fingers between the doors, using as much force as she could to pull open the doors to let her in.

She wanted to yell out in pain and victory because she made it inside, but all that embraced her heart was more fear as she rushed to her apartment on the second floor—walking up the stairs with struggling steps.

"I got this. I just need to go inside and find something to protect myself." (Anna)

Her voice was wavering and weak as she didn't believe she could protect herself from whatever hoard of creatures was spreading across the land. What in the world did that tower release on us? Why is this happening to us? I don't want to die. Those thoughts overpowered her mind as she fumbled with her keys, glad she didn't want to use an electronic lock on her apartment. Opening her door, she stepped inside and locked it behind herself.

Anna slid her back along the door, curling her knees into her chest as sobs surged from her throat. What could she do? What can anyone do? Anna closed her eyes, but just as she started to calm down, she heard screams. Forcing herself up, she stumbled over to her window, pulling it to the side. She looked through a tiny crack to watch what was happening outside.

A creature as tall as a single-story house stood in its form, a mixture of humanoid and insectoid. Its eyes were like a wasp as a long spear-like stinger hung down to the midsection of its body from where its nose should be. Its jaws were hinged open in a drooling snarl split into three sections similar to the monsters in the older show Stranger Things. Its arms were practically dragging on the ground as it stood, talons scraping across the ground and cutting into the cement of the road like it was only a fine layer of sand. Its hind mody was sectional, similar to that of an ant. Even though its upper body stood straight, its hind body had wings folded into itself, fluttering as if ready to fly off at any moment. While the limbs were stabbed into the cement, they came to points like knives.

People stood in horror as the creature let out a horrible scream. Anna panicked quickly, letting the curtain fall closed as she stepped away from the window.

"What the hell was that?" (Anna)

Anna stepped further back, running to her room or moving as fast as she could. As soon as she could, she locked her bedroom door and hid under her bed, curling into herself. This time,e she could hear the screams of people as horrible crunching filled the air outside. Anna covered her ears as she bit her lips.

Hearing a humming sound that rattled her apartment, Anna Looked outside the window, peeling up the curtain to see that vehicles were stabbed through and corpses were strewn on the ground underneath the giant creature. Its wings were unfolded and looked like a caleidoscope of stained glass. Seconds in a matter of seconds, many were dead and running. The creature took off into the air, holding people in its taloned hands as a crunching sound came from its mouth. When it was out of sight, Anna fell to the ground, and her hands shook.

"What kind of monster was that?" (Anna)
